Thanks so much Dave!!! I’m always trying to get the best sound (as we all are!). This is the most success I’ve had so far. Hope all is good with you and the gang. Miss you all! 🎸😀
@@LewisKilvington It would also be great if you don't have a Spare Archtop Guitar but it's close enough. Flatwound strings should complete the finishing touch.
Great Lewis, my setup for years it’s bene “Antonio Surdo pickup “ and behrigher acoustic DI, now I use Audio Technica pro 70 and AER amp because I’m trying to improve my right hand technique so I can get more volume and better tone on my guitar .
Oh yeah! I’ve used a Surdo pick up in the past. They are great! A few of the Rosenbergs use them still 👍 Yeah I find I end up playing softer with the Stimer style pick ups. But I prefer playing hard with proper gypsy right hand technique! So I use the Audio Technica when I can 👌
¡Hola!
I've been playing thru a Tonedexter preamp for sometime now (after experimenting with SO many different setups). I just bought a Krivo Micro-Manouche pickup and it's the best sounding (and easiest) setup I've had. Incredible, balanced, and warm with a smooth high end - almost sounds like I'm running it thru an old Pultec EQ. It's actually a humbucker, yet sounds amazingly acoustic and you can get a lot louder than with a piezo. I'm probably going to sell the Tonedexter now, even though it does work wonders for a piezo. I'm DONE with the piezo "quack" - it makes a $4K guitar sound like a crappy toy.
Yeah the Krivos are great! It’s such a quest to get amplify this guitars! I had a big tone piezo and I just don’t like the quacky sound. Glad you’ve found some success!
Excellent, thanks for the comparison. I've had an Audio Technica Pro 70 for years, and never got it to work well. Now I have to buy the Venue Di?!! Ouch, that's a lot of money. Any good cheaper alternatives that do a similar thing? is the EQ the most important part of the Venue? Any other controls that are needed to get the Pro 70 working well? Thanks, Jamie
Hi Jamie! I know right! I was in the same situation. I couldn’t get it right but when I got the DI, it was so much better. You can pick up a decent acoustic DI for £100 or so. As long as it has a notch filter, Bass, Middle and Treble you should be great! I have a question. I have this microphone AT and it sounds great but the feedback is ruining my gigs 😢 how do you connect the mic to the DI if there is only jack insert? Thanks for anwering!
@@GypsyGuitarJourney Hey! Yes this is the problem with the mic! I use xlr to jack cable to connect them together. I’ve also just bought a cs sensor that sounds great with no feedback.
@@LewisKilvington So I would have to get the mic into the di that it comes with and then out from that with xlr to jack into the Baggs and then PA? I got the AT for my birthday as a gift from my wife and its sounds great. I want to make it work and not have to buy additional gear….
This is a great video lesson about pickups. We always have these questions in our Gypsy club. This is GOLD Lewis. Thank you.

The Magnetic Pickup has a nice Archtop Hollow Body Electric Jazz tone
I agree! Perfect if you're going for that "electric" sound!
