Everyone's so busy complaining about Moffat that they forgot how terrific Michelle Gomez was as the Master/Mistress/Missy. I seriously have no complaints. Enjoyed the episode thoroughly!!
LiveYourLife Hooray! A sane Doctor Who fan! Welcome to the club. I enjoyed the episode a lot, and when it got to Missy's reveal I had lost track of time and realized this was the end of Part 1.
Not being content with inducing phobias about stone angels, shadows, snowmen and Wi-fi, the writers of Doctor Who have gone and made Mary Poppins terrifying.
No. I really like her as the Mistress. Should i say Mistress or Master. One thing i am wondering. I am going to say Master right now. The Master said she CHOSE clara. What does that mean? and the part where clara says she NEVER EXISTED. is not in the episode :). I understand why they put the next clips of the episode, because we didnt get the next time trailer :)
I enjoyed Missy. In fact I'd prefer it if they went back to the old idea of having the same actor (actress now) playing the part of a long time. Missy is charming, elegant, polite and completely batsh*t insane without overdoing it.
I just hope Moffat at least talked to Davis about this before going green with it as, tbh, Davis did a good job of putting the character to rest and, in turn, would be pretty dickish to reverse it all on a whim like 4 seasons after taking the helm... though saying that the time war was... oh never mind! xD
I'm fine with having her as the Master, but the reveal was poorly executed imo. Still, the rest of the episode was exceptional, and I really can't wait for Death in Heaven.
I loved that Ollie from The Thick Of It (that Peter Capaldi starred in) was the man who met Danny in the afterlife, and the swear words on the Physic Paper were referencing Capaldi's...colorful..character in that show.
This has been Moffat's best season since he started running the show. I think its one of the best season's in general. Capaldi is an excellent Doctor, and he's honestly becoming one of my favorites. The whole Missy is the Master thing, you guys need to grow up. The Master is by far my favorite Who villain. I've loved all incarnations from Delgado to Simm (well, maybe not Eric Roberts). Missy is no different. Its an excellent twist and a spectacularly dark episode.
I don't understand some of you. I thought this episode was THE most brilliant setup for a multi-part series finale since possibly "Turn Left" or "The Pandorica Opens." And it had perhaps the most brilliant cliffhanger since both of those two (Or "A Good Man Goes To War"). And, when it comes to The Master, it introduced the character at least as brilliantly as "Utopia." Michelle Gómez completely knocked it out of the park in this role. She brought in the psychopath that we last saw in "The End of Time," and made her absolutely her own -- hilarious, cunning, and terrifying at the same time. It was an extremely gutsy move to make The Master regenerate into a woman, and I applaud it (That is if this reveal is not one big bluff and it turns out she's someone else entirely -- I wouldn't put it past Moffat to do that). Also, I can't help but think if this is going to lead to the opening of Gallifrey's pocket Universe (where The Master was supposed to be). As for the plot itself, not too shabby -- Missy is harvesting human minds and upgrading their (DEAD) bodies using (STOLEN, probably) Time-Lord technology in order to... take over Earth (you know, as she's always been wont to do). Simple, yet amazing. It could be the first solid back-to-basics Cyberman-only episode since "Earthshock." (Although two of my favourite stories, "Doomsday" to me doesn't count because they get pummeled by The Daleks, and "Nightmare in Silver" doesn't count because it dealt too much with a Cyber-Controller instead of the Cybermen themselves). Also, the ideas it lay out about the afterlife, about death, and about grief were not only interesting, but properly TERRIFYING. I might be wrong, but "don't cremate me!" and "the dead remain conscious" just may come out to be two of the absolute scariest phrases in the history of the show! All in all, I adored this episode. This series has been an absolute joy to watch.
EXACTLY. Thank you. This finally felt like Doctor Who again, genuine threats, amazing cliffhangers and clever twists. I'm so happy with the way they handled it. Still, it's something different, and people apparently aren't that fond of change. Even though DW has always been about that. Huh.
I don't get it. People spend YEARS begging for the Master to come back. The Master comes back. Suddenly, " OH MY GOD WHAT THE FUCK MOFFAT YOU'VE RUINED DOCTOR WHO YOU IDIOT! " Make like a vacuum cleaner and suck it up.
Thank you! Some people that agree with me! I have loved this series and think a female master could really be amazing! Unless Moffat is tricking us. I hope not!
giligara30492 Agreed. A decent story with a terrifying premise and a fantastic 'villain' I hope Michelle Gomez's Mistress sticks around for far longer than a couple of episodes.
The more I watch dark water the more I love it.... I cannot help laughing watching the interaction between doctor who and missy. Michel Gomez is amazing. Looking forward to watch more with her.
