This is one of my absolutely favorite episodes of his just because he is absolutely hilarious and had so many great lines 😆😆 When he says,” Don’t they teach you anything in stupid school?”, absolutely kills me 😆
Doctor Who Extra is honestly the closest to Confidential we'll ever get, but I really miss the hour long experience of seeing behind the scenes of Doctor Who, but I did enjoy this.
Although there wasn't much of a plot in terms of the Skovox Blitzer, I loved Danny's characterization...him asking the Doctor 'whether I should call you SIR?' and making fun of him like that was incredibly emotional - and I never find ANYTHING emotional.
The Robot Of Sherwood was this seasons best episode by far, the dialogue between The Doctor and Robin Hood was hilarious and I hope the Doctor comes up against more historical (or fictional) intellectual matches in the next season. (Such as Nick Frost as Santa)
The Doctor probably was an "officer" in the Time War and he might have send soldiers to their Death, a reason as to why he's sensitive about soldiers now.
Well, in "Listen" the Doctor as a child was offered to "join the army" but he didn't want to. He wanted to join "the academy" and become a Time Lord. So maybe his dislike of soldiering goes way, way back.
SP Murphy He's never liked the military but he's had military companions in the past. This series he turned away Journey Blue in Ep 2. He's clearly gotten more sensitive about it now.
I don't know what happened in the Time War, but back in his 3rd-4th incarnations when he used to work with UNIT constantly, he did end up sending a lot of soldiers to their death. UNIT's soldiers were basically cannon fodder.
I really hope so too. I actually thought that he would be in the episode, and maybe tried to convince The Doctor that Danny was ok. Like, he talks to him about how The Doctor hated him being around at first, but didn't want to see him go at the end. I dunno, it was just an idea I had while watching :|
I know! William Russell is ninety! He may not be around long! What's worse is that there was never a reference to either Susan or any of the Doctors first companions!
Jimmy Vee looks amazing. I think he's playing R2-D2 within the Star Wars franchise now. Good luck to him, but I hope we still get to see him now and then as well.
The fact that the Doctor is disguising as a caretaker only reminds me of the 50th anniversary episode were 11 says he would be a great curator, and i have no idea why
Matt I just found Into the Dalek to be incredibly dull. I imagine that Deep Breath would get a lot worse on replay, but first time it was great to see Capaldi in action - the pacing didn't bother me because of that.
definitely not a fan of how danny behaved towards the doctor in this episode, with the whole officer thing. but, in his defense, he didn't know how sensitive a spot that was. hopefully, clara will explain it to him, or far better, he and the doctor will have some good bonding moments in future episodes
Loved it! Then again, I've gotten something great out of every episode so far this series; my pre-series 8 trepidation is LONG gone. I'm glad we got a little more out of Danny and was fascinated by what he brought out of the Doctor -- the prejudice and the care for Clara (despite his being abrasive, in simpler moments, if you really study Peter Capaldi's face, and I know you are because how could you not, you can see the care) -- and I liked Clara's being stuck in between. I also enjoyed Courtney despite her inauspicious first foray into space. :D I'm endlessly intrigued and fearful about next week's episode; rumor has it that some very intense events are going to take place and alter Clara's relationship with the Doctor...
Pretty much every episode of this people have been annoyed that it says series 1 instead of 8, but it means series 1 of DW Extra, DW. Also, Ellis is funny as!
I agree with MrTardisReviews when he says: "'The Caretaker' was meh. It was alright. But it was an example of the limited run-time holding the episode back. Plot was wafer-thin, supporting cast were serviceable, emotions were okay but under-developed. It could have been more, but needed another 15 minutes. As it is, it's just okay" :)
I agree that it could have done with more run-time, but I was really emotionally hit by that scene where Danny was making fun of the Doctor's commander persona...and that was when I was really hit by that.
Here's a clever thing. In "Remembrance of the Daleks", the headmaster of this same school mistakes the 7th Doctor for an applicant for the caretaker position. And now here he is, years later, finally taking the job :D
I feel like this episode and the last one, Time Heist, lacked a proper exposition and plunged head first into confusion which I feel hurt both episodes.
No mention that the 7th Doctor was offered the position of caretaker at Cole Hill school in the 25th anniversary serial Remembrance of the Daleks? For shame.
I really was rooting for the Blitzer to take out Danny. Clara could have done better than that loser. An English teacher hooking up with a guy who couldn't put sentences in the correct order like he did in Time Heist. To quote the Doctor, "Nope, sorry. No, I can't retain that. I've tried. It's just not going in."
Seems to me that it's becoming more about the assistant/companion than about the Doctor. At the minute I think that Jenna Coleman is carrying the show which seems to be struggling with direction. Peter Capaldi needs time to take the reigns but better scripts/material would make it easier to accept.
