You really don't have to justify how long it's taking you to build this. The hiking community says to "Hike your own hike." I say here, "Do your own build." It takes you what it takes you, thanks for bringing us along for the ride. I'm inspired and and gearing up to start my own build here shortly. Thanks.
Paul Brooks thanks for saying that paul- it’s more a matter of personal disappointment and not achieving my own goal. You are right though, I need to enjoy the process along the way!
Paul Brooks great video!!! Don’t worry about time I can’t remember when I started but it is at least five years later and uncountable cancer treatments later until I feel able to get at mine again. To rephrase John Denver’s song, “I work when I can and ‘treat’ when I should...”. Thanks again for the video!!
Chronic Woodwork i stared my canoe build 18 months ago, got it 100% ready to fiberglass and got to nervous so I put it off for about 8 months, but now my nerves have settled and I'm going to fiberglass next weekend. For my New Years resolution, i am determined to finish my canoe. I know life is always busy but I really want to see you finish your canoe too!
Best series of videos ever! I got to episode 10 (the "last" in the series so far...) and then your story got real. Real life. I came to the comments to learn what might have happened and I'm glad to read that it is just life that slowed your build. Congrats on the transition, job(s), and most of all your FAMILY! Take care and take your time.
The closure of this video has inspired me to build a miniature canoe, just to blunder my way through all the techniques before trying out a real build. All of your tips have been super helpful!
Outstanding videos! Thanks for the effort putting these together. And including the emotional overviews was also helpful. Best wishes with the family and the build. Looking forward to seeing you and your family enjoy the boat as it floats ion the water.
@@chronicwoodwork5466 That was a good series of videos. Looking forward to seeing the rest of them as you complete the project. Going to be doing the same in about a month and your videos were a great help.
Nicholas Wittkamp thanks Nicholas. I figured it was best to just be honest with folks. No point in pretending that everything is perfect like some folks do on social media. Good luck to you! It’s a fun journey
Very good detail in your videos. Your dos and the don'ts should help many first time builders attempting this project. I suspect that I'll take just as long with many big breaks in between... life gets in the way of many projects but that's not a bad thing. I look forward to the rest of the series... in a month, a year or whenever you find the time.
Great videos! Very well filmed and articulated. Thanks a lot for sharing your work. I'm about to start my first canoe so I'll probably refer back to your vids a lot. Keep up the good work! Bless
Chronic Woodwork thanks very much. That's very decent of you. Just ordered the plans for the Champlain 16' Can't wait to get started Best of luck with the completion of yours

tips my hat to you for undertaking such a project with a new member born to family plus as you say not real skilled with hand tools but you plugged on to the point you are at keep at it a little at a time. i'd love a cedar strip canoe but there is no way i physically could do it now. the dust and fumes from the chemical of laying the fiber glass would aggravate a breathing condition. keep at it and show us as you go

Really enjoyed these series of videos. Just getting my own project underway in Wales (UK) and these have been a great help. Did you ever get around to finishing the project?
I haven’t finished yet, but I haven’t given up either. Another kid on the way, transitioned out of the army and am a bit busier than I used to be. Just a phase of life. I’ll get to it- next step: gunnels and Sears
@@chronicwoodwork5466 good on you and many congratulations. This has been years in the development and haven't even managed to start properly. I've found that getting the workshop ready is a never ending project in itself, but can definitely see it getting close! I'll be aiming to film the stages of the project, so watch this space.
Really enjoyed the series and you explain things very well. It was looking great! I hope you find the time soon and bring us along for the ride. Thanks
Hey Andy, I just watched your canoe video series again for inspiration. Again I have to say a big thanks for the trouble you have taking to document the process. I'm enjoying building mine slowly. Got the station molds cut out and the stems bent and glued. The strongback will be the next step. Im curious about your canoe. Have you got back to completing it? Best regards Owen
Hi Andy. I’ve gotten a bit further with my canoe. Quick question! Does the fiberglassing of the hull have strong fumes and smell. I’m soon coming up on that stage and I’m concerned about that as I’m building it in a friends workshop who’s living upstairs. Ales curious to know if you’ve gotten back to your canoe build?
I started building my canoe in September, and I am sanded and ready for fiberglass l, but have been to nervous to do it, I have been avoiding it for at least 3 months
Chronic Woodwork. If you ever get to the Chicago area I will show it to you. I am sanding the inside tonight (6/10/018) needs to be ready for a wedding on Saturday. So 6 days from now so five working days.

Holy cow, what a great and detailed series!
Ha. Thanks David. Still more to go as you can see. Definitely need to focus on my production quality.

I know what you mean by being nervous...procrastination has a strong pull. Lovely canoe

Dude, avoidance of a build still gets me after 35 years! Hahaha, some things never change, I guess!
Andy Birkey well that is both reassuring and depressing haha! We are all running our own race!
Hahaha, frinkin' basket cases....
