"There must always be a Stark in Winterfell" - Taking into account in which contexts was "winter fell" used in stories, I think over time they started to interpret it wrong as if a Stark needs to always be physically in the castle. I think it means that when the winter falls, the long night comes, there must be a Stark in the battle against the others. It actually backs up your video and what you are saying but with this thought having in mind it just makes it more valid.

I believe the reason there must always be a Stark in Winterfell is because of the Kings in the Crypt. Think about it, a spell especially a blood spell can only be as effective as it is cast if the blood line that casts it remains bound to the property. The binding of these Kings would have to be 3 fold. First of blood, then iron then earth. The first being the strongest way to keep them in check the second and third simply to bind. You do not bind a captive with a single or double cord rope or chain but a 3 fold rope or chain. The first being blood would link to the ways of the Old Gods, the second is the means by which they were captured and the third would be what is being protected.

So for me as a German reader, I wouldn't read it like "Winter falls/fell" but like "Winter-Fur", which is fitting as well to me, also because of the Wolves etc. ^^

here's my theory: The White Walkers/Others are actually all Starks that were loyal to the 13th Lord Commander and the ones in Winterfell are the descents of ones that refused to side with him. Everything with the White Walkers is either a big Stark family feud from ancient times or the 13th Lord commander has been imprisoned in Winterfell all this time and the white walkers are coming to free him.
Very good theory video! Thanks. :) A note about Jon and the NK. You mentioned how the NK wants Bran, and how he can't take his eyes off Jon whenever they've seen each other. But Jon, as we know, is Ice & Fire. What would the NK want with a Targaryen/Stark son? LOVE this video!!! You are awesome! Interesting facts about Ice Eyes and I have always been intrigued about the dreams and the dire wolves and the Starks history. They are definitely connected to the Night King.
Also do you think it’s a possibility that the description of the Night’s Queen sounds like Daenerys - skin as white as the moon - Khal Drogo’s moon of my life - maybe the Night’s King is coming for another queen?
It sure is an interesting thought that the name Winterfell actually doesn't refer to where winter was defeated (as most teories goes), but instead where it started.
You're videos are stellar, Dan. Thanks for helping to make the waiting time between seasons so much easier and for make us appreciate Martin's story even more.
You have been killing it with your videos lately! I am excited to see someone else pointing out what Nan told us about Iron. I think it's important too. About the eyes as blue as ice, don't you think it's interesting that part of the Westerosi burial practice is to put stones painted with blue eyes on top of the eyes of the deceased? I think this could be important too. Maybe it's a long forgotten symbolic way of preventing the deceased from turning into a WW? Perhaps part of an old spell?
gardengirlnc Some of the ancestors of Celts moved East toward China when other Celts went West thousands of years ago. Those Celts made their way around the great Gobi Desert, and a few natural mummies have been found where they had settlements. They put turquoise stones on the eyes...
from what I've read, the eye stones give the dead a new set of eyes and reminds ppl they should not fear death, since they believe it is not the end of existence. Also read that it's suppose to allow them to see what lies beyond in the afterlife.
It’s a shame that they missed important information in the tv show like old nan, Berics power of the kiss of life etc... (You could do a video on this; All important missing information)
There must be something significant with the name Winterfell, probably staring us right in the face and so obvious that were overlooking it, there is an old word " fell " when used after the name of a place that comes from the Norse word " fjall " which roughly means an area of high ground like a moor covered hill. which describes Winterfell's location perfectly, and those kind of location's historically were used as defensive positions
Hi! Going through some of your older videos that I missed due to "life" taking over. This is just as interesting now as it was then. Thank you for making this!
Starks must have something that the Night king wants. It belonged to him before . Could it be that Night king is one of the children of Night's king and Queen born at the Night fort and was given to the WW's before his father/mother was killed??? And their corpse/corpses is/are hidden beneath the crypts of winterfell which he wants back for him to reanimate.