I would ignore Moffat, that was a dumb and lazy comment. It is because of the soldier thing and the Doctor is protective of Clara. If he had an alpha male complex he wouldn't have considered a male companion during the Mummy on the Orient Express episode.
Jessenia Ojeda I know now, this comment is older than that. Anyway, about the soldier thing, Moffat made the Eleventh salute people a few times. Seems werid now between Ten and Twelve's clear dislike of them.
Favourite of the series. Not because of the Skovox Blitzer (which was very much on the sidelines) but because of that ONE SCENE where the Danny is making fun of the Doctor, constantly saying SIR - that was when I realized that this Doctor is the army commander...and it hit me hard.
I liked it but it made me dislike Danny more because of that little bit where he was making fun of The Doctor, The Doctor despises war and he hates how he had to become a soldier in the time war, and Danny decides to poke fun at The Doctor with that and keeps going despite seeing how badly it bothers him, i mean, the Doctor has saved the planet on more than several occasions and has even stopped the destruction of the universe itself and this punk is swaggering about thinking The Doctor is no good, granted Danny doesn't know all that, but the fact that i do makes Danny's attitude toward The Doctor rustle my jimmies.
supereece9000 Same feels here! Clara should tell him his stories, like she did to Robin Hood, just saying, and keep him from Interfering as much. Tho I don't know for what reason or how long, the Doctor and Clara won't be traveling together. Must be part of the plot, or something. Here is hoping during the Split more of the Doctor side is shown then Clara's.
The Zeus Hub I'm not saying that The Doctor isn't a "Commander", heck you just have to watch "A good man goes to war" to see it, but it doesn't change the fact that Danny was poking insistently at something The Doctor is very sensitive about, like going up to a war vet with ptsd and telling him he killed people, it's just rude especially when you consider how many lives he's saved.
IMO it has been the worst season ever, since new Doctor Who's start. The episodes are a bit too dull. Of course I hope things get more fun and interesting. And soon. But I don't know...
PCAriza Mate, it's the start of a new Doctor - they have to break into him before introducing the even deeper story-lines, just like they did with Matt Smith in Series Five; that's how Moffat's team works
I'm not discussing that, mate. The problem is that it's taking too long toto enjoy this season and this Doctor. Last episode (MOTOE) was better than the others, though, so I'm hoping things will get better. Let's see...
The Doctor really is an asshole and I just find the way he speaks to people off-putting. I hope he softens up a bit because I won't be putting up with that kind of Doctor for next 3, maybe more, years. I just love how Danny went from a shy, timid and awkward guy to judgemental prick who can somersault over deadly robots firing lasers with, what, probably not even an hour of total screen time over the course of 6 episodes? Oh, and Clara is in LOVE with him despite the viewer only ever seeing them either argue or having awkward conversations that usually result in Clara making Danny feel like shit for having been a soldier. I remember when Doctor Who had actual growth and character development; those days were fun.
This whole season was about character development (mostly Clara) and I like the doctor the way he is. Hey if you don't like it that's fine, I skipped over eleven and I came back for this doctor just fine.
The Doctor whistling the tune to Pink Floyd's "Another Brick in the Wall" was just brilliant. Peter is really standing on his own as a great Doctor.
It's hilarious thinking how much inspiration Pink Floyd got from Doctor Who in the 70s (and they even reference the theme in one song from Meddle)
I love the fact that the Doctor actually did the caretaker's work. He REALLY went undercover... squeegeeing windows and fixing lightbulbs... xD
I think the 12th doctor has OCD the console room is very neat and clean
"Nice to meet you."
"Now get lost!"
Gets me every time......XD
This is one of my absolutely favorite episodes of his just because he is absolutely hilarious and had so many great lines 😆😆 When he says,” Don’t they teach you anything in stupid school?”, absolutely kills me 😆
Really like Peter Capaldis Doctor, he's funny...without trying to be. Hope he sticks around like David Tennent did.
Doctor Who Extra is honestly the closest to Confidential we'll ever get, but I really miss the hour long experience of seeing behind the scenes of Doctor Who, but I did enjoy this.
2023 with Doctor Who Unleashed:
bet
Although there wasn't much of a plot in terms of the Skovox Blitzer, I loved Danny's characterization...him asking the Doctor 'whether I should call you SIR?' and making fun of him like that was incredibly emotional - and I never find ANYTHING emotional.
*hugs you*
"You've made a boyfriend error" Gets me every time lol
The fact that this was still a great episode and yet wasn't one of the seasons best just shows how great this season has been.
The Robot Of Sherwood was this seasons best episode by far, the dialogue between The Doctor and Robin Hood was hilarious and I hope the Doctor comes up against more historical (or fictional) intellectual matches in the next season.
