Same. As soon as the episode didn't end with them announcing Tyrion's victory, I knew Oberyn was gonna die. I started reading the books during season 5, so I had no idea that Oberyn would die
That scene was all sorts of fucked up. Just nasty. When his teeth were literally punched out of his head I just sat there staring at the TV in disgust when I first saw the episode.
You know that feeling when the good guy is a perilous situation, and instead of killing him, the bad guy just starts to monologue, and that allows the good guy to win/escape? Well now we know both sides of the feeling.
+TheCheezFace I like the guy next to him in the grey shirt. His blank, cold-sweat stare just tells me he's fucking dying inside while those fat thumbs slowly descend into Oberyn's skull. Look at that serious face. He's buttclenching hard as fuck.
I wouldn't too, but for the opposite reason. Can't stand loud people while watching a movie, I would be standing there annoyed and wanting the Mountain to smash every one of those screeching banshees and soyboy squealers' heads.
Jack Lewis fr lol I was low-key scarred...watched it on laptop in room with the lights off...after the credits rolled and music was playing I was just sitting there shocked in the darkness processing what happened...first time I finished the credits

Harvstermysterinator I know pretty much whats gonna happen cause I've read the books, it will be visceral, surprising and emotional. And the finale, if they're doing something with this one particular subplot, will be the most shocking cliffhanger of the series thus far.
The dude in the white shirt with the beard knew what was coming the entire time. Sitting quietly watching, and even when Oberyn stabs and floors Gregor, when the camera pans to him he's simply taking a sip of his beer, steeling himself for what's to come. The face of a man that knows sorrow.
I have no idea how there wasn't dead silence in that bar for at least a few seconds. Easily one of the most boneshaking things to happen in the entire history of the show.
I don't get it, am I honestly the only one who was deeply destroyed by the meaning and circumstance of his death, rather than the gore and brutality of it and simple "favorable character killed off" thing? I mean he exhibited such confidence, such a noble motive for this fight, such dominance... and then in just 15 seconds you can see him completely turned around, crushed, screaming and flailing his arms around helplessly trying to stop the huge guy's fingers from digging deeper into his skull... No speaking on his part, just his screams, his helplessness, his desperation; these just killed me. Had absolutely no mood for 2-3 days after that damned episode. This was borderline Red Wedding shock...
he was full of life and fighting for justice he wants to avenge his sisters brutal death and the result is pain, scream and brain's smashing this is just so wrong sooooo wrong
TheGuider I get where you're coming from, but Oberyn was way too confident and when the Mountain got hurt he let his guard down. He basically died because he was driven too much by emotion and that clouded his judgement. As appauled as I was it was a damn good scene! It left you craving more just like the red wedding!
The thing is Oberyn's confidence is what killed him. Sometimes your greatest asset can be your biggest weakness. He was too confident in his pride to let the Mountain die right away.
Although I'm in a different country, and nothing like this happens over here. Thank you for offering people the chance to share Game of Thrones together as a group.
Christine Deliz To be fair, it might depend on the country. In the UK at least, pubs and clubs need a licence to show any type of TV show, just like music, they need a licence for music.
Red shirt in the front row had the smug look of a book snob who knew what was coming...until he freaked out. Meanwhile, Serj Tankian in the white shirt found the whole thing rather depressing.
Sean L That guy's reaction was exactly mine. I was shaking my head in disbelief and the instant I realized his would explode I just closed my eyes and turned away as my stomach dropped.

georgi stoilov? Maybe English isn't your first language. My initial comment was referring to the fact that if you've read the book you already knew the outcome of the scene, hence not being shocked which most of these people obviously are.

Yeah I can see that, especially after the red wedding being so tame I was a little surprised, more so by the way he screamed in agony because that was definitely a liberty they took from the book.

People at work would always watch the episode later, and some of them would often ask me questions in anticipation. One morning on Monday I came to work with pale face and didn't want to talk to anyone about the episode or anything else. They knew that the episode is about "Trial by Combat" and I like Oberyn's character but they were not sure why I was so disappointed. They found out later that day though.