I'm re-watching Game of Thrones again at the moment and I have a question- do you think that there could be some deaths foreshadowed in S8 from the way those people have killed others in the past? For example, Roose stabbed Robb in the stomach - Roose dies by being stabbed in the stomach.. Ramsey killed Lady Walder and the baby by using the hounds and then he dies by the hounds.. Could this be a hint as to what S8 could hold? Maybe Shireens death could foreshadow Melissandre's.. Just a thought, would love to know your opinion
Melissandre might. But it's almost certain that Jaime will kill Cersei with that golden hand, and for Bran its either Jon kills him or he will take the place of Bloodraven in a weirwood tree.
If the night king can summon the dead, I’m eager to see what happens if he reachesWinterfell. Will he be able to summon the dead from the Winterfell crypts? All the kings of winter, along with Eddard and Lyanna? There’s something creepy about House Stark.
Well, it has taken him 10 years to write one book. So, still impressive? Oh yeah. Right there with Tolkien. Maybe in some ways better. But he’s taking 10 fuckin years to write one book!!! Hurry up George. God damnit
Absolutely loved this vid, house Stark is my favourite house & I've always felt there was some sort of connection between the Starks & the White Walkers. I just want the prequel to start.
another nod to the Others being of House Stark(on the show) was the very last shot of season 7 AFTER they breached the Wall and there is an overhead shot of the Army of the Dead its the shape of the Direwolf of House Stark
My theory about the iron swords in front of the stark kings tombs is that it’s simply an old custom that stems from the long night and white walkers. When they talk about keeping vengeful spirits from escaping I think what is meant by this is to prevent others from reanimating dead starks as wights (the vengeful spirits in this case). I think you are perhaps taking this too literally
I believe the Night Queen was captured and imprisoned by the Starks of old in the tombs, more like a hostage. The others agreed to peace conditions such that she will be freed when the next winter comes (and Starks always remind themselves of the coming of winter). All this was done in the face of a situation where the Others would wipe out the entire realm, but the NK, bound by the love to his Queen decides to honor the request of men. As an alternative to continuing their line, they also demanded the male baby sacrifices -- a practice we seem to see occurring only north of the wall. But the Starks forgot. The NQ was not freed when promised, and the sacrifices were declining until they stopped eventualy. Maybe most of the wildlings are descendands of the people living north of the wall, the ones who had to supply the babies to the NK, but failed to do so and formed tribes instead. And, here he is, the NK comes to seek the end of the deal. This is in par with @Oracle of Raelor 's oppinion below
Craster boasted about having 99 sons and we know he sacrificed his sons. How many Lord commanders of the nights watch have we had? Perhaps this is significant
My theory is that the current Night's King is actually Bran The Builder, and that explains his methodical approach to invading Westeros. Knowing the weaknesses of The Wall as only the one who built it would know. Launching a single spear to kill (and then claim) a dragon seems like he didn't just come up with that idea in the spur of the moment... Mr. Frosty has been chillin' and plotting this out for a minute. He knows what to do and exactly how to do it.
I still think the reason they got past the wall is cause Bran crossed the wall with ''the mark'' negating the magic preventing them from getting through, the same way it negated the magic in the ravens cave.
“You know nothing Jon Snow”...do the Wildlings still remember? Great video! I have been on a break from ASOIAF, lol. After this I am ready! 6th re-read and so many theories to add notes to. 😁

(Yep, BETTER’ER) Great job. 👍 I’ve read you being compared to other RUclipsr’s which drives home my point. There is no need to “Dis” another RUclipsr as The Universe has enough room for EVERYONE. Case and point, I’m glad I did give you a chance or I’d be missing out on some really good commentary. Keep up the good work. It takes a lot of time and research to do what you and you ARE appreciated. Thank you. 🙏
This Others/Stark relationship might be one of the reasons behind the others actually marching down south. "A single family ruling over the north for 8 millenia with an unbroken male line"; "There must always be a Stark in Winterfell". Maybe after Ned went South with Robert something was disturbed and the others were pissed off. In my opinion, the Starks are 'magically' the defenders of the north, and the more of them dying, the stronger the others become. Once Ned is killed and Ice is 'destroyed', that could be the incentive for the walkers to pack up and start the invasion. The only living Starks are Jon, Bran, Sansa and Arya. Bran is the three-eyed raven now, Arya is no one, Sansa is a Lannister/Bolton even though there's Stark blood in her (plus she was very enthusiastic about leaving Winterfell), so that leaves Jon the only Stark and the last line of defense against the dead. In another of your videos, you spoke about a special way to kill the Night King since he created all of the other walkers. Maybe the weapon has to be valyrian steel/dragon glass but it has to be wielded by a Stark in order for the impact to matter (just a hunch, not necessarily true). Just thoughts, however.
