I hadn't thought about this tune for a long while until I heard that Tom died. My band used to cover this song. We were playing it in a honky-tonk between St. Paul and Hudson, WI, before the interstate was finished. It was not unusual to see 20 or more big rigs in the parking lot of that joint. The truckers loved this song. It brings back memories, RIP Tom T Hall.

You know, the other thing is that usually, when an artist dies, you know you'll never hear anything new from them. But in Tom T's case, even though I know dozens of his songs, I wander around youtube and I still find new songs that I haven't heard before, or "new" old songs that I had forgotten about years ago. They'll never be another Tom T Hall. May he rest in peace.

They used to play songs like this on a radio station called the outlaw. Loved it but then it was taken over by new management and it went down hill fast.

When I lived in Nashville back in the early 70s, I met Tom t Franco. He wrote more songs than anybody else. You can imagine they would not let him sing him.Because he was not a singer until he got his own recordings studio
