    TY for the video! I just about want to cry when I accidentally snap a vine that I later find has fruit on the end. 😖 Learning experiences in the garden. hehe
    I'm excited to have some gourds set on my two plants this year, but they're having a problem where the tendrils are browning all of a sudden. The rest of the plant appears ok, if not slightly stunted in growth. The tendrils closest to the base of the plant have been affected first. The problem has not reached the tip of the plant yet. Those tendrils are still green and reaching.
    That's how I came across your vid. I was trying to figure out what the problem might be. I have treated them with Neem oil soil soak mixture for any fungal infections. I have a meter to check the parameters of the soil, and have been checking them a few times a day, but still scratching my head.
    I've enjoyed hand-pollinating these plants, and hope they are hearty bc I am not finding the info I am trying to thus far.

    🎃 Good tips here. I knew how to recognise M/F flowers and how to hand pollinate them, but I had been nuzzling my make flower in the female parts, IYKWIM 😉, rather than flicking the pollen in. Must try and remember that pro-tip for next year.

    How are your flowers open during the day?
    Also I've all male flowers. I just happened to get a plant because it was a hitchhiker with a plant I bought. I'm so glad it did but would like it to set fruit and get a gourd😅 I'm dying to see what type it is

    Hi do you need to hand pollinate each female flower? Or once we get fruit setting on the plant we don't need to hand pollinate further? Thanks

    Thank you for sharing this very useful video. My bottle gourd plants are going crazy and I have 15 set gourds on one of the vines! Some have 6 to 8. Should I leave all of the fruits to develop or should I remove some. They’re in different sizes and stages of development . What is the maximum number I can leave on a large plant? Thank you so much.

      If they're at different stages let them keep growing and pick as each one matures. Don't forget to keep feeding the plants

    My plant which is very healthy as mentioned in my previous message to you, has no female flowers at all. I had a few around July but non survived even though I hand pollinated. I usually get around 10 - 12 bottle gourds every year but this year it looks like there's not going to be any! Whenever there is 1 or 2 female flowers, they turn yellow and die before the flower opens. I've never had this problem before and I'm very confused

      Check your Watering, weather it's over or underwaterd
      Give it a higher potassium feed to encourage blossoms

    Hi does this also apply to squashes? Growing something called honeyboat which is wrapping round beans as well so is it strangling them?
    Also trying to grow butternut and patty pan which aren't setting so will try abd pollinate them.
    Also my friends given me something called bitter gourd or Kerala? Any special treatment required?

    • @MyFamilyGarden
      @MyFamilyGarden  2 года назад +1

      Hi Catherine, yes it applies to all squashes.
      Kerala likes a hot humid environment so ideally inside a greenhouse

      @@MyFamilyGarden thanks for that. Kerala moved to greenhouse. Friend called it very ugly which I felt a little harsh but it's isn't the prettiest thing I've seen

    Hi Motin; I recently found out that pumpkin leaves are edible after trimming off spines and ribs. Being from the same Cucurbit family, are gourd leaves edible too? Do they taste good and is there prep to do? Thanks for all the great videos!

    • @shunaari
      @shunaari 2 года назад

      Yes you can eat them. We eat them all the time. Prep is just Like pumpkin leaves.

    • @MyFamilyGarden
      @MyFamilyGarden  2 года назад

      Absolutely they are, they're less spiky than pumpkin leaves but remove the strings in the same way, and pick the younger tips and leaves