The most intense scene in the whole series, and my second favorite after the explosion of the Baelor Sept. Pedro Pascal is jus to good, passing from being a laughing bully to a raging death bringer, before his own fall.
When I watched this episode I stared at the credits for a good 60 seconds, completely shocked. Then I let out a big "What the fuck!?" Seriously this script, holy shit, amazing. I love how they get me by surprise.
I know I’m a few years late to the party but I just wanted to thank you for all of the amazing videos. I have been binging on these videos almost daily for months. I absolutely adore them. I live out in Colorado and I would do anything to watch with your viewers. I would have the time of my life. I am half tempted to book a flight to Chicago just to come to your bar I’m not even kidding. Surrounded by a diehard Game of Thrones fans such as myself. It is the most beautiful thing ever written and nothing will ever compare. It is a piece of my life forever. Thank you for all of these videos!
Who would wanna watch a series in a crowded bar? All bodily noises, sniffing, coughing, stupid screaming reactions and probably whispering or someones "funny" remarks would ruin it for me. I watch my episodes alone in my room with surround sound so no fucker would interrupt me.
When I was in university a very long time ago, we had Deep Space Nine nights. It was fun watching with a bunch of fans on a big screen with a very, VERY good sound system (a pub's).
Scenes like these are why I want to watch with people, not a lot of GOT watchers or fans where I come from, the only downside is one fucker read the books and ruin it for them, other than that it'd be fun to participate especially if it was a shocking episode like this.
AAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH MY GGGOOODDD!!! That was AWESOME!!! Joy, exhilaration, and misery all rolled into one perfect scene of misleading triumph and brutal carnage. This is bittersweet because now the red viper is gone, but I know that only means more room for the next favorite new character, or characters to come into play. I can already hear myself cursing George R.R. Martin when they inevitably get killed off in a gruesome death too.
You are doing the work of the Old Gods and the New! I wish I could visit this wonderful bar when the last two episodes air :( Keep up the good work and reactions vids!
Man these are always the best reaction videos! If you're able to, you should try and get reactions for the last 2 episodes as well, both will be crazy and fantastic. If not, no worries, we all got out jobs to do, thanks for the great vids you've already gotten!
Oberyn Martell is that character I like because he talks a load of shit and backs it up with his skill, but in Ice and Fire that only gets you so far until you get your skull caved in by a genetic freak like Gregor. That and Pedro Pascal portayed him fucking beautifully.
I saw that shit coming a kilometre away, once he started taking shit after he stabbed the mountain in the chest. One of the #1 rules of survival in a battle is always double/triple tap the enemy.
As a book reader it gives me a great deal of pleasure in seeing the anguish on the show watcher's faces at key pivital moments such as this one...yesssss.
Why do so many people think he was showboating? I'd be huge for him if the Mountain would publicly admit that Tywin gave the order, because it would undermine the Lannisters in the eyes of other houses. And with the kingdom still recuperating from the war, Oberyn could probably gain allies to try and overthrow the king.
