  • Black Bear Pass.. in the Delica! Massive thanks to my new amigo Nick for being patient spotting me while I very slowly worked through this insane road. We did it without issue, but I’m not sure I’d do it again. Upon sitting down for dinner in Telluride, the guy next to us says, “how was your day? You look shell shocked” 😅. Thanks to Alejandra for filming and Luke Segreto for providing the music.

    Anyone else thinking this would be very sad found footage if that jeep hadn’t shown up? I can’t believe you were going to attempt that solo and with no experience. Experienced drivers have died there.

    • @DanTheman-ne6wm
      @DanTheman-ne6wm 8 месяцев назад

      Inexperienced drivers need to keep off this road. It's unfortunate that this video will only inspire other idiots to be as dumb as this couple. You had no business being there.
      On the flip side though, these delicas can easily to pritchet canyon if they can do black bear😂

      If Nick and his jeep hadn’t shown up, I very well might have turned around at the part where I hit my bumper. A confident and experienced spotter can make all the difference.

    Im torn. Im glad to see people getting out there and doing this and experiencing all that nature and this country has to offer in term of natural beauty, but on the flip side, these folks really drive me crazy because it really goes to show just exactly how wildly unprepared and generally ignorant(not stupid, but uneducated) on what off roading really means, and the trails that clearly far exceeded this drivers experience and capabilities. If he were to have wrecked on Black Bear Pass, then it would have been more ammunition for the state to try and close that pass off for everyone for good just because these kids wanted to go check something out. Im glad they made it through and ran into someone who knew what they were doing, but this should be a good learning lesson to others to really know where you are going and what you are doing and to not exceed your capabilities. Also a note to the driver, put down the damn phone while driving, unless you are hoping to capture your roll over and death at the bottom of the ravine.

      Thanks for your concern, Reid. Bad things have certainly happened up there. I find it funny how we’ve never met yet you seem to know so much about me and my previous experiences. I’ll have you know that Delica and I have been over more Colorado mountain passes than most, and while the Delica is not exactly the best choice of equipment for the job, it certainly holds its own. It’s not as top heavy as it looks and feels, I promise ;)

    YOO! incredible job pushing through all that! I have an imported Isuzu Elf camper 4wd that I took on a trail in Maine (nothing as epic as this) but found myself a little deeper then I wanted and the Elf isn't nearly as good off-road as the Delica. Watching this took me back to that day where I almost flipped the camper I spent my life savings on haha. Glad you made it out to the other side in one piece (I cracked a little fiberglass but nothing important). Oh yea I wouldn't do it again either haha. I have a video up of it too if your interested. I look forward to checking out more of your videos!

    Just picked up my Delica with a Westfalia interior conversion. I'm doing the cylinder head+gasket on it and then plan to hit trails! I really want to take it out there so I'm happy to know it can be done in one. I heard they don't flex very well, but I had no idea how little it was aha
    Looks like a great adventure! Maybe we'll see you on the road!

    • @kylegarrity
      @kylegarrity  2 года назад +1

      Wow that conversion sounds sweet, I'd be curious to see that. Can Black Bear be done? the answer is officially yes. Would I do it again in a Delica? nope! If you make it out there, I might recommend Engineer Pass before Black Bear and see how you feel :)
      Hope to see you on the road!

    • @200degrees
      @200degrees 2 года назад +1

      @@kylegarrity It certianly didn't look easy haha I'm doing more trails around here to get used to my Delica. But if you find yourself near Pismo or any sand dunes really, I highly recommend lowering your tire pressure, throwing it in low range and having some fun climbing what you'd never expect our little vans to do!

    Crazy track, well done. What were your tyre pressures? They looked a little high, you will get a much softer ride, less bouncing around, and better traction with lower tyre pressure on terrain like that.

    • @kylegarrity
      @kylegarrity  2 года назад

      I don't remember exactly but I think they were around 10-15 psi. The Delica is just an all around bouncy vehicle haha

    That Delica is actually a beast offroad. Locking diffs, a low range gear box, and pretty great departure/breakover angles. Only issue is it's a bit tippy. Some wider set wheels would make it perfect.
