I visited Carthage as a young child and was touched to my heart's core by the sacred atmosphere I felt as I gazed into that bedroom and walked those halls, where Joseph and Hyrum Smith died. In my heart, I felt like that room was almost too sacred to step in, too somber to feel anything but the most exquisite melancholy. I felt a deep, poignant sense of both sadness and holiness pervading that place, I will never forget it.

Every time we read the Book of Mormon we need to think of this . From the time as a teen he asked the question which church to join a simple question which church to join . He was hated and beaten and constantly someone trying to kill him or harm him . He actually did die when he was dragged from his house .

I was blessed as a young woman to go to Nauvoo with the Youth of my ward and visit Carthage Jail. I had felt the Spirit of Heavenly Father the entire time I was in Nauvoo, including when we did baptisms for the dead in the Temple. I couldn't contain my emotions when we walked through the jail and entered the martyrdom room. I touched the bullet hole in the door and stood by the window that the Prophet Joseph Smith fell threw. I felt the Holy Ghost testify to me of the divine purpose of Joseph Smith's mission and his sacrifice. I have carried that with me ever since and to see the sights of Carthage Jail again, brings back so many memories and the strengthened testimony I gained that day of Joseph Smith

"Between three and four o’clock in the afternoon the Prophet requested Elder John Taylor to sing the words of 'A Poor Wayfaring Man of Grief.'
This comforting song breathes in every line the very spirit and message of Christ. Only a person who loved his Savior and his fellowmen would have requested to hear these words at such a time.
When Elder Taylor had finished the song, the Prophet’s eyes were wet with tears, and he said, 'Sing that song again, will you, John?'
John replied that he did not feel like singing. He was oppressed with a sense of coming disaster.
'You’ll feel better once you begin, and so will I,' replied Joseph.
Hyrum also pleaded with him to repeat the song. And Elder Taylor did.
This time his voice was even sadder and more tender than at first, and when he concluded, all were hushed, but four hearts beat faster for they had carefully listened to the fateful words:
'My friendship’s utmost zeal to try, He asked if I for him would die.
The flesh was weak; my blood ran chill, But my free spirit cried, 'I will!''
The other three heard Joseph murmur as an echo to the song, 'I will!'
The love of Christ was in the song; the love of man was there in that room in the Carthage Jail.
While this spirit of love and service for men expressed in song and prayer filled the hearts of all within the jail, the mob was gathering. The final details you know." -Elder David B. Haight, BYU Devotional, March 1986

Absolutely exquisite! Thankyou, Brother. I live in Australia, and have been richly blessed and humbled to visit Carthage on two occasions. On my first visit I was with a church history tour group, and our coach driver was not a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He came with us through every tour of every location we visited at Nauvoo and Carthage, and felt the Spirit there; but standing in that upstairs room at Carthage Jail was where he (and we in the tour group) felt the Spirit so strongly that every one of us was in tears. It's a very humbling experience to be in the room where the martyrdom of Joseph and Hyrum happened; it gives one a renewed appreciation and gratitude for those two beautiful gentlemen, and strengthens one's testimony of both their work and their dedication to The Lord.

One of, if not the most, beautiful song ever written. It touches my soul every time i hear it and fills me with such admiration and love for our Lord and for our brother Joseph... I will never hear this song enough and this rendition of it is beautifully sung. Its filled with such emotion and emphasis, the way it should be.

We actually just visited Carthage a couple of months ago for the first time. I will never forget how my heart sank the moment it came into view. One of the sweet sister missionaries sang A Poor Wayfaring Man of Grief as part of the tour. The clock in that room is set to the very minute of the martyrdom. The bullet hole is still there. It made me feel so sad. I know the missionaries said that we should think more of the tender mercies that happened while there, but it still just brought an empty sad feeling, wishing that I could meet the prophet Joseph, that I could have offered him kindness where the mob only offered him death.

This is a beautiful song. It's my favorite hymn. It is my dad's and was my grandfather's favorite as well. When my grandfather returned from his mission to Nauvoo, he sang this for us. I treasure the stories my family has of Brother Joseph greeting them on their arrival in Kirtland. Our family is blessed to have had a hand in building both the original and the current Nauvoo Temples. The stained glass around the top was put in by my grandfather.

We did the Nauvoo and Carthage tour about twenty years ago and of course we were very moved by the experience. However, what surprised me most of all was the testimony of the Spirit I felt in the small room in Brigham Young’s home as we stood where the apostles would begin meeting after the martyrdom to continue guiding the new church. They read Sister Young’s letter to Brigham telling him of Joseph and Hiram being killed as he was away on a mission. It was overwhelming. I had been inactive for thirty years and back about ten or so at that time. My wife of 58 years is a convert and the only reason I ever came back. I know she was meant to marry me even though I only knew her for two weeks before I proposed as I was home on leave when I met her and we married two months later. That was in 1963. She would join the church in 1990 kind of blindsiding me. Glad to this day that she did.

I didn't understand (17 November 2021, Wednesday, at 15:23) the emotional impact upon the Saints of the Most High God till today. I have been completing the Book of Mormon Institute Class via independent Study. Using the 2009 Institute Manual. I love the Prophet Isaiah, whom is the most-quoted of all the Prophets that ever have been , as well as Mormon+Moroni. Watching this Presentation, drove me to tears. Usually I am not that emotional, BUT, I have felt the connection between what the prophet went through, so as to bring us more of the Word of God. With myself and countless others, in these, the latter days. Joseph Smith Junior underwent ridicule, hatred, venomous words from others; yet, for all of this, came out the victor. I must thank him for doing as he did; as commanded by the Lord Jesus Christ. To this he has no equal, and I express my gratitude for bringing forth The Book of Mormon: companion to The Bible, which has preceded this remarkable volume of Holy Scripture.

I'm glad you read God's word the Holy Bible.
You mentioned you love reading from Isaiah.
Please also read the testimony of God that no other Gods exist except himself.
He is omnipresent and omniscience, he knows of none,(because none exist).
According to the Bible, Man cannot become a God.
Keep reading God's complete and completed revelation to mankind!.
      Kind regards to all.
