      Roger Paris thank you. We just do RUclips for fun and to give back to the community since we’ve benefited so much from what others have shared over the years. But we are trying to improve our sharing skills so thank you for the positive feedback that we are improving. As far as the GX just didn’t really need the room of the LC/LX as its mostly my wife and I without the kids most of the time these days. Plus being a little smaller helps on some of the tighter trails.

    Great build. I agree with you on the Metal Tech bumper, there will be better options out there. I've never been a fan of the looks and how far it hangs back there. Doesn't look like it increases departure angle much at all. I'd look into the Kaymar rear bumper. As well from what I hear C4 Fab and 4x4 Labs are coming out with GX460 products soon.

      @Moondoggy1941 3 года назад +2

      @@pall5114 I am a fan just like you, this is not my video I am just chiming in, so the price increase is due to Covid, dealers do not have new inventory so they are selling used, so the wholesale used price has gone through the roof so they have to pass it on. Check out Tustin Lexus in Ca. they got a good deal on 2018 for 39, which used to be 33 to 35 K. If you can find a GX 470 for sub 12 that is a good buy. I bought a GX 470. GX 460 are the way to pretty to go off road in them, I would drive for 5 years first then do the Overlander. If you have the money no worries, you will always have a good re-sell. 4Runners are expensive and have great re sell. So you cannot go wrong with them. Buying a used one is harsh that is why people are buying the GX 470.

    This truck looks amazing but with all the accessories you have to be pushing the GVWR without anyone in it or taking anything more than what you showed in the video. 56 Gallons of gas alone is going to weigh about 450 pounds! The front and rear bumpers with what you have on the back I would bet add about 300 pounds. The lift, tires, fridge and RTT would make up the rest. Then if you throw in 4 adults that could be upwards of another 700-1000 pound and that's not including clothes, bikes, other camping accessories etc. Please explain this and where I am wrong.

    • @overlandv10
      @overlandv10  2 года назад +1

      yeah she was a heavy rig. We did do some work that I never shared to get some of the weight out of it when included taking out the rear drawer system, swapping to aluminum bumper and some other odds and ends. We also swapped out to a heavier duty suspension. But I sold the truck not long after that so I never did any updates about it on here. But I hear the new owner is loving it.

    I love this rig, the original video gave me so much inspiration for our build which is still ongoing. LRA tank is going in soon on ours. W are putting our second battery up front on the passengers side and relocating the secondary air pump instead of at the rear near the firewall. We've been stacking on the miles, 15,000 in the first seven months and counting.
    A few questions. When you lay the second row seats down do the seat backs match the height of the FrontRunner drawer system or do the drawers sit up higher and can you install them with the third row seats removed? Did you consider other drawer system options like those from Goose Gear? Is there another snorkel available for the 460 besides the Dobinsons?
    Thanks for the update, I hope you keep her around for the foreseeable future and continue to improve upon it followed up with annual updates and videos of it in the wild.

  • @park2103
    @park2103 4 года назад +4

    You should seriously consider removing the third row seats, it would make your drawer setup sit about 6” lower and you would take more than 100 lbs off the rear end. Most of the Australian Prado drawer kits require removal of the third row.

Then keep it for 20 years. The best vehicle made period. The 2.8L gets 30-32 MPG. Of course only few states allow engine swaps due to state pollution laws, and engine is $15-20 K installed.

    Did it have KDSS and air suspension air bags?

    • @overlandv10
      @overlandv10  4 года назад

      KDSS, no air suspension. I wanted a limited but air suspension is standard on and we were just going to rip it out so it made no sense. Bought the premium instead since it can come with out the air suspension.

      I tell my kids to be sure to stay out of debt so that when you are older and established you can buy toys instead of playing catch up. And thx! It’s back in the shop undergoing some improvements. Will update with another build update once it’s back on the road/trail.

      @@overlandv10 good way to raise the kids honestly. Being financially aware from early will benefit them. I personally follow Dave Ramsay. I'm not in the same financial position as you, so I'm looking for a 2010-2013 GX that I can throw on some light mods to get me out to some trails. Your is definitely goals tho

    with all that weight and big tires, did the regear bring back power or is it slow?

    • @overlandv10
      @overlandv10  4 года назад +2

      Hema Nigansz I wouldn’t call it slow. It’s certainly not fast but I don’t feel like I want for more power than it has. But yes the regear is making a huge difference IMHO.

      overland_v1.0 thanks, i just wanted to see if it drive like stock with the power there after all that weight and adding gears. Now I can’t decide between the GX460 or a 200 series landcruiser, but GX fits in places better

      Toyo Taco Appreciate that. That receiver is the high tuck from Metaltech and the piece in the receiver you are seeing is part of my ISI bicycle carrier. Not sure if you follow us on IG but I have a few pictures of the set up on there with the bike carrier on it.

    No rooftop tent, Never! Get the biggest Yakima or Thule ski/storage box. Sleep and safety is most important. Driving around with a box that looks like a giant mattress is not only foolish, but stupid. Big Ground tent is better, and easier. Ski box for bedding, firewood, trash, dirty clothes, supplies, food, boots, shoes.
    Make all the interior storage system removable as to allow sleep inside possible with air mats and memory foam, and have real security when a bear is nearby, and BE ABLE TO GET A good sleep when it is windy or cold outside. Try to sleep with wind at 20-45 MPH will literally kill you next 3 days IN A ROOFTOP TENT.
    My GX 470 has only front 2 seats, and nothing else. YAKIMA 18 cu ft. Box. 2 fat ebikes, sleep area for 2 in rear, storage system, cooler, not refrig. Prefer good food, and restaurant if possible. NOT in the Army anymore!!! But can wing it up to 7 days without any problems.
    Otherwise incredible build, Add more power if possible via chips or turbo, or swap out with 2.8L diesel available from Japan or Australia. Then I am thoroughly happy. As far as selling now as is, You can get $100,000 easily with the right person, no need to discount to the el cheap out there. Drive it for another 3 years and then put in the 2.8L diesel. Then keep it for 20 years. The best vehicle made period. The 2.8L gets 30-32 MPG. Of course only few states allow engine swaps due to state pollution laws, and engine is $15-20 K installed.
    Don’t sell it, enjoy it!

    Stop being so long winded. We don't care about the road you're parked on or how many miles you put on it, for example. Also, if you removed all the "uhhhs" this video would be about 15% shorter

      @@overlandv10 LOL- what I did this Saturday night is buy a GX460, and now I'm watching videos on it. Are you suggesting that 10 minutes of "uhhhs" and irrelevant information like what road you're parked on improves this video? If this were a 10 minute video it'd have 3x the view time.

    Not Painting all accessories to match is a serious shortcoming on a build this expensive;( and that crap ARB compressor. Honestly it can’t see why this build wasn’t based on a LC! Otherwise buy a used GX !! And save tens of thousands, or start with a 4RUNNER

  • @ITakeYourFood

    How'd you build the platform for the rear - can I get this installed by a shop easily? How about the cabinets?
    Do you sleep in the back ever?

    • @overlandv10
      @overlandv10  3 года назад

      Sorry for the late reply. The drawer system is the Front Runner kit for the GX460/Prado150. It only goes up to the back of the second row so not really ideal for sleeping in it. But Goose Gear has a plate for the 3rd row and one they are working on for the 2nd row which would likely allow you to build a sleeping platform.