Urgh, people complaining about how the Master is now female.. Welcome to Doctor Who, where an alien can travel through Time and Space in a ship that's Dimensionally Transcendental, but when an alien who's previously been male returns as a female, everything explodes.. Yea, OK.
Michelle Gomez is perfection as Missy/The Mistress/The Master. Shes all kinds of evil Mary Poppins, and is somehow over the top and understated at the same time. I completely live for her performance.
samual anderson-"didn't know anyone got killed on doctor who" whole whovian fandom - AHAHA oww you adorable little thing you haven't been watching doctor who for a long time have you?-_-
I sincerely apologise to all the people i thought were mad when they theorised that Missy would be the Master... I honestly didn't think the writers had the balls to actually go and do something so drastic. But they did. And i admit defeat. This was probably the most ballsy episode i've ever seen. I can expect a few classic fans to go mental as a result of this, but i honestly think that it works due to John Simm's incarnation that came before...you can see John Simm in Missy, but there's no way you could see Missy in Roger Delgado's master. Because there was that transition, I can accept it more. It's a bit like the Master has been through this maddening process that has ultimately changed his mind (and body) into this eccentric maniac.
***** Racoon goon I highly doubt she's lying about that. The reveal was played up as a proper reveal. To negate that as her lying would both detract from the impact of what is quite a milestone in the series' history (Good or bad) and be an even bigger punch in the face to the audience. It just wouldn't be logical.
Steve Gittins She can't be. That was very clearly Professor YANA, because he regenerated into John Simm On-screen. I doubt it's the incarnation before THAT either, as the Master explains in The Sound of Drums about him running away from the time war as if it was his first experience of it. And Missy clearly says "You left me to die" as if referring to The End of Time. But we'll see.
Michelle Gomez is absolutely brilliant as the Master! She brings out the evil in all of us fandomers, the craziness hiding inside. You guys know what I'm talking about, right?
This the first time in years that Doctor Who has had me hooked like this. The reveal for Missy being the The Master was awesome and you can't deny it. Also bear in mind it's a two-parter so we might find a lot of answers next week and also Michelle Gomez has done a pretty good job so far with being The Master despite having very little screen time. Let's just see how it plays out.
I find it hysterical that when Moffat writes John Hurt into an episode and reveals that its the Doctor as a cliffhanger, people go ga-ga over it, but once he does essentially the same thing for the same thing for the Master a sect of fans cry put for his resignation. But oh right, the Mistress is a woman, so clearly the programs been on a downward spiral since Russell T Davies left.
I think there are three reasons the fan base is in turmoil. 1. There is that loud yet small crowd who resist the changing of genders. Honestly this boggles me. There wasn't this much outcry when a lizard woman and a human woman kissed. Why now? 2. Those hoping that Missy was an original character. Honestly I really wanted it to be a new threat for the Doctor to deal with. The Master seemed to have an ending and bringing him back would just be alternating through about 4 major villains. 3. Those who really wanted the TARDIS,Valeyard,Rani,River,or Clara of some sort. All the signs for them were there. The uploading spirits(River), Missy's flirting(River), The Doctor abandoning her(Rani), Missy's experimenting on humans(Rani), and the focus on Clara more than during the Matt Smith era (Clara). Honestly most of us saw the Master as predictable, and usually Moffat isn't That predictable.
Jesus christ. You know the point of a two parter is that there are cliffhangers! Not everything is explained! It leaves the viewers to ask questions! But no, lets all talk about how terrible a writer Steven Moffat is for not delivering all the answers on a silver platter straight away.
@Torchwholockian you do know they were defending the episode and Steven Moffat for writing a two parter that actually leaves suspense and unanswered questions in the episode
but your forgetting one thing when it comes to the last 3 series of Doctor Who...this is Stephen frickin Moffat we're talking about...hes doesnt give people ANYTHING at all in the way of answers, but lets put it this way, next episode BETTER have a bloody good explanation as to how he/she escaped the fight with Rassilon when he defended the Doctor as Jon Simm, also they need to explain why the hell the Cybermen would team up with him, although it does kinda ring a little bit like the last time we saw him when he send humans off to paradise only to bring them back through time as those floating orbs...it does kinda feel like the same story just upgraded a little
NORFIE123456 I laugh at people who feel the need to be spoon-fed every single bit of information all at once. Guessing, having twists and turns is the best thing about the show. RTD's stories were atrocious but he could write great characters.
SERIOUSLY!? everyone complaining about Missy being the Master are the SAME people that complained about Capaldi being too old to play the Doctor. Remember that ? Dont freaking listen to them, as they are not actually fans.
Brain in a melted state after this episode. Oh god. The beginning made me cry a little, the middle made me go, "Okay, so far, so good." The ending not only melted my brain, but my face was like The Doctor's. I was like "No. No way. Steven Moffat... Why this villain? Why now?"