(Such as Nick Frost as Santa)
This episode was awesome!
Oli 7he Gamer how
Got bored
To much talking but the monster was a great idea
The Doctor probably was an "officer" in the Time War and he might have send soldiers to their Death, a reason as to why he's sensitive about soldiers now.
No, I think he pretty much ran from the time war for as long as possible, and Just Became a solider then 'committed genocide'
TheMudkipdudechannel War Doctor looked young in Night of the Doctor.
What a great episode! Really funny.
I seriously wish there would have been an Ian Chesterton cameo. I feel like this is the only chance left for him to return :|
I'm hoping they've filmed a scene are waiting to surprise us at the finale.
I know right!! He absolutely needs to make a cameo! AARRRGGGH, DO THIS FOR US MOFFAT!
SP Murphy I thought the whole space-dad conclusion Danny came to after their first encounter with the Blitzer was a indirect reference to Susan.
Jimmy Vee looks amazing. I think he's playing R2-D2 within the Star Wars franchise now. Good luck to him, but I hope we still get to see him now and then as well.
Yeah, I got a kick out of The Doctor's great disguise. "My name is John Smith but I prefer to be called 'The Doctor.'" Deep deep cover.
"The Caretaker" is one of my favourites of Doctor Who. I would be happy if Courtney should came back sometime.
Loved this episode,I can't wait for next weeks.
Okay, am I the only one who is seriously jealous of Courtney? I mean, she's the same age as me!
True.
Talking about the Doctor being a caretaker:
“The Doctor used to be a sheriff!”
Nothing left to say?! The surprise appearance of Chris Addison was my favorite part of this episode!
The Caretaker Episode of Doctor Who was a good one just like Listen :)
The fact that the Doctor is disguising as a caretaker only reminds me of the 50th anniversary episode were 11 says he would be a great curator, and i have no idea why
1) The Caretaker
2) Deep Breath
3) Listen
4) Time Heist
5) Robot of Sherwood
6) Into the Dalek
That numbering is messed up - still emotional about that scene?
catandfishfc I'm not a maths teacher like Danny, I AM a PE teacher. xD
Nah
1) The Caretaker
2) The Robots of Sherwood
3) Listen
4) Time Heist
5) Deep Breath
6) Into The Dalek
Matt I just found Into the Dalek to be incredibly dull. I imagine that Deep Breath would get a lot worse on replay, but first time it was great to see Capaldi in action - the pacing didn't bother me because of that.
Matt Because it was unoriginal. Shrinking themselves down to go inside a Dalek I mean PLEASE.
So far, my favourite episode this series!
I loved this episode so much, it's definetly my favorite for now =D
Can't wait for the next one!
Capaldi es mi doctor favorito
I'm trying very hard to ignore Peter Capaldi's sequined shirt. My Grandma had a few like that.
definitely not a fan of how danny behaved towards the doctor in this episode, with the whole officer thing. but, in his defense, he didn't know how sensitive a spot that was. hopefully, clara will explain it to him, or far better, he and the doctor will have some good bonding moments in future episodes
I misheard the dialogue in the beginning as "You wouldn't blow the PE teacher" and just lost it
Pretty much every episode of this people have been annoyed that it says series 1 instead of 8, but it means series 1 of DW Extra, DW.
Also, Ellis is funny as!
I really love Jenna/Clara in this one. She’s so funny and cute when she’s angry!
MY WHOUFFLE FEELS :'(
TRUE
6:01 Me, when I was in Doctor Who. I was that calm... Totally.
+SP Murthy You're wrong...did you not hear the Barbara reference? "I used to have a schoolteacher EXACTLY like you once!"
Loved the references in this episode
i'm A massive doctor who fan just really want to see real Peter capaldi and jenna Coleman
Best episode of the season so far
this was my favorite peter episode so far.
i love Peter Capaldi's hair here lol. Pls keep it this length. haha.
One of the best and Most hilarious episodes 😂😂😂 I was crying of laughter the whole time
Miss these, miss these times. Gone too soon.
I actually think Ellis would make a really great companion.
This episode was really good 8/10
You really make me miss my school !
Series 1 Episode 6? Go home, bbc. Your drunk...
Only just noticed that xD This isn't...er...whatever came after World War Three? I can't remember every episode of NuWho.
Series 1 of Doctor Who EXTRA :) :P
Jacob Martin I worked it out.
you're*
God I hate autocorrect...
I agree with MrTardisReviews when he says:
"'The Caretaker' was meh.
So wait, they're not going to explain how they did Danny's flip? Was it a stunt double? Wires?
Samuel Anderson is just a badass.
