My parents used to play league bowling at a fairly competitive level with 5 kids about 15 years ago, when they were in enough shape. Even if you're not great, it can be fun just to bowl with friends and meet new people. Also, it isn't all that expensive, even if you decide to get your own gear. Especially compared to golf. Tennis and other racquet sports are also pretty fun. I do both.