I literally almost exploded at the reveal, I though she was the Rani at first, but the Master... Earth's Core will explode in 3... Also, I commented on the Dark Water Trailer guessing that the cliffhanger would be Missy's reveal.
Am I the only one ok with who MIssy is? I think that's far better than her being some mystical presence/God type figure. And Michelle Gomez knocked it out of the park. Also, I think the Danny cliffhanger is fantastic. Extremely excited for next week.
Honestly, this is the best episode of season 8 of doctor who! The suspense, the excitement and the cliffhanger! Never saw it coming! I was so shocked when clara became evil... On the whole, this episode reminded me of the old doctor who episodes where you couldn't wait to watch the next one, and lose sleep over it xD
...in the end, all my worries were for naught. She was SO the master in the finale. The parallelism, the style, it was all there. This incarnation's defining factor seems to be an extra serving of troll.
LOVED THIS EPISODE! A good old fashioned callback and a good old fashioned cliffhanger! (Love Michelle Gomez, she'll make an amazing Master! and I loved the Malcolm Tucker reference!)
Despite the fact that everyone guessed it already, I WAS STILL A GREAT CALL! Mater is the Doctor's oldest timelord foe. It's only natural to reprise the role, especially for an audience that knows her/him so well already!
Capaldi made me watch Who again since trying to like the Eccleston series and dropping the timey wimey pair with their schoolboy rubbish... And Missy is far more recognisable to me as the Master than Eric Roberts and John Simm... it shows its not about gender.... She is brilliant!
+Carl Simmonds I agree. I was just re-watching some old who, and I loved Roger Delgado's master. Anthony Ainley was annoying (too much the pantomime villain) but I love Michelle's version - she's chilling and funny at the same time, and convincingly clever (not foolish like Ainley's version), reminding me a lot of Delgado.
+ElevenMisrule totally agree... Apart from the fact that I loved Anthony Ainley! Had a chat with him on the phone in the early 90s and he was so sweet... I think he was a victim of JNT but I still think he displayed megalomania very well in some instances like Logopolis/Castrovalva...
Realistically he could of done anything and it would have been "the wrong thing" or "ruined doctor who". I just want some clarification of the timeline that led The Master to Missy & I'm happy because i think story-line actually improved this series. Plus Michelle Gomez is acting brilliant, changing gender is nothing new a concept it just hasn't happened to the doctor himself (yet) and as for the episode being "inappropriate", there is no concept in this episode that we haven't seen previously in some form. Its family viewing genre & early evening position are there to mediate for individual cases, in a mass spectrum, this was just dead-simple sci-fi & a good watch.
'WHOAHAOHDA The Master was sent back to Gallifrey" 3 years later "WELP!! The Master certainly won't make a return!!!!" 1 year later "WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAT HE SHE BACK"
Oh my god people, can you stop complaining about how Moffat is bad cuz he didn't explain X or Y in the episode? Is this the first time you ever see a two parter? That's the point of it.CLIFFHANGER. Things are gonna be explained in the second part.A second part exists,YES!It seems like 99% of the people are forgetting that. You can't just finish EVERYTHING in the first part, cause then what would the second part be about?
"Oh please keep up" To which a small part of me was hoping for her to do some dramatic flourish and go "im your best friend! Hi, how ya doing, Doc?" XD
Does anyone else still have a sneaking feeling that she is the Rani. Chance are she is the master, but she did lie to the doctor about being a robot. What she said that her name stood for it spelled "Misi" not Missy. And if you think about it Misi and rani rhyme and spelt similarly you know with the "I". Also is The Rani known for doing bilogical experiments, and during humens into cybermen very biological. She lied once already and her character seems like a wacky person and would pull that practical joke on him, and also we left halfway through the convo. The Missy=Mistress=Master thing was a bit too easy and maybe moffat knew it so hes just doing that to throw people off. But chance are she is the master doe
I was hoping for the Valeyard. The Matrix showed up in this episode and last we had seen, the Valeyard was trapped in there. Also, in Deep Breath Missy says “I do like his new accent though, I think I might keep it” and now in this one the Doctor says “two hearts” to which Missy replies “and both of them yours”. It seems they were setting up for the Valeyard perfectly and I figured Missy being short for Mistress was a red herring all season but with direct confirmation I now highly doubt it is the Valeyard, especially since that revelation was the cliffhanger. What will they do in part 2, start out with “oh jk, I’m actually the Valeyard”? That would seriously diminish the impact and they could have done that to begin with such as “I’m you. I’m the Valeyard. You left me in the Matrix and now I’ve returned.” That said, the Matrix did show up, so it’s possible the Valeyard could be seen in part 2. Although then the episode has to wrestle with three enemies and only has 60 minutes to do so. Maybe the Matrix will reappear in say the series 9 finale but the longer we wait I think the less potential there is for the Valeyard. We know the Valeyard is between the Doctor’s “twelfth and final incarnation”, and depending how you view it you could have Tennant’s meta-crisis regeneration eventually become the Doctor or potentially the Doctor’s dark side (seen as the Dream Lord in Amy’s Choice) could have split off when he jumped into his time stream to save Clara, just like how many Claras split off as well. I really think choosing the Master over the Valeyard is a huge dropped ball, especially since the Matrix showed up and since Smith was the “final” incarnation, the longer we wait the less relevance it has. At this point though, I hope they don’t kill the Master off again and keep her around for a while like in the classic show. It would be nice to have a recurring enemy that is an equal (and opposite) to the Doctor again. Plus, Michelle Gomez is fantastic!