It wouldn't matter. Everyone already knew that Tywin gave the order, and that he had done things like that in the past. You know the song "Rains of Castamere"? That's about how Tywin murdered an ENTIRE FAMILY (including children, women, and extended family) just because the Lord of Castamere tried to rebel against the Lannisters. And the Mountain had been going around slaughtering people since before the books even started. Nobody really cared. And Oberyn's mistake wasn't exactly showboating, but it was stupid of him to stand so close to the Mountain. The much smarter thing to do would have been to stand back and stab him with the spear until he confessed. Instead, he wanted to get up close and personal. That's what people mean when they say he was "showboating".
You have a point with the Reynes yeah, but other houses must have hated the Lannisters that much more because of that. But I presume they were too powerful for anyone to do anything about it. Now at the time of war they were far more vulnerable and Oberyn's plan for revenge probably wasn't just go and try to kill every single one of the Lannisters. The duel was a nice opportunity to start with one of the pawns. And I agree it was stupid of him to stand so close, I think I'd prefer for him to lose in a battle straight up. That whole Mountain is basically done then he reverses positions is kind of a reverse cliche by which we usually see the good guys win. So it was a bit surprising that GRRM took that route.
***** Yop I think you are absolutely correct, and like I said previously I was surprised that GRRM took that route. If Oberyn would simply lose a close fight, that wouldn't be as dramatic obviously, but it would be better as far as I'm concerned.
Well tbh Oberyn lost in the books the same stupid way he did in the series. But the Mountain looked kinda ridiculous in this fight I agree. I was expecting a bit longer fight where Mountain would look fresh in the beginning but then he would start fading, because of his size he obviously can't keep fighting for a long time. And he gets pissed off in the books which also leads to mistakes. At least he broke Oberyn's spear in one instance :D I've listened to the audio version of the fight from the books since it was accessible quicker and man that would be hard to put on film in it's entirety.
That’s the way to do it. When the viewers predict what’s going to happen, make it so very shocking and sudden when it happens. So much so that it’s like they didn’t even predict it at all.
Amazing!!! Oberyn's death was one of the most brutal and saddest deaths on the show..i almost couldn't sleep on that night..i remember everyone freaking out..his character was awesome!!!
I've never been so nervous about a movie scene in my life like this. I was legit shaking the entire fight scene, only Game of Thrones can do that to a man
god i remember this scene from 7 years back when i first started GoT. i was cheering for viper like everybody else. and after everything that happens, the credits start to roll and I'm just sitting in my chair and staring the wall for fucking minutes with my mouth agape.
You know, I really think afterwards you should go around asking for reactions, individually, just 1 or 2. Just a suggestion. Either way, I love this videos.
I enjoy watching this show at a friend's house, but man, watching with you guys looks really fun, too. I hope you all enjoy the next season. I love watching people really enjoy the show, thanks for putting these up.
One of my favourite ever reaction videos. Funny when you pause at 3:22 and the dark haired guy with a moustache on the left has exactly the same facial expression as Tyrion 😅😅
I haven't read the books, but the moment Oberyn started monologuing I just thought "no, nooo, noooooooooooooooo!".
Well, its like the villains who elaborate their plans to the heroes, instead of killing them immediatly.. You know it wont end good for them..
The Mountain did really catch him monologuing
Exactly such my reacrtion
You know that feeling when the good guy is a perilous situation, and instead of killing him, the bad guy just starts to monologue, and that allows the good guy to win/escape?
Well now we know both sides of the feeling.