Wouldn’t it be great if when they killed Ned Stark, that is when the Night King was born? Maybe all Starks had to be buried down in the crypts of Winterfell with an iron sword laying on their bodies to prevent them from turning into white walkers.
Theory: You closed the video with one of the family's credo's, "there must always be a Stark in Winter fell". But what if this: there currently ISN'T a Stark in Winterfell. Not officially. They all have Stark blood, sure, but Jon is a legitimate Tagaryen, not a Stark. Sansa could be considered a Lannister or a Bolton. Arya has disavowed her name countless times to become "no one", and Bran himself said that he's not Bran Stark anymore. Maybe, the Night King is growing so powerful because the Stark family finally crumbled and essentially broke their end of the deal?
Great video TT. I've been chewing on these theories for a decade and a half. I'm beginning to doubt we will get the answers in this series. Even if we do, this proposed new series will cast a shadow on them. Damn George. Lol.
Winds HOWLING (like wolves) from the north, as WINTERFELL..Solid clues about Starks being night kings. ..kings of winter...night kings! Agreed 100% about 13th LC put in the crypts Ygritte said, "Jon Snow, ahh, an evil name, and shuddered". One also shudders when icy cold. The old night king wasn't killed because he was a half brother to the Stark (kinslaying is forbidden) that brought him down. This was really fantastic, thanks, love QOT.🌹 😊
I also believe in this one :D if he was a "Snow", that could be the reason that people thought he was from different northern houses (+Stark influence)
SP2CA EXACTLY! Great point, I hadn't put that together till you said this. Cold winds are rising. I think those lower level tombs in the crypts where the iron swords have rusted away (according to Theon in books ) are where some of the whitewalkers have escaped. If 1 was 13th LC/nightking they could pass through the weirwood door under the night fort by him speaking his nights watch vow. QOT.🌹
Stark vs Targaryens : Direwolves vs kittens with an attitude ... take the Dragons away and the Targaryens will be meowing themselves into incest-oblivion ... ( Daenerys being the exception , of course ...) ... take the kitten and let it be raised by Direwolves , and will become a Lion : Jon Snow !
There was more than 8000 years of story before the chumps from Valyria showed up in Westeros with dragons..Including the long night and the first showdown with the night's king which the Kings of Winter and the North took care...The Targs even though they have magic and dragons, they are nothing compared to the Starks. The Starks have survived for so long and have protected the rest of the Kingdoms...What you said is not even remotely amusing. But I understand where you are coming from with only the show as your perspective.
Only problem I see with the new pilot subject matter is that it probably precludes GoT from revealing the full story of the White Walkers. They'll only gives a hint and shameless tie the answer to the next spin off.
This was masterful ... thank you so very much, (as always)! You and GRAY AREA have such talent.. the analyses you both present: using the books to enlighten & explain much of what the TV series touches upon honestly reminds me of the techniques used for the academic study of a given subject. The resulting ideas & information are deeply intriguing and well as engaging & entertaining! I ‘m very ( and I’m certain that this is true for many other fans ) grateful & really appreciate all the time and work that you put into these fantastic videos. Thank you, again!!
Great video as always! After watching this I’m almost convinced that since there must always be a Stark in Winterfell and JS isn’t the son of a male stark... and the Night King is a male Stark... maybe he is coming to take back Winterfell to protect the House Stark secrets or maintain the pact.
Could the ancient Night's King be entombed beyond the cave-in? Could he come forth, calling all the ancient Starks and their stone dire wolves to help in the war?
It’s in Jon, ch52 aGoT. Jon is having one of his Crypt dreams, where while he’s looking for his family, feels compelled to go deep down into the Crypts. In this occasion, he goes further down then he has ever been before and the dead Kings start to stumble out of their cold graves.