I really don't get why everyone is so obsessed with the Rani, she was just in two episodes, mostly a joke character that was only half as funny without the Master's ill-fated flirting attempts, and there were plenty of pretty cool Time Ladies (most of them good, but still. Flavia! Rodan! Darkel! Romana! I liked Flavia, she was cool and capable, one of the few reasonable Time Lord politicians, which was probably why the Doctor left her in charge after becoming president), and they can always make up a new one as a villain.
omfg the master!!!! i miss john simm but wow i thought it was the rani, the thing I'm surprised about is that she said "you left me for dead" but in the end of time he sacrificed himself to stop gallifrey. missy also said it was her boyfriend so everyone start writing doctor/master/missy fanfics :P:P:P also who else felt really nostalgic when the cyber theme came on ! plz reply all your theories!:P
Do you know why they made the Master female? Because people were complaining that the new Doctor wasn't female, so to keep those people happy, they made the Master regenerate into a woman.
Willspider5 everyone is hating on masters gender but i don't mind if the character is played well and still has the same qualities of the other masters
I always thought RTD would be gutsy enuff to pull a female or gay doctor, but not an old one. Where Moffat would be opt for an old doctor, but never a female one.... Guess i was wrong..... Moffat really trying very hard to outdid every expectations from us!!!
***** I'm not very good at math, so I'll just use 10 regenerations, The Doctor regenerating 10 times and getting a male body (two variables, man or woman) all 10 times would be 1 in 1024. 20 times would be 1 in 1048576. It's highly unlikely the Doctor is that lucky.
It's probably not "random", exactly (The Doctor always winds up as a native british dude of moderate, but slightly flawed attractiveness), but it has been stated that it can go wrong and result in unusual results, or that some Time Lords can exert an amount of control If Romana could briefly consider making herself *blue*, I think the Master can probably decide to say, "Oh, let's go with boobs this time, I'll troll the Doctor SO hard." Still, it feels like they're doing this just for the heck of it, not to advance the character in a meaningful way; This has the potential of being done SO wrong, but it doesn't have to be. We'll have to wait for how the Master/Mistress broke out of the pocket dimension. Maybe the other Time Lords got tired of waiting and sent him/her to find a way to get them out.
I think this is fantastic. Missy had that evil sass to her that is so close to the master, when i watched the episode back she was just like john simm. I think all you haters are ridiculous, the show has never said that the master can't be a woman and i think its one of the greatest story twists in 51 years
Words can't express how happy I am to see the master back always thought it might her do to the subtle sound when she was first revealed in deep breath but I was still caught off guard when they revealed it hope we get to see more of the incarnation and not just next week this seems like a very fun character
One thing I don't get is "she" (*laughs out of utter brilliance*) said that the Doctor abandoned her, but the last time the Doctor saw the Master, "he" (*laughs*) saved the Doctor from Rassilon... Great Episode!!! Roll on next week!!!!!!!!!
Good episode. Oh and if you're complaining that Moffat ruined the Master. Have you watched The End of Time? You know the episode where Davies turns the Master into Skeletor and has him shoot lightning out of his hands. And of course retconed the entire show by turning the Master into good guy who was just bad because of the drums in his head. The drums that he never mentioned before. Think about that episode before you say that Moffat ruined the Master by making him a woman or whatever.
I think everyone needs to chill about the whole Missy/Master thing. It is established in the shows canon that a time lord/lady can regenerate and change gender. The Corsar was revealed to be female several times. The 8th Doctor was offered the chance to be male or female. So the fact that everyone is bitching about the master being female is just silly. I personally love the idea. I know some people dont and thats okay for them not to. Everyones entitled to their opinion. But i think Michelle Gomez plays the role perfectly. Yeah thats right i said it i like the idea of a female master. I personally hope she stays the master, whoops sorry Mistress for a while. I just love how people can except a show about a 2000 year old alien who travels in time and space in a blue police box called a tardis. But cant except a female master. Wow. So yeah i like this new master, come at me
I'm not going to come at you because I agree! I thought it was a fabulous turn of events! Trouble is some people like to over-analyse everything, but as you said it was established in previous episodes that Time Lords can change gender! Y'know perhaps if all of us started to just enjoy the brilliance and fun of the show, we'd all like it!
