Start sandblasting from the top down, front to back and rebuild.
There are still a few gems left in usable condition for restoring.
This looks like one of them.

What I find most impressive about this truck is, despite its age and neglect, the steel is still solid and not rotted all the way through, though it is rusty as hell. I also like how the hood can still stay open, too, cars even half its age will have the pistons fail.

@@JacobsFarmLife I wish, it has a sprung engine rod because I accidentally ran the machine without knowing that it was low on oil and the engine started knocking. If my dad and I decide to get it fixed it’s going to require an engine rebuild. Outside of the engine, there are other parts on the machine that need fixing if we get it working. It’s going to need the kingpin rebuilt/replaced, it has a steering fluid leak, it has a leaking piston on the boom, one of the brakes doesn’t work, and it needs a new seat (all it has for a seat is the pan that the original seat went on)

@@JacobsFarmLife I had actually meant for my dad’s backhoe. The F750 was definitely having engine problems but the other issues I mentioned were actually for my dad’s 580B backhoe. The truck needs engine work. we will probably swap the engine in the 750 with the engine from our other Ford dump truck (it’s a 1971 F600 so it would have the same engine). Other than that the 750 needs a little body work (suspension, mud flap bracket, some holes patched up, and a couple dents hammered out), some electrical work (the lights and turn signals), possibly fixing the mechanism that raises/lowers the bed, and patching up the bed itself

If I can pick your brain for another question: the one brake is slightly locked on. I used to be able to go in reverse and it would unlock itself however that does not work now. Do you have any tips to unlock a brake drum?

cool old truck. I also like your super duty too. Are parts hard to find for the old f series trucks. I'm assuming that motor is a 360

Thanks. The Super Duty is a 99 7.3 59k miles. Supposed to be a 352 and I’ll let you know about parts here soon.

YOU AGGRAVATED ME , JUST A LITTLE BIT! You seem Sir, to be a very good person , to work on farm equipment. But with the 74 F750, you seemed a bit lost. Or asleep. Realise that what you have there, is a "gem" for that level of technology! I mean it is a great place to start! Frankly Sir, you went about starting it, in a very poor manner. Put a good battery in it,
and check the oil. always add 50/50 prestone into the cooling system! EVEN IF IT LEAKS A BIT! Why? Because , vehicles that have sit unused for a number of years, we tend to workon them in spurts! If you put water; in it, like you did; if for whatever reasons you leave it for
another time, you may not touch it till next year. So water will maybe crack the block in the
winter time! if you leave it like so! that's why! Next, blow the plug holes, with air, and pull
the spark plugs noting the cylinder numbers from front to rear. (not the firing order) and remove the plugs . squirt a little bit of clean engine oil in all the cylinders! leave the plugs off and then crank (spin ) the engine! It will spin much better to lube the cylinders , and get the oil up into the oil galleries and circulating in the engine ! then put the plugs back! Next, sand the points to clean them just a little with emery cloth! Put the cap back! At this point do not worry about poor wires or bad cap tower terminals. you will check those later! Your carb was a Holley 2300 2 barrel , with a vacuum governor, it seemed like. Cleaning and installing a carb kit in these units is very easy, if we guys do not let them scair the shit out of us!
Having it rebuilt was a good idea. I am sorry Sir but pulling the truck with a tractor , with the truck in gear was a brutes way of getting the engine to turn over! Not good !
YOU DIS AGREE? FINE SIR i WILL NOT ARGUE WITH YOU! Next putting fresh gasoline in an old dry tank, after you paid to have the carb job? is not so smart! If you ever do that again,
always install an in-line visible paper gas filter between the fuel pump and the carb! It will also
show you if your pump is pulling gas up! With these old trucks jury rig up a marine gas tANK'
or a modern plastic marine gas tank with another fuel filter, and a gas line hose to your pump
bypassing the main old tank, that you do not still know is covered in powdered rust ! is simply good procedures and well worth your while ! Always prime the carb with a VERY LITTLE BIT OF GASOLINE INTO THE AIR HORN OF THE CARB, INSTEAD OF CRANKING THE SHIT OUT OF IT! AS YOU DID! Your overheating was 98% a stuck thermostat! Not a water pump that has
a bit of wobble in it due to age! Any worn water pump of those years that does not pour out
coolant, like a steady flow, may be worn, but it is doing its job! You would know the minute
you filled up the radiator! simply put a clean large pan under the rad and pump erea of the engine so as to recover any coolant if there is a serious leak! and instead of driving the truck like you did, you the doctor....should have stood at the front grill of the truck on a small step
ladder and listened to the engine as it ran, for any noises, and touching the lower and upper
rad hoses to see, after ten minutes or so, that the upper hose was getting hot! then you would have known that the thermostat was opening to cool your 330 cu in V8 or your 361 cu in v8!
Sir I am not any better of a man that you , or smarter! The problem with these videos is that good procedures and bad procedures are presented to those who are interested, and bad procedures are copied by guys who know no better! also safety! Always have a 20 lb or larger fire extinguisher ready at hand with old trucks ! also, any old truck you intend to use
install a main battery kill switch accessable from the driver's seat! One of my F600 trucks
started cranking and melted down the whole wiring system right in front of my eyes ,
while i struggled to disconnect the battery in a pannick! I am a grand master at bringing back alive those old braking systems. But I will discuss that another time!
    I have a small collection of 4x4 f600s, and 1600 4x4 International loadstars!
get in touch with ZANE AT hodge podge garage on you tube and ask him if I DO NOT KNOW
ANYTHING ABOUT THESE OLD TRUCKS! i AM HERE TO HELP YOU, NOT EMBARRASS YOU!
WE ALL HAVE MADE MISTAKES, AND LEARNED MANY TIMES THE HARD WAY.
I AM NO BETTER THAN ANYONE ELSE! AND I WANT TO TELL YOU THAT YOU HAVE A VERY , VERY USEFULL GIRL THERE IN YOUR FORD F750 DUMP! FIX HER UP, GET HER GOING,
SHE IS WORTH HER WEIGHT IN GOLD! and after you see how much they want these days for a new one? you will flip! Best regards! kennethzakaib607@gmail.com montreal Quebec CAN.
