I can understand him going back to Darren (Darrin?). That was the first person that offered him validation, who gave him hope that he is doing the right thing in following his dreams. It is very hard to let go of that when you are in such a low state. Donny throughout the show was shown to have this desperate need for validation. He became just as obsessed with Martha and she was with him and the same with his abuser. He made great strides in his healing, but it’s truly an uphill battle and there are points where you fall back to things that aren’t good for you.