Still trying to decide weather or not I like the new master. The episode had a several good moments. Hope they give a good reason for the character's return. A few good jokes as well, "we have Steve Jobs" loved it.
Craig, so far I have not seen one good argument against a female Doctor. It's always "it would be different" as if changing who the doctor is isn't something that the show has been doing since 1966 -_-
Jesus, stop fking complaining people, you call yourself fans but all you do is complain, it was a good episode, yeah missy being the master might of been a lil obvious but it doesnt make it shit. Moffat has done a good job. And you are supposed to have questions this is why it''s called a cliffhanger....
Ikr all these people can do is find ways of commenting how bad a writer Steven Moffat it it's sad really they clearly have attachment issues and can't accept change considering its a show based around that
I don't know why, but I find the date on the clapperboards so interesting! You can see how long they needed to film the episode and often I still know what I have been doing on the exact same day and somehow that fascinates me... And I just noticed that they filmed Afghanistan on my birthday! ...aaand they filmed at St. Paul's Cathedral 10 days before I visited it
I'm very miffed I wanted Missy to be the Eternal Death a future incarnation of Romana or a reimagined Black Guardian and originally the Master was intended to be female
For those of you complaing about how Moffat is a "awful writer" just stop. Technically we've had no full episode with this new master. The previous episodes she did nothing. And I am actually ashamed to be a fan when people are saying that she's going to suck because she's a women. The show is about change. We don't even know nearly half of the whole story until next week.
I saw that coming since the first episode, I mean come on the mistress = the master, you'd think a bit of originality, shoulda been the Rani as she was called MISTRESS RANI!!!
When she said the line about being abandoned/left, I really thought it would be Romana. Anyway, her being the Master was so obvious I think everyone thought it was too obvious and discarded the idea; I don't know if that's clever or lazy.
YEAH i thought ever one crazy who was the master i thought it was to obius and when she was to be reveled i said please don't the master please don't be the master then i was darn it moffant i thought maybe she was goning to be someone throum his past like someone throm the time war it would have ben intesting because we can see more john hurt it would show that he was a different person and it would have ben much better
I honestly don't get why people are saying that Moffat has ruined Doctor Who, I mean I get it if you didn't like the episode but he sure as hell didn't wreck the entire show. Keep in mind this was only the first part, we still have next weeks episode. We don't even know if she is the master, there has been a lot of theory's in the comments and such that she could just be making it up. I personally loved the episode, and if it is the master I'm really excited to see what she's gonna bring to the show tbh.
I kind of predicted that it was the master, not entirely surprised. The way Missy carried herself, how she had everything so intricately planned and the point where I confirmed it was when she treated the dead like how the master treated the " toclafane" (excuse the spelling) But what I'm truly TRULY excited about is what it means for Gallifrey.
I'm the only one here who thinks Moffat is a good writer because the comments are so hateful I'm confused But seriously I don't understand why everyone's whining I liked the episode and the concept of a female Master too
I agree. Stephen Moffat's writing has been superb overall this season. I think Missy/the Master was handled extremely well. Michelle Gomez was a brilliant choice for the master, and I think it is good that they are swapping genders. It can add good chemistry between the Doctor and Missy if done well.
Why do people consistently ignore the fact that regeneration is more than just a face change? Each Doctor is a different person, each Master is a different person. Remember 10's final episodes? He knew regeneration was essentially a death for him, that's why he was freaking out. Missy is a fine Master, because the Master isn't a character- they've got ideals, and that's about all they keep.
Yeah, Matt would've been more suitable for the bantering; Besides, with all the deliberate ridiculousness and such, this version really looks like she was concocted as a counterpart for the Eleventh than our current version, which, admittedly, the writers might have to get a hang of first; Thenext episode might still manage to squeeze out some "evil counterpart" juice out of this, or not.
I think (correct me if I'm wrong though, because in not sure) that they actually confirmed in a conversation between the Doctor and the Master that they weren't brothers back in 2007.
I don't think she is The Master. The comments she made about being "abandoned" and "left for dead" feel weird because The Doctor never abandoned him... her... (son of a bitch) he went back into the Time War totally of his own accord and that, to me, was his redemption, so I don't understand why she's evil again or how she escaped from Gallifrey. I think she's messing with The Doctor and there's still more yet to be revealed.