+Bee Baskerville The current Night King just isn’t powerful enough. He needs a to reactivate a older stronger Night King. “Slaying a dragon with ease is nothing compared to the origin Night King’s power”
I got a theory that could come up in season 8 , it's about the faceless men , the faceless man told Araya that the city of Bravos was built by the first faceless men which means to me that they kind a OWN all of Bravos including the Bank and also the Golden Company , so if Araya some how finds this info out with the help of Bran she might be able to get the faceless man to get the golden company to side with the Starks it's a long shot but you never know and I leave it to you to check this theory out
IMO its BS. golden company doesnt belongt to anyone. And is well-known for their accomplishing of given targets without fleeing like most of sellsword companies does. Also i think it would take a lot of time and risking of danger to carry whole golden company from braavos to white harbour considering euron grayjoy is maybe fckng drown god himself.
Excellent video. I will have to let it roll around in my head and maybe even rewatch it before I know what I think of all of it. I am reminded that there was a time when there wasn't a Stark in WF -- when Bran left after Theon took over. I can't remember if that's when the NK started moving south or not. Great excuse to go back and check!
Another excellent video but I did have a bit of a chuckle when you said the line between fact and fiction was blurred during that time. Keep up the good work .
This is brilliant! I have been wondering about the iron swords in the crypts as well and like you, I had a feeling the kings down there were actually white walkers and that was why the crypts go down so deep, to keep them in there somehow. I think the Stark Kings have all been Night's Kings to be honest. Also, I think the white walkers are the former companions from the Night's Watch, bound by sorcery to the Night's King (think Naz'guls from LotR). However, I think the sacrifices only prolong the Night King's "life", the babies are not turned into WWs themselves (and actually we never see WW children or anything), that would take too much time and we only ever see 12 companions, not more.
As someone who studied literature as a degree, I have such respect for the fact you can create these theories from reading the novels. Mad respect man. Keep it up.

Also do you think it’s a possibility that the description of the Night’s Queen sounds like Daenerys - skin as white as the moon - Khal Drogo’s moon of my life - maybe the Night’s King is coming for another queen?
Theresa Cassar can't work. Targaryens was one of the common Valyrian famillies. And they left Valyria 700 years ago or something around that.
Can we take a brief moment to acknowledge that another Stark just wiped a whole army of baddies out and saved the day
You have been killing it with your videos lately!
That is so interesting. Thanks for sharing!
from what I've read, the eye stones give the dead a new set of eyes and reminds ppl they should not fear death, since they believe it is not the end of existence. Also read that it's suppose to allow them to see what lies beyond in the afterlife.
Oh wow, I didn't know that. It makes sense symbolically. Very interesting tid bit.
Wow yes the blue eye stones!
No other channel comes close to yours!!! I'm obsessed!!! Amazing job!
It’s a shame that they missed important information in the tv show like old nan, Berics power of the kiss of life etc...
(You could do a video on this;
All important missing information)
Game Of Thrones You got that right
Game Of Thrones :::::The prequel is a go,at HBO,an opportunity to explore the “GOT” universe more thoroughly!💥☄️🤷♂️✌️
m c yes but if you have watched the scene and read the book lots of her story was missed out
We would need ATLEAST another 10 seasons to cover everything in the books love xD
Game Of Thrones preston jacobs have the "what you are missing" thing videos ...check it out..
Dude i get so exited when I see you’ve uploaded, you’re by far the most consistent content creator I watch in terms of quality!
+Vivek C Nair Winterfell falls and that the nights king and his army just leave
There is NO NIGHT KING...
We all expect either Tyrion or Jaime to kill Cersei though...
Isabella McCann yeah but you have the song "Hands of gold" foreshadowing it. Look it up
I think it's less about deaths mirroring each other and more about people getting what they really deserve, the most justice to be delivered.
I thought I replied to u the whole time, hehe. Sorry.
No, I remember, it still just seems too obvious to me, you know?