The Mountain is a good boi
You're right, actually, it is a reverse of a very typical situation Very sad reverse, but it is
Both of them were bad guys. So it didn't matter.
It's so easy to spot the book readers there by just seeing the resignation in their faces while everyone cheers the Viper.
The one girl as she leaned into the other girl. You could tell she knew it was coming.
Lol.
I haven't read them and only started watching this year, almost caught up.

I watch my episodes alone in my room with surround sound so no fucker would interrupt me.
i assume you spend quite a lot of your time alone in your room
James Saunder ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
When I was in university a very long time ago, we had Deep Space Nine nights. It was fun watching with a bunch of fans on a big screen with a very, VERY good sound system (a pub's).
You seem like a very fun person...
Oberyn’s eyes being gouged out and his skull being crushed is what it was like for the audience watching the final season of Game of Thrones 😞.
That woman's shocking act was so good when oberyn died
Oberyn felt like virat kohli against Pakistan bowling attack, too brilliant to realise he just missed one hell of his chance
Yeah I remember the Pakistani bowler crushing kohli's head off after Kohli did 6. Everyone was shocked
You are doing the work of the Old Gods and the New! I wish I could visit this wonderful bar when the last two episodes air :(
Keep up the good work and reactions vids!
Thank you! That means alot!
Have a family member who wants to rush to Chicago to be in this bar for the finale.
Man these are always the best reaction videos! If you're able to, you should try and get reactions for the last 2 episodes as well, both will be crazy and fantastic. If not, no worries, we all got out jobs to do, thanks for the great vids you've already gotten!
Oh hell yeah! I'm on it son!
Shit now I'm stoked more for these reactions then the actual episodes.
***** Tread lightly with those spoilers Captain! ;) I'm a reader, so I'm on it.
Oberyn Martell is that character I like because he talks a load of shit and backs it up with his skill, but in Ice and Fire that only gets you so far until you get your skull caved in by a genetic freak like Gregor. That and Pedro Pascal portayed him fucking beautifully.
“size does not matter when you’re lying flat on your back”
I saw that shit coming a kilometre away, once he started taking shit after he stabbed the mountain in the chest. One of the #1 rules of survival in a battle is always double/triple tap the enemy.
using game of thrones to induce alcoholism is a really smart business strategy, littlefinger would be proud
As would Cersei!
Lenneth Valkyrie disagree about cersei, she's not as smart as she'd like to believe
At least he broke Oberyn's spear in one instance :D
I've listened to the audio version of the fight from the books since it was accessible quicker and man that would be hard to put on film in it's entirety.
I had rewatch this like 10 times. I never felt a perfect mix terror, digust, and sadness at the same time.
When Oberyn died i felt something inside me just vanished.
dammit Oberyn you should have just finished him off.. You almost had him! -.-
As Tuco says in the good the bad and the ugly…”when you want to kill somebody, kill him. Don’t talk”
Cant believe it’s been 9 years
Alright Ya'll Here's some killer reactions to a killer episode! Battle of Castle Black / Jon Snow & Ygritte Reactions at Burlington Bar

On it's way... been cray busy since Sunday!
+Perkyguy www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=Cray
Please! Tell me you guys will be doing these again for season 5!
uh huh
Really? ?? Awesome!
Sean L Why none? :(
Sean L when? it's nearly over
Patience
I've never been so nervous about a movie scene in my life like this. I was legit shaking the entire fight scene, only Game of Thrones can do that to a man
god i remember this scene from 7 years back when i first started GoT. i was cheering for viper like everybody else. and after everything that happens, the credits start to roll and I'm just sitting in my chair and staring the wall for fucking minutes with my mouth agape.
Recommended this 6 years later. 6 years. 6 fucking years it's been since this. Jesus.
and now it´s 10
I always forget how 2015 was a nice time, no covid no trump, GoT was on.
Despite seeing that scene twice before, by jaw still dropped and I was cringing so hard when things went bad. Damn this show is good!
You know, I really think afterwards you should go around asking for reactions, individually, just 1 or 2. Just a suggestion. Either way, I love this videos.
Neto. That has crossed my mind. I'll look into it.
Sean L I agree with Neto, it sounds interesting :).
So that's where Mando learned to fight with a spear
You can tell that some of the people in the audience knew what was going to happen. They're the ones without the excited looks on their faces.
i love everyones cheers at 1:53, muahahaha! >:-3
Yeah, and the people who aren't, read the books.
or just didn't applaude..
The guy in grey shirt looks depressed as well, it seems like he's trying to hide it by taking a sip in 3:07. 😅
GoT drinking game: drink until it doesn't hurt you anymore.
I love how after the first few seasons people were still dumb enough to think that the hero character wouldn't be killed for shock value.
People were expecting it to be written well lol (as it was here)
What a way to treat Mando. Baby Yoda is sooooo getting his revenge on this giant prick.
I love how everyone cheers when Oberyn "kills" the Mountain. I haven't even watched the rest of the video, but can picture their horror.
Its so funny already knowing how it all goes down
Man was soooo determined to have him say her name that he forgot to do the most important thing: kill him. Pissed me off more than surprised me.
Bruh
I guess everyone at that bar has something in common with Cersei: They all know what it's like to have their joy turn to ashes in their mouths. :D
Those faces when Oberyn was winning, then the tragedy happened. XD
i love the part where he stabs the mountain and everyone goes yay we won...but then goerge rr martin happens XD
Maaan oberyn pointing at tywin while yelling who gave you the order still gives me chills
The best bit about this? Even in a crowded bar full of shocked people, utter silence falls when Tywin Lannister gets to his feet. EPIC.