He didn't necessarily decide it, it was various things that made him just go for it. He knew the Doctor had stuck up for him in a huge way, trying to spare his life and risk his own (rather than shooting The Master). Meanwhile, he knew Rassilon was the reason for his torment. So, he fought Rassilon and the other Timelords back into the portal. I can only guess that he killed Rassilon and stole his regeneration energy somehow, and then returned as the Mistress - who seems to have a bit of an obsession with the Doctor and a bizarre love (this actually builds from the gay subtext RTD added to Simm and Tennant's incarnations) but she has grand ideas for power as usual and still loves playing games with the Doctor... Though, I'm not sure she's of the mind to want to kill The Doctor. Probably just misses the old days.
Everyone's so busy complaining about Moffat that they forgot how terrific Michelle Gomez was as the Master/Mistress/Missy.
I seriously have no complaints. Enjoyed the episode thoroughly!!
I really liked it too. CLARA HAS NEVER EXISTED. Has not been in the episode, because it is in the next episode :)
*****
Yes I know that. Kate Stewart and her assistant Osgood are also returning.
I am very much excited for the next episode.
Yeah, Michelle was amazing in this episode. I can't wait for next week.
LiveYourLife Hooray! A sane Doctor Who fan! Welcome to the club. I enjoyed the episode a lot, and when it got to Missy's reveal I had lost track of time and realized this was the end of Part 1.
TomWasAlone thankyou :-) Very excited for the next episode
Not being content with inducing phobias about stone angels, shadows, snowmen and Wi-fi, the writers of Doctor Who have gone and made Mary Poppins terrifying.
"I didn't know anyone died on Doctor Who"
Me: "HAHAHAHAH BEST JOKE EVER"
Someone should just have them say that then end it with a montage of the deaths of new who
Thought jack will have a few hundred
Still gonna funny
He lasted longer then I thought he would...
Am I the only one that doesn't mind Missy as The Master?
No. I really like her as the Mistress. Should i say Mistress or Master. One thing i am wondering. I am going to say Master right now. The Master said she CHOSE clara. What does that mean? and the part where clara says she NEVER EXISTED. is not in the episode :). I understand why they put the next clips of the episode, because we didnt get the next time trailer :)
no ...you are not the only one. People are unnecessarily exaggerating.
It was a superb episode.
Make like a vacuum cleaner and suck it up.
I agree
Pretty clever set up for the master, but it's still not the same as John Simm :(
Yea, OK.
Lmao try having the doctor as a female, people are acting like it's the end of the world
...while knowing full well that species swaps genders all the time, and still being cross about it. Michelle Gomez was a brilliant take; BANANAS
I never cared for the Master until Michelle Gomez's take. Granted the previous versions needed to happen to allow for such a story arc.
A Scottish Doctor, and a Scottish Master....er..Mistress. Perfect!
I suspect Missy is not The Master after all...
@@Saint_nobody lol
Michelle Gomez is perfection as Missy/The Mistress/The Master. Shes all kinds of evil Mary Poppins, and is somehow over the top and understated at the same time. I completely live for her performance.
samual anderson-"didn't know anyone got killed on doctor who"
whole whovian fandom - AHAHA oww you adorable little thing you haven't been watching doctor who for a long time have you?-_-
Mayesha Rahman XD
Hahaha that's what i was thinking xD
It's just bantaaa
He was saying it as a joke.
Was it just me or did you just not care when Danny died?
So the Master and the Doctor just kissed...
I guess Moffat ships The Master and The Doctor :D
Yup, it seems Moffat ships things as much as the fans do.
Any fan the ship master and doctor is crazy.
Blue Headphones Everyone has different views and opinions.
Best way to fuck with the Doctor's head.
just realized, Missy's co-worker was a Dr. Chang and the Masters companion in the TV Movie was called Chang Lee.
quite common name. but that would be REEEALLY cool
that would be very twisting if he's really chang lee, but (not to be racist) chang lee is chinese. Plus lee is already in the doctor's side
rafly r He's not that Chang I think the name was just a reference.
Yes I know that, I just saying that it would be twisting hahaha
rafly r ok then
I sincerely apologise to all the people i thought were mad when they theorised that Missy would be the Master...
What if this incarnation is the one before John Simm's version?
***** doubt she would lie a second time and she sounded like she told the truth
Steve Gittins She can't be. That was very clearly Professor YANA, because he regenerated into John Simm On-screen.
I doubt it's the incarnation before THAT either, as the Master explains in The Sound of Drums about him running away from the time war as if it was his first experience of it. And Missy clearly says "You left me to die" as if referring to The End of Time. But we'll see.
David Hill Noooooooooooooo!
There was a really convincing fan theory about how Missy was the dinosaur from Deep Breath
Michelle Gomez is absolutely brilliant as the Master! She brings out the evil in all of us fandomers, the craziness hiding inside. You guys know what I'm talking about, right?
So the 'Master' just kissed the Doctor. We're in for a treat.
I love Michelle gomez
I just have one question... what happened to the Drums?