If the night king can summon the dead, I’m eager to see what happens if he reachesWinterfell. Will he be able to summon the dead from the Winterfell crypts? All the kings of winter, along with Eddard and Lyanna? There’s something creepy about House Stark.
Turns out he did
Well, it has taken him 10 years to write one book. So, still impressive? Oh yeah. Right there with Tolkien. Maybe in some ways better. But he’s taking 10 fuckin years to write one book!!! Hurry up George. God damnit
@@joejohnson6210 he's been too busy getting drunk on the tv shows success
Their is no knight king int the books who control the others
@@joejohnson6210❤❤❤
Absolutely loved this vid, house Stark is my favourite house & I've always felt there was some sort of connection between the Starks & the White Walkers.
I just want the prequel to start.
You deserve a million subscribers
You're too kind. Thank you!
TT is a hard working standup guy, props full time work + making videos !
Grim Seawolf hell yeah he does
If he ever surpasses 1 million this will quickly become an insult
So, you're just like Joffrey, but without the moral code?
Another one! great video, you helping us to get through the long night :)
another nod to the Others being of House Stark(on the show) was the very last shot of season 7 AFTER they breached the Wall and there is an overhead shot of the Army of the Dead its the shape of the Direwolf of House Stark
This is my favourite theory video so far. It’s full of the facts of the narrative and GRRM level intriguing. 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Thank you very much
Also the term "the north remembers" might have to do with pact between starks and others , so they remember their promise or history or the pact.
Why cant Season 8 Just get here already....
Wyatt Redman oh man, this didn’t age well
This is one of your best videos ever!!! Really great!!! How you managed to put all those details together, incredible!!! Good job man!!!
Your theories leave me completely bewildered!!! Great analysis !
Craster boasted about having 99 sons and we know he sacrificed his sons. How many Lord commanders of the nights watch have we had? Perhaps this is significant
Another entertaining video, I always look forward to your posts.
Thank you, Mark.
@@BambiLena666 dont use internet theory as your own
Wonderful and depth. Loved It! Really good work TT!
“You know nothing Jon Snow”...do the Wildlings still remember?
Great video! I have been on a break from ASOIAF, lol. After this I am ready! 6th re-read and so many theories to add notes to. 😁
George RR Martin must have thought we all have the lifespan of his dragons, that is why he’s taking his time finishing his books.😫
Wow! One of your best breakdowns. I see you, TThrones, you’re doing the damn-thing. 🔥 You seem to be getting better and better’er. (Yep, BETTER’ER) Great job. 👍 I’ve read you being compared to other RUclipsr’s which drives home my point. There is no need to “Dis” another RUclipsr as The Universe has enough room for EVERYONE. No need for competition. Your style of delivery is obviously different from others, but guess what, it works, because you ARE different. I have to be honest, It took me a second to get use to you (Subscribe) because I was so use to a different RUclipsr/s and how they choose to deliver their stories. Case and point, I’m glad I did give you a chance or I’d be missing out on some really good commentary. Keep up the good work. It takes a lot of time and research to do what you and you ARE appreciated. Thank you. 🙏
Thank you very much!!
This could also explain why there 'must always be a Stark in Winterfell'
Ice is a relatively modern weapon, obtained around the same time the Lannisters got Brightroar.
omg u r amazing!!!! excellent work my friend!!! thank u very much for ur dedication
Wouldn’t it be great if when they killed Ned Stark, that is when the Night King was born?
Maybe all Starks had to be buried down in the crypts of Winterfell with an iron sword laying on their bodies to prevent them from turning into white walkers.
Ned Stark killed the Night Watch deserter who saw the Walker well South of the Wall, in the Prelude. Well before his death.
I Absolutely Loved this Theory and Everything you do.
Thank You for keeping the Citadel alive!
This is all very compelling...with many clues and fascinating details that all intersect.
Thanks, Jeff!
Excellent video hands down one of my favorite videos you ever made
Theory: You closed the video with one of the family's credo's, "there must always be a Stark in Winter fell".
Great points! Thanks Olenna!
Talking Thrones Dan, Thanks man! You get some much deserved R&R this weekend, Love QOT.🌹 😊
QOT.🌹
So which "Snow" did Melisandre see in the flames?
