It's not so much a brand thing. Most any cast iron American engine can run after MANY years sitting, IF you keep water from gettin' inside it. And that includes pesky mice and squirrels that piss down the carburetor if they have the chance. It's a rodent thing.

Had a fleet of 454 dualies for hauling boats. Average fuel consumption was 5.4. They were fast. Carried a spare distributor rotor and Phillips screwdriver, and quarts of oil. Blew a lot of exhaust manifolds and cooked a lot of starter solenoids. Finally added an external solenoid. Had to replace the Quadrajets with Holleys for better fuel mileage, + 10%. Factory plug wires were junk. Added Cadillac oil coolers until factory started adding oil cooler.

Some of the GMC were fairly loaded up. It was my uncles truck and he was a car guy so I"m guessing he scrounged up some of the parts like the tach and added it to the truck. The SPID in the glovebox door doesn't match the truck so I know he swapped that out with a black door from another rig. The PS was added also as you can see the torch marks on the inner fender for clearance! Thanks for watching!

This is the sort of video I'd show someone who doesn't understand my aversion to the appliances they call vehicles nowadays. That thing sat in the open for 27 years, drove the next day. Good luck to anyone who'd want to try that with something modern after it'd sat for that long!

That sure looks like an old U- Hual equipment transit truck. Did your uncle say he built it?? Because it would be ironic if he did. Every aspect of the truck is what U-Haul Corporation would specially order and built. From the color, to the black and Uhaul color interior with heavy duty vinyl floors. The ramp design was for jockeying, delivering multiple U-haul trailers from one location to another. They were not for rent. They would have been for district regional supervisors and also tasked by U-haul dispatch. Look up the paint code and build code, it might give a clue, it should be Base, Custom, or Special. More on that later. Actually it is kind of rare, as very few were made or survive. Most of U- Haul equipment was from Ford for those years, but U-Haul had the right to buy non rental specialty vehicles.

@@MortskeRepair Do some research of Uhaul pictures from the 60s and 70s. You might find an exact example of your truck. Look over truck everywhere for any markings that say Uhaul. From frame to evidence of decals, sometimes stamped on rim's, frame or body. Sometimes in door jambs on maintenance stickers, oil change. Most people would remove everything they could when purchased out of service. It's a cool truck.