I figure Missy started dancing to them.
The time lords fixed him when the master was on Gallifrey inbetween End of Time pt2 and TotD
I wanted to reply that she probably got over it ''Not mad, back, big surprise, never mind.'' but yeah, she definitely started dancing to the beat.
I miss Michelle Gomez being on Doctor Who...can we get Missy back...PLEASE!
Dear god.... my jawline is still hanging from that cliffhanger....
“I didn’t think anyone died in doctor who,”
Have… have you watched, doctor who?
I agree with you here.
Torchwholockian123 I was saying good things about the episode and I loved it so why should I stop watching it.
I was jumpin' up and down like: NO WAY!!!!! when they bust the missy being the master bit...
I love it. Bloody Brilliant if I do say so myself!
THIS WAS EPIC MY JAW WAS DROPPED
Brain in a melted state after this episode. Oh god. The beginning made me cry a little, the middle made me go, "Okay, so far, so good." The ending not only melted my brain, but my face was like The Doctor's. I was like "No. No way. Steven Moffat... Why this villain? Why now?"
I literally almost exploded at the reveal, I though she was the Rani at first, but the Master... Earth's Core will explode in 3...
Also, I commented on the Dark Water Trailer guessing that the cliffhanger would be Missy's reveal.
well it wasn't the cliffhanger
Calum Hart it was kinda, there was a few
Connor Clooney well the ending was with danny and the boy over him
Calum Hart i suppose
Calum Hart It was... Missy's reveal was the cliffhanger, next episode we'll see how it all plays out.
This was probably ones of the most ballsy episodes I've seen in a while. They killed off some great and loved characters.
TheActingVlog XD too good
Mater from Cars??? Cool.... betcha he had those tall tales with the Doctor.
She is the Master Mater...wait...crap... XD
the person who plays the master/missy in my opinion is brilliant and possibly one of my favourite characters on the show!
+ElevenMisrule but Missy has the Delgado ruthlessness totally down... It's the best!
John Simm _is_ the Master. Selina Gomez, hmm, not so much.
Missy: My heart is maintained by the Doctor..
The Doctor: Doctor Who?
Missy: DOCTOR CHAAANG!
Hah hah that always makes me laugh! 😂😂
*could have done
THE "DR CHANG" BIT ACTUALLY KILLED ME THO
'WHOAHAOHDA The Master was sent back to Gallifrey"
3 years later
"WELP!! The Master certainly won't make a return!!!!"
1 year later
"WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAT HE SHE BACK"
nope
I LOVE MISSY! The acting was spot on and the idea is great :D
"Oh please keep up"
To which a small part of me was hoping for her to do some dramatic flourish and go "im your best friend!
Also im pretty sure in time and the rani a quote from that was "You left me for dead"
I hope that somehow, the Rani and the Master are sharing the same body - I do hope so!
Why can't you guys just understand and see that SHE IS JUST THE MASTER???
Is SO hard to accept sex change?
Oh, humans...
You left me in the Matrix and now I’ve returned.”
That said, the Matrix did show up, so it’s possible the Valeyard could be seen in part 2.
That's hilarious! Samuel Anderson said he didn't think anyone died in Doctor Who!
"I didn't think anyone died in Doctor Who"? Either he's joking, or has never actually watched Doctor Who...
People have died in episode's that he is in, he is joking.
To be fair, main characters dying is rare at best.
Adric :'( I miss that brat.
"I didn't think anyone died in doctor who" 😂 he thought so very very wrong
omfg the master!!!! i miss john simm but wow i thought it was the rani, the thing I'm surprised about is that she said "you left me for dead" but in the end of time he sacrificed himself to stop gallifrey. missy also said it was her boyfriend so everyone start writing doctor/master/missy fanfics :P:P:P also who else felt really nostalgic when the cyber theme came on ! plz reply all your theories!:P
Just thought unless he expected 10 to save him bit that never happened
The Master has proboly blames the dr even though he isnt at fault
coolsomeXD yeah he is cray cray like that XD
I thought she was either Romana or the Rani but I never expecte the Master!
John Simm returned in such glorious fashion. I'm starting to suspect Missy was never truly The Master...
R.I.P Missy
Do you know why they made the Master female? Because people were complaining that the new Doctor wasn't female, so to keep those people happy, they made the Master regenerate into a woman.
Nothing. But it seems obvious Moffat did it to keep everyone happy.
It's probably not "random", exactly (The Doctor always winds up as a native british dude of moderate, but slightly flawed attractiveness), but it has been stated that it can go wrong and result in unusual results, or that some Time Lords can exert an amount of control If Romana could briefly consider making herself *blue*, I think the Master can probably decide to say, "Oh, let's go with boobs this time, I'll troll the Doctor SO hard."
