very very good insight at the end of the video, I fully understand why the deal happened the way it did now: it all came to the power of leverage: Sam Presti had all those 1st round picks, probably thought Caruso was the best fit therefore went after him first (not necessarily the youngest or best), knew he wouldn't give up a pick for him, worst case he gives up one of those many picks for a younger better player (all this time in the back of his mind knowing Caruso helps him most next season, still with alotta cap space and all those picks in his backpocket) and with all this said traded a player (Giddey) who was entering free-agency who he had no intention of xtending next off-season

It's been great to watch this dude's rise, and now every hoop-head knows what's the word.
Giddey has insane vision and basketball smarts. If he can improve his 3pt shot 3-5% he will be a walking triple double.
Crazy thing is that the Thunder have enough depth, and picks to make a trade for anyone that they want to. They could literally bring in anyone, and still have enough picks left over to completely replenish in a year.
Imagine the thunder getting Zach Edey 😭

They need players that can stop other stars but gel well with the starting unit well. Hence why they gave up a potential all star for a Vet that can shoot the 3 and guard 1-3

Are we pretending Giddey isn't a PG who can't shoot or defend? What is with the coping on this? Giddey and Derozen as a guard duo that can't shoot? You going to have centers guarding your PG? You gonna have Ayo back to playing 15 minutes a game? And they likely want to draft Devin Carter in the draft? This is a terrible trade for a bad NBA player that will play in Australia in a few years. The bulls just sealed themselves into another year of mediocrity, instead of trading Caruso for a top 10 pick in this draft which was offered to them. Horrific trade, horrific player, and I haven't even mentioned Giddey's off court issues

yes but on a contending team he cannot be your main ball handler. Which then makes him a liability. I like josh a lot but he has some major flaws in his game.
@@reed1511the Bulls are not contending anytime soon. He can grow with the young guys and fit the timeline. Realistically they should have traded him at the deadline to OKC and they might have gotten a pick also. That would have helped OKC in the playoffs and gave JG time to play and learn the offense and build chemistry with the team.
@micaheldey1981 nah okc had a good thing going. They didn't want to mess with the dynamic. And it paid off during the season and first round. Without giddey they wouldn't of been no.1 seed. Even without readjustments work a new player he stepped up without sga and jdub and made some game saving plays.

Bulls fans have no idea what Josh can do when he gets to be a true PG. of coarse SGA should’ve dominated the ball but put Josh will shine and has years to continue to get better. As an Pistons fan first, I don’t like to see him in Chicago, and as an OKC fan second, it’s a good trade for both teams needs.

@@DaffyTaffy93 not as a knock against Caruso, he's a bull in my mind still but dude was a nonfactor offensively and even with his incredible defense, he got hurt A LOT. He's a perfect fit for OKC cuz they tryna win NOW and he can help them do that off the bench with his defense but giddey is a still raw 21 yr old with size, great passing and great playmaking ability. We have good defenders not at Caruso level but we don't have ANY players that can be floor general save for derozan who still isn't a PG by any stretch hence why iso ball was his go to playstyle on offense

Giddy is not a clutch player. Especially when you need him most in the playoffs. He cant shoot consistently and is a liability on defense. I must say he is a great passer though. Caruso is a much better player overall for any team.

well to be fair, if josh giddey was on this years draft class he would probably end up at #3 to #5 pick, so the saying that The bulls could have gotten more for caruso because of those rumored 1st round picks offers for caruso, it doesnt changed anything at all, specially hearing that the bulls wanted to trade up for the draft this year then they could have ended up drafting josh giddey either way (again if josh giddey is part of this draft class this year).
It’s nice to meet a logical person. You can’t grade a trade off of what you could’ve got in the past. At this moment in time this is what was received. Given the circumstances with Lonzo and the direction of the team, this is a good trade for both teams. Buy all the stock you can in Josh, when he can dominate the ball as a true PG and in the East…watch
@@AdamLovesHorror it's not that the Bulls aren't better off with Giddey than Caruso (for their timeline, etc). It's just that Josh is very flawed so Caruso probably was worth Josh + 2 or 3 2nd, or a 1st or something.
Look, they tried to make this trade at the trade deadline, but OKC wanted see where they stood in the playoffs with the roster they had. This is why this trade happened when it did. Giddey is better than a lottery pick in this draft. Sam knew the Bulls wanted him, and also probably had other suitors for him. So I imagine Sam basically said it’s this or he’s going to the Wizards or the Jazz. AC is a bench player being traded for a starter on the #1 team in the west.
Josh is a solid player, had a rough season off the court, and was asked to change the way he’s always played because of the rise of Jalen Williams. He had more going on than I think people understand. Josh could be an 18/7/8 player for yall…
Caruso should be OKC's second best defender (to Dort), and I thought he'd be #5, starting, and play 20+ minutes a game. I thought the #1 reason they got rid of Giddey is because he was the #5 option on offense, and not good enough on defense; so they bring in a guy whose offense doesn't matter, but he's great on defense, especially perimeter D.
I think this trade helps the Bulls, helps OKC and gives Giddey a fresh start.
@@tarico4436 Caruso will likely be the 6th Man, first to spell SGA late in the 1st Quarter while he and J-Dub run the offense. Then he'll return to play the bulk of the 4th Quarter as a shut-down 3 & D guy on the team's second-best ball handler.