Glad to see you making videos again!
Really like your videos man !! Waiting for the prequel now !! 🤘🤘
Himanshu Bansal Thank you!
Was waitin for this!!!! Interesting theory!!
Without stark family game of thrones is waste.....
uhhh nope because there are the Targaryens which without them... well, there would be no story at all (+ no dragons lmao).
Stark vs Targaryens : Direwolves vs kittens with an attitude ...
take the Dragons away and the Targaryens will be meowing themselves into incest-oblivion ...
( Daenerys being the exception , of course ...)
...
take the kitten and let it be raised by Direwolves , and will become a Lion :
Jon Snow !
@super shredder grammar*
fascinating stuff your insight into this literary piece is amazing, always entertaining! thanks!
Only problem I see with the new pilot subject matter is that it probably precludes GoT from revealing the full story of the White Walkers. They'll only gives a hint and shameless tie the answer to the next spin off.
I mean what? We will get REAL answers in Winds of Winter; almost certainly released next year.
If you look at the outfits the night Kings I think they sort of dressed like Starks
This was masterful ... thank you so very much, (as always)!
You and GRAY AREA have such talent.. the analyses you both present: using the books to enlighten & explain much of what the TV series touches upon honestly reminds me of the techniques used for the academic study of a given subject.
The resulting ideas & information are deeply intriguing and well as engaging
& entertaining!
Finally U uploaded Video this week Thanks 😄 btw, Congrats Jon Snow and Yegritte Finally Crow & Wilding married now 😄😉
You know nothing Jon snow;!!!!;
The woman that plays Yigritta is a Scottish princess?
He really did blow her socks off properly.

Talking Thrones i realy did , your video’s are the best . realy love this story over the night king / Stark . And really hope it’s true .
Wow. You captivate with your narration. What a brilliant mind you have.
Wow amazing. I enjoyed this so much 😁 thank you so much 😁 ❤️
Thanks Nicole! 😘
Nicole rea hi
This is so good! You’re one of the only channels that I feel has it right!
Could the ancient Night's King be entombed beyond the cave-in? Could he come forth, calling all the ancient Starks and their stone dire wolves to help in the war?
Bee Baskerville I think he's down there, and there are many references to those Kings of Winter "coming alive."
He might be there, but he sure as hell won't help :P
+Bee Baskerville The current Night King just isn’t powerful enough. He needs a to reactivate a older stronger Night King. “Slaying a dragon with ease is nothing compared to the origin Night King’s power”
@@jameswhite3415 can you please explain when Night King's position was passed down
Great Read, waited and waited for your upload video, thank you!
A very compelling breakdown. Great job.
Thanks Shawn
You proposed some interesting theories that are definitely plausible and exciting to contemplate as a possible narrative going forward.
I got a theory that could come up in season 8 , it's about the faceless men , the faceless man told Araya that the city of Bravos was built by the first faceless men which means to me that they kind a OWN all of Bravos including the Bank and also the Golden Company , so if Araya some how finds this info out with the help of Bran she might be able to get the faceless man to get the golden company to side with the Starks
it's a long shot but you never know and I leave it to you to check this theory out
IMO its BS. golden company doesnt belongt to anyone.
The walkers maybe back to avenge the killing of Nerd Stark
That would be very interesting.
Yeah, Nerd Stark's death was unfair. Revenge of The Nerds!!!
markanthony1004 Nerd Stark.. what's that mean?
Interesting, but they were active before Ned was killed.
Remember the Night King is a greenseer...he foreseen Neds Death
Another excellent video but I did have a bit of a chuckle when you said the line between fact and fiction was blurred during that time. Keep up the good work .
Great theory! I can't wait for the Prequel show.
Good video brother! You just got a new suscriber. Keep up the good work vato!
U Hv Left Me..Speechless Again! Thk u sir, grt theory!
Thanks Ann
I don't think the Golden Company is Braavosi
That bearded white walker in cave paintings looks a lot like Three eyed raven when Bran first saw him.
and here im waiting for the books to tell more about Sothoryos or Asshai at least
Awesome video helped me understand the Starks and White Walker connection better.
