Unironically that's how a lot of meetings are in china, I once went for work and once the "formal" meeting was done (which was like 15 minutes of pretty much nothing on an office) we were invited to this place with like 20 girls in bikinis, 2 per person sitting next to you or even on the laps of some of these chinese men, unlimited drinks and food (amazing food btw) and these super serious chinese men got drunk af and started actually discussing about the bussiness like that; seemed like they cared more about how you were socially than anything else. I've heard very similar stories from other friends that have done bussiness in china.
I worked at MSI in Europe. We got an ad in from HQ where a girl in bikini like clothes holding a mainboard would be pictured with the text "Buy me! And get a free me!". You would get a free graphics card. You have no idea how hard EU HQ fought to not have to use the campaign. Imagine all the ads that didn't make it when you see these!
Seriously, what has MSI's marketing department been thinking??? They are so lucky they didn't go through with that campaign, I can't imagine the horrible campaigns they've almost had over the years.

3:34 The Godaddy commercial was a Superbowl commercial in around 2015 where they were making fun of all of the beer commercials with sentimental dogs coming home which became a trope at the time. Honestly thought it was great when I saw it, and it definitely holds up if given context.

There's been enough to do an entire series. Maybe not ones quite as awful and tasteless as some of these but I've seen so many bad tech commercials over the years, especially from the Nintendo/Sega and IBM/Apple rivalries in the 90s. Though finding them archived somewhere might not be possible.
Ellen Feiss has a Ph.D from UC Berkely in modern art now. So seems like her career is pretty solid. She's working at Ohio State University which is a sweet gig for anyone.
Also people forget why that Ad was controversial, its because she looks stoned. And fun fact she was on drugs, Benedryl that is, her eyes are red because of allergies and she was tired because it was 10pm on a school night and her ad was the last to be shot of the batch they did that day.

And yes, they are a giant, exploitive scam along the lines of payday loans but with more steps.

She was apparently 15 at the time and friends with the son of the ad's director (the son features in a separate ad). There's been enough to do an entire series. Maybe not ones quite as awful and tasteless as some of these but I've seen so many bad tech commercials over the years, especially from the Nintendo/Sega and IBM/Apple rivalries in the 90s. Though finding them archived somewhere might not be possible.
The Sony PSP white edition ad is still the most outrageously racist thing put out by a billion dollar company I've ever seen

That said, I’m surprised you didn’t cover the infamous Wii U era of Nintendo advertising despite covering them with 3 of the bad ads. That shit was cursed.
She's definitely best in off-the-cuff or loosely structured videos. I haven't personally cared for the few scripted videos she did, but the way she interacts with the team and Linus is always entertaining.

The "Do you really want a clone" commercial was produced for MDG, a computer (and general tech financing company). And yes, they are a giant, exploitive scam along the lines of payday loans but with more steps.
I remember that commercial and the online infamy she had. Most people thinking she was stoned or high on something.

@@Gatorade69 She gave her real name. A quick Google search shows an interview with Brown University's College newspaper explaining the whole thing. She was apparently 15 at the time and friends with the son of the ad's director (the son features in a separate ad).
Because 2022 was the 20-year anniversary of the ad, there were also a bunch of retrospectives last year catching up with her that appeared in publications like WIRED and Cult of Mac.