@@tarico4436 OKC is gonna get a big PF to start, or may even promote a player like Dieng, who is 6’10” and won the G-League finals MVP. AC in the starting lineup is too small, which is why the Bulls should be happy their new lead guard is 6’8”. But AC will probably sub in for Dort as usually him or JDub are the first off the bench. So imagine the other teams starting guard gets a breather against Dort only for AC, and Cason Wallace to be subbed in… 😂😂😂😂
Other teams guards are gonna have NIGHTMARES against OKC. They drive against Dort, only for AC, to come help, followed by JDub, and then they have to meet Chet at the rim… ITS OVER. 😆
Good trade for the Bulls
Giddey is only 21 the kid is capable of a walking triple double, I think once Chicago see the kid production on the floor we are going to love the trade
that does not mean that you do not need draft compensation.
I think Giddey can only be productive on a very mid team. He cannot ascend midness. Last year OKC was not good and Giddey was seen as their second star. Now they were much better and he fell off.

Although good, who knows how long he has till he declines? At the very least, Giddey can still grow as a player and does everything else at a good enough clip.

Giddey makes players play the right way. His style rewards guys who work off the ball, who cut when they need to cut. A lot of his assists are real, rather than just passing round the perimeter to guy that can shoot from halfway.
So he's more than his stats IMO in how he can have your team and culture change for the better.
If anything, the Bulls should've given picks for Josh Giddey. Giddey is putting up more Points, Rebounds AND Assists in FEWER minutes and a lower usage rate than Caruso. He's also been playing in a different position than he's best suited to since he's sharing the floor with SGA. Josh Giddey is already a better player than Caruso has ever been and he's only got room to get better
Unlike Caruso, Giddey can't shoot, defend, or dribble. His passing is overrated b/c he often gets too fancy and turns the ball over -- in fact he led the team in TOVs for the regular season, even while SGA led the team in assists. He's decent at sideline-out-of-bounds passing and rebounding, and not much else. At least Caruso knows he's a role player. Giddey and his fanboys and fangirls are convinced he's a star.

Every one who speaks on this isn’t mentioning the fact that without Lonzo you can’t run White or Ayo at PG to set up the offense. Now we have a true PG, they may see how he plays with team before trading Ball.
First he was Josh Diddy, not that he is in Chicago, call him R Giddey. Keep him away from Whitney Young, the name alone is heaven for him.
Giddey is the best player in league below the age of 22 that was available for what you was willing to give up before the draft anyway. Bulls had 0 leverage to get any picks added onto the trade with all the potential and IQ Josh brings as well us needing to get Caruso gone before draft night. It’s a great trade for all parties.

That's an excellent point. As disappointing as it is that the Bulls didn't get a draft pick in the deal, OKC didn't need this trade as much as the Bulls did, and could have easily done a deal with someone else.

josh giddey is a nice experiment. it's hard to be patient at this point for more experiments. the only thing good is that we get to see alex play ball when it counts. it'll be fun to watch him on okc even as a bulls fan.

As an OKC fan I think this was a good trade for both sides, Giddey is a good player he struggled this season because of the allegations and also the team progressed so rapidly that his skillset was not as important for us anymore. He turned it back around towards the end of the season and had a great series vs the Pelicans. He’ll thrive being a primary ball handler and he’s only 21 still. He’s an amazing playmaker, can hit a couple 3s a game, can get you rebounds and has a nice floater game. Caruso just fits us a lot better and he was not going to resign with Chicago anyway.
Seems like the Bulls could have got one of OKC's own 1st round pick as that pick's going to be towards the bottom of the draft for the next 15 years. I didn't realize Alex is 30 already. Seems like just a few years ago he was on a two way contract with the Lakers but time flies.

As a Blazers fan, I've been pretty frustrated why it takes soooo long to make any trade at all, with the state of our rebuild and trade-now assets.
Meanwhile, Bulls just running a fire sale on their best players, and now I'm rethinking that previous frustration.
