    1:15 The arrows' direction is shown to be up and down while the suspension mechanism is more horizontal. I look forward to a new design to have more vertical compliance.

      The reaction to a bump is to kick forward.
      Also more vertical means more bobbing.

    Whoa, so this design does not attempt to fix the distance between seat and crank like FSR? What is the cost in pedal efficiency? I would have just preferred a gravel specific epic rear suspension. This bike doesn't seem to science very hard, but it looks awesome.

    On mountain bikes the rear suspension is vertical. Here it seems to be horizontal which at first sight seems a lot less efficient at absorbing vibrations as the saddle moving back and forth in a horizontal line isn't doing much besides consantly changing your reach and position.

    • @Pshpshpshpshpshpshpsh
      @Pshpshpshpshpshpshpsh 2 года назад +1

      There are also full sus bikes with the shock sitting horizontal as well. This is essentially a mtb with less travel.

    • @markianross
      @markianross 2 года назад +7

      @@Pshpshpshpshpshpshpsh on mountain bikes even when the shock is horizontal it is connected to a pivot in the frame which allows the rear triangle to pivot up and down, so the rear wheel moves, which helps it over obstacles and means it works whether you're sitting or standing. However there is no pivot with this system, only the seat post moves which means it only works when you're sitting down, and you also don't get the benefit of improved rear wheel traction. So it's nothing like mountain bike suspension. It's basically just a vibration absorber for your bum.

      @SpecializedUniversity  2 года назад +6

      As the suspension compresses on a mtb, the bike changes shape. By suspending the rider, not the bike, your pedal power on our gravel bikes is unaffected. That said, the two worlds are certainly converging.

    • @ridemtns13
      @ridemtns13 2 года назад

      @@SpecializedUniversity but isn’t the same thing happening here? Saddle moves relative to bb and stem is moving up and down? Anyone remember the Slingshot bike from way back? This seems to do the same thing in a new way.

    • @SpecializedUniversity
      @SpecializedUniversity  2 года назад

      @@ridemtns13 Sure, any system with any amount of compliance will effect the rider. Our research is showing that moving the saddle relative to BB(suspend the rider) is faster than adding suspension to the bike. In the slingshot bike the compliance is in the frame, changing BB relative to front axle and beyond. That's suspending the bike and hurts your ability to keep pedaling and steering through chunk.
