In the South, we call that a jaw harp or mouth harp. This song is several hundreds of years old, and it is from the hill people of Appalachia, who brought this from Europe, especially the Scots-Irish and English.
React next from Home Free "How Great Thou Art", (it was filmed in the Austrian Alps, not far from where The Sound of Music opening was filmed) you'll really understand how talented they are. After that check out one of their originals, "Why Not ?" Adam of home free is a two time world champion beat boxer. HomeFree has no Instruments for backup because they have Adam. Some say he swallowed a complete drum set haha. Please react more from them you have only scratched the surface. They are simply amazing
You were correct, Jews harp, jaw harp, or mouth harp at the beginning. Then a harmonica during the break. But they did them both just with their voices, no help. They're amazing! Really enjoyed your reaction!
It seems in different countries it has different names. Jew's harp, also known as the jaw harp, mouth harp, gewgaw, guimbard, khomus, trump, Ozark harp, Galician harp, or murchunga is a lamellophone instrument, consisting of a flexible metal or bamboo tongue or reed attached to a frame.
That isn't correct, though: the sounds were of a didgeriedoo, not a "Jew's harp". Lots of people are getting this wrong, and I don't see how....not everyone knows both instruments, but most people know at least one.
@@themidsouthcyclist8880 Why would they be using a didgeridoo (australian instrument) when what is common in the south wetlands is a jaw harp. I am surprised I didn't hear a jug
This song is from a film set in the Deep South of the United States during the Great Depression, a lot of folk music and bluegrass comes from this time.
Traditionally it has been called Jew's Harp, but that is seen as possibly offensive, so it seems to be changing to Mouth Harp or Jaw Harp. He's using harmonic singing, like the Tibetan throat singers, to make the Jaw Harp sound - multiple tones from the vocal chords at once. No special aids. There is no room for a harmonica there. They do this live on tour. Of course he can get a little resonance change using his hands. The
Great choice for reaction - this is one of their best/most popular songs after Ring of Fire. That instrument goes by many names - Jew's harp, jaw harp, and mouth harp are the most common names.
Dad was close, the sound you heard is Chance doing a jaw harp.. I saw them do this song live and I promise you he is yhartmonica free.. HOME FREE was in So. The monster reptile in the video is an Alligator not a Crocodile. You got most everything correct and I enjoyed watching your reaction. Home Free has a ton of videos so have fun!

I am glad you enjoyed their performance, I suggest you also check out their May Day, to see some of Tim's upper vocal work, and the "butts remix for something fun
The lights flashing on camera is a known issue as it comes from LED lights as they turn on/off to control how bright they are and that can get the shutter speed of the camera off from the on/off speed of the light. Easiest fix is changing to a florescent or incandescent light but without corrective measures that can make the video quality worse and upgrading to camera lights can be on the expensive side. The other reason the camera might pick up the lights flashing is the fact that we have two power frequencies in the world so items designed to work on one can have issues on the other even if everything else works like normal. The US runs on 60 Hz and Europe runs on 50 Hz with that not sounding like much of an issue but the speed of the powers cycles can change how fast an internal clock runs or even slow down how fast a computer chip works.
let's see. I like "Home Free - Everything Will Be Okay".. for PTX try "[Official Video] Radioactive - Pentatonix & Lindsey Stirling (Imagine Dragons cover)" lastly try Voiceplay... "MOANA MEDLEY | VoicePlay Feat. Rachel Potter" or "OOGIE BOOGIE'S SONG | The Nightmare Before Christmas | VoicePlay A Cappella Cover" or "Warriors (Imagine Dragons) | A Cappella"
Love my Home Free. We fans call ourselves Home Fries. You might want to check out Voice Play another Acapella group, but Home Free is the best. A good next song would be "When a Man Loves a Woman" made during the Covid Lockdown The only ones in the studio were Austin and Amberly ( his then-girlfriend now his wife) all the other parts were done in their homemade studios. Then sent to Darren ( the 6th member of Home Free as I say) who edits and arranges all their music and videos.
New subscriber. I loved your reaction! Please do more Home Free you will not be disappointed they have a huge catalogue of covers and originals and have been putting out a new video every 2 weeks since Covid/Quarantine began. They do much more than just country music, from comedy to serious and everything in-between. This song is from the George Clooney movie "O Brother Where Art Thou" soundtrack. It was apparently filmed in Arkansas.
Nice reaction. Adam Rupp is Home Free's beat boxer and responsible for the percussion and harmonica sounds in "Man of Constant Sorrow". He's incredible, and if you'd like to get a better idea of his talents, you should check out the drum solo that he performs as part of a Home Free live performance. You will be amazed!!! You stated in your reaction, that you are familiar with both Pentatonix and Home Free. They each have loads of reaction worthy songs. But since you are on this a cappella journey, you may also want to give a listen to Voctave and Voice Play, two other phenomenal groups. Enjoy!!!

Pentatonix - "Gold", "Cracked", or "Say Something" Home Free - "Blue Ain't Your Color", "My Church", or "Wake Me Up" The problem with Voiceplay fans is most of them recommend terrible songs for reactors to react to. Don't listen to them. You only need to check out - It Ain't Me, Any Way You Want It, Boy Bands In 5 Minutes, I Will Survive, Sh-Boom, Tennessee Whiskey, and Can't Help Falling In Love With You. There might be one more I'm forgetting, but that's it!!
PENTATONIX AND HOME FREE BOTH WON THE ACAPELLA SHOW THE SING OFF. PTX WON SEASON 3 2011 AND HOME FREE WON SEASON 4 2012. I BEEN A FAN OF BOTH GROUPS THE FIRST TIME I HEARD THEM PTX SANG ET by KATY PERRY ft KANYA WEST AND HOME FREE SANG GEORGIA FLORIDA LINE CRUISE
I'm sorry to say but you missed this group singing in Denmark by a couple of months. 💔 (but they will be back in 2022 and Avi Kaplan is coming to Köpenhamn in late of 2021. And I will also be there 😉)
The term "Jew's" harp is a bastardization of the phrase "juice" harp which anyone would understand if you've ever played one. It is impossible to NOT drool all over your chin when playing one properly. Every reactor is impressed with the end of Tim's verse, BUT THEN he drops an additional minor sixth when he sings his part on the verse tag. FYI, there are alligators all along the Gulf Coast from south Texas to the Everglades in Florida.
