  • This film launches the Ghia as the new high-end addition to the Ford Granada range. The Ghia offered such luxuries as body contoured seats, "real Belgian walnut" trim and an electronic digital clock. The slogan "Ford Granada, the feel of total engineering", sets the tone for this range.

    • @jourwalis-8875
      @jourwalis-8875 5 лет назад +3

      Sorry, mate, but you´ve got it all wrong. I don´t think you know what you are talking about. You could not have been driving a DS, much less owned one. Otherwise you would have known better. The Citroen DS is a very reliable car. I have been driving these since 1972 and I bought my 1974 DS 23 IE Pallas in 1988 (31 years ago!) and still drive it on a regular basis. I have had very few problems, and it does not cost more to maintain and repair that conventional cars. On the contrary. It´s a really heavy duty construction. And the hydraulic system is very reliable and the best thing with the whole car. The suspension spheres last much longer than conventional units, and when the nitrogen-gas pressure becomes low, you just fill them up, and they are like new agian!
      And a chockabsorber on a DS is just a small valve in the bottom of the sphere, that never needs replacement! Not to mention the constant ride height, irrepsective of the load, and the superior comfort that the system gives.
      So, no, I will never come to a point where I will trade my DS 23 IE Pallas for a Ford Granada!
      Or, as we say in Swedish: "Aldrig en Ford på våran gård!"

    The Granada of my childhood...my family never had one but these were quite a common sight on UK roads in the 1970s. Big, graceful cars, the Ghias epitomized simple luxury, although there was a lack of convenience features that we take for granted today such as power windows and locks. It would take until the Mk2s or Mk3s to get that on the upmarket Granadas.

      Consul was not a specific body style. In the beginning all the entry level models were called Consul and more upmarket ones were called Granada. This was due to a naming dispute with Granada television. Ford won the case and all models were later named as Granada.

I had no license at the time. It was my own little daily dream of European Americana (almost), made more visceral at one point by the blowing exhaust.
    In truth it was a dreadful, wallowing old tank of a thing, assembled by men on blindfolds and foundry gloves.... But at 17 it was Popeye Doyle keeping up with a train in city traffic.... Aaah.... The Mk1 Granada. Teen bliss in an otherwise dull world.

Now you get seats trimmed in a mix of the cheapest leather and/or pleather unless you option a 5k upgrade, loads of electronic gimmicks you don't actually need packaged into a nasty soulless car with windows practically at shoulder height. beautiful to look at and great to drive but........ build quality, rust and rot, which is why they're rare as hens teeth today. And we did get excited over a digital clock in those days as unfortunately cars were what you call basic, Powered seats, air con, electric windows and central locking were things to dream of , they were not even offered as extras - didn't exist on most cards even top of the range. If they had it would probably have doubled the cost.

      This car offered air-conditioning as an option which boosted comfort and wellbeing in summer and made travelling more bearable.

    • @anthonyperkins7556
      @anthonyperkins7556 5 лет назад

      @pmailkeey But Ford Granada cars of that era didn't get a sunroof, so air conditioning was the only true way to a comfortable method of travel in a 70's Granada Ghia, in summer when you had hot sun beating down on a car, the heating and ventilation system would suck in hot air thru the fresh air vents of the dash whereas with air con fitted the interior would get cooler faster.

      @Edgar Grefve Naming a car can be an expensive business, what with the research and securing a copyright, what multinationals like Ford and GM do is collect these names in their songbooks, legally maintaining their exclusive use. So if due to changing world circumstances they have to rush a car to market to exploit this, they can quickly slap a name on it that they might have used decades ago ..or somewhere else.

      Their car in early episodes was a Consul GT. Quite the meatiest of the range at the time. But at the same time, a car that didn't know what it was meant to be.
      Years later (and before I could drive legally) my boss had a 2.5 automatic and would throw me the keys when he arrived, so I could take it to the multi-storey. Beat part of the afternoon was being asked to fetch it for him at the end of the day.... At 17, a V6 Granada felt really quite a potent machine, even with a slushbox.