Nah he just flipped
Here's a clever thing. In "Remembrance of the Daleks", the headmaster of this same school mistakes the 7th Doctor for an applicant for the caretaker position. And now here he is, years later, finally taking the job :D
I love orson in this episode
Plllleeeeeaaasssseeee give Ian a cameo in a future Coal Hill episode... PLEEEEASE
I am seriously pissed there was no Ian Chesteton Cameo.
Nice. I hope that Extra leads into a Confidential revival.
Awww Ellis is adorable :)
I feel like this episode and the last one, Time Heist, lacked a proper exposition and plunged head first into confusion which I feel hurt both episodes.
I think I'm finally warming to the new Doctor, still miss Matt.
Agh Im so sad that theyre a real couple now, but Im glad Clara's moved on. I havent really moved on
"I'm an action hero me" Ahahaha Jenna
Ellis is adorable
Did anyone else notice that the building the policeman was killed in at the beginning was the same building used for the crack den in Sherlock?
I think the doctor enjoys having some of those simple jobs
He says this is his first time on the Tardis, yet he's on there very during the 4th episode Listen, as Orson Pink...
Ellis was reacting just how i would
I really like Ellis. She's really funny.
I wish that Scovox Bltzer had done more in this episode and less Danny and Clara scenes.
Oh and I laughed so hard while watching this episode.
Did you now, Timmy?
No mention that the 7th Doctor was offered the position of caretaker at Cole Hill school in the 25th anniversary serial Remembrance of the Daleks? For shame.
I really was rooting for the Blitzer to take out Danny. Clara could have done better than that loser. Another Brick in the Wall whistle???
Bring. Doctor. Who. Confidential. Back.
2:12 Didn't he also play as davros from the stolen earth?
3:32 Why does that dude on the far left look like the 11th doctor(Matt smith)?
When they filming an episode in Glasgow
They called the video Series 1 Episode 6 not series 8 looool
loooool it's because it's Doctor Who EXTRA not the main series :)
Jacob Martin oh ok lol
Jacob Martin Is this supposed to replace Doctor Who Confidential?
Popcultureguy3000 yes
Popcultureguy3000 v hyytt73j2j1up0987766554432
1. Deep Breath
2. The Caretaker
3. Robot of Sherwood
4. Time Heist
5. Into the Dalek
6. Listen
These Doctor Who Extra episodes are far too brief. Need at least another 10 minutes.
so pissed off Ian wasn't in this
What is the name of the song from 6:04??? I really want to know!
STEVEN MOFFAT YOU DON'T NEED TO SAY THAT. STOP RIGHT THERE.
Wait... when did the 11th doctor become a rapper?? 4:04
From the mini series "Pond Life"
where was Ian Chesterton in the episode
Probably at home or something
I love that Ellis George girl,
i love peter capaldi, but i still miss my raggedy doctor
Regarding to 4:04, what episode was the the doctor a rapper? :O
A. Wing "Pond Life by Steven moffatt" mini episode.
Where do you see the 11th doctor rapping??
Seems to me that it's becoming more about the assistant/companion than about the Doctor. At the minute I think that Jenna Coleman is carrying the show which seems to be struggling with direction. Peter Capaldi needs time to take the reigns but better scripts/material would make it easier to accept.
I thought this episode wasn't enough about the monster, and too much about dani and clara. :/
Are they not going to talk about Missy and Seb?
I thought the Doctor's thing about soldiers was gonna be important but here Moffat explain his dislike for Danny as just alfa male crap.
Something tells me this wasn't from Series 1…
Series 1 of Doctor Who Extra, not Doctor Who -_-
Courtney seems like a better thought out version of that horrible girl Clara was a governess to last series. I'm perfectly fine with this.
What episode is the Doctor as a shop assistant and rapper or something
The shop assistant one was called "Closing Time". Gaactic has already told you about the rapper one.
Was this a reference to that awful 95 movie dalek design the luckily didn't go with?
Which episode is the clip at 4:03 from??
From the mini series "pond life"
The episode was okay. But not really interested in Clara's relationship. Would really like the enemies to be centre of attention.
What did people think of this episode?
Here is hoping during the Split more of the Doctor side is shown then Clara's.
supereece9000 The thing is, that bit didn't make me dislike Danny, but made me see the truth about this Doctor.
When did Matt rap?
it was a short Ep A pond's life on the season 7 blu-ray he was calling the Pond's and telling them what he was doing.
2 scary 4 me
series 1
hmmmm
God, what a terrible episode this was.
This series has been pretty boring so far...
PCAriza the series has been great, better than series 6 or 7
IMO it has been the worst season ever, since new Doctor Who's start.
Nice to meet you! yeah now get lost...
This whole season was about character development (mostly Clara) and I like the doctor the way he is. Hey if you don't like it that's fine, I skipped over eleven and I came back for this doctor just fine.
I feel a bit sorry for the girl... Her character wasn't exactly the best...