Still, it feels like they're doing this just for the heck of it, not to advance the character in a meaningful way; This has the potential of being done SO wrong, but it doesn't have to be.
I think all you haters are ridiculous, the show has never said that the master can't be a woman and i think its one of the greatest story twists in 51 years
Are we just ignoring the fact that missy looks like Mary poppins and the "coincidence" that they filmed outside St. Paul's cathedral
321jharris yeah it makes more sense if she is the rani
Connor Clooney it might work but it should be the rani
I agree with both of you that she should have been the Rani but my God!! I got chills when I was proven right about who she was!!
321jharris yeah me too, how do you think that the sexualities work for time lords then I'm confused :P
Connor Clooney Oh God! Do we even want to go there??!?!! hahahaha it's gonna lead to some quite strange fan-fics though! :D
Missy is the master that is just awesome.
2:09 he didn't... he didn't think any one died... in Doctor Who?
Micheal Gomez was my favourite Master, and dam she is gorgeous and a phenomenal actor and I don’t care who knows.
THE ACTUAL MASTER... WTF!!!!!!!!!! I DIED WHEN I SAW IT!
My jaw dropped nearly needed a doctor to put it back on
Doctor Who17575 mine is still dropped!!!
***** ummm YESSSS! Have you not seen it yet!?
Did you go to the nethersphere?
Are you still dead? Can I have your stuff?
Wow.
So yeah i like this new master, come at me
Also i ment accept not except ugh. I only noticed that after i posted the comment. What is life
I'm not going to come at you because I agree! I thought it was a fabulous turn of events! Trouble is some people like to over-analyse everything, but as you said it was established in previous episodes that Time Lords can change gender! Y'know perhaps if all of us started to just enjoy the brilliance and fun of the show, we'd all like it!
visited st paul's one day before they started shooting. realised my mistake a few days later. i will never get over this.
Still trying to decide weather or not I like the new master. The episode had a several good moments. Hope they give a good reason for the character's return.
A few good jokes as well, "we have Steve Jobs" loved it.
I dont know if that steve jobs joke was in bad taste, but i giggled
I was just watching this and at that cliffhanger my brain turned to soup!
I am shocked. Very shocked. I saw it coming but I also didn't...
"I didn't think anyone died in Doctor Who"
You must be new here
If the master can regenerate into a girl, the doctor must be able to as well
He is.
Yes he can...
Even most female fans don't want The Doctor to regenerate into a woman.
Craig, so far I have not seen one good argument against a female Doctor. It's always "it would be different" as if changing who the doctor is isn't something that the show has been doing since 1966 -_-
Yep
I am currently having spasms of excitement.
"i didn't think anyone died in Doctor Who"
Fucking Steven "Everybody Lives" Moffat.
That intro was already the best ever.
Jesus, stop fking complaining people, you call yourself fans but all you do is complain, it was a good episode, yeah missy being the master might of been a lil obvious but it doesnt make it shit. Moffat has done a good job. And you are supposed to have questions this is why it''s called a cliffhanger....
Ikr all these people can do is find ways of commenting how bad a writer Steven Moffat it it's sad really they clearly have attachment issues and can't accept change considering its a show based around that
I think that because Doctor Who is known for good twists and turns, it's not too unreasonable to complain that something was a bit too obvious.
DOCTOR CHANGGG!!!! That bit gets me every time
Master is missy and the missy is the master,how...what.... He/she!!????? AGGHHHHHHHHH DANIEL.EXE HAS STOPPED WORKING
Daniel Booth XD
Let's use it for pronouns now. 'ey?
That red phone box is a TARDIS. Why else would the prop guys being moving into shot for the final scene of Dark Water? Exciting.
..........I'm still shocked.....................................
and now?
the mistress just might be my new favorite character
I really dont know how to take this...
Its ok take it easy
Already the best Master I've seen.
THE FEELS THO DAMN YOU BBC!!!
I saw that coming since the first episode, I mean come on the mistress = the master, you'd think a bit of originality, shoulda been the Rani as she was called MISTRESS RANI!!!
Mark White i thought it was the rani :P:P
Whyyyyyyyyyy that's really weird to think the master and the doctor had a snog
unless, it's _not_ The Master...
DO NOT GET RID OF MISSY!...I'm loving this character.
Oh crap! I owe people some money now.
Christa Huffine XD
I kind of predicted that it was the master, not entirely surprised. The way Missy carried herself, how she had everything so intricately planned and the point where I confirmed it was when she treated the dead like how the master treated the " toclafane" (excuse the spelling) But what I'm truly TRULY excited about is what it means for Gallifrey.
I'm the only one here who thinks Moffat is a good writer because the comments are so hateful I'm confused
But seriously I don't understand why everyone's whining I liked the episode and the concept of a female Master too
I agree. Stephen Moffat's writing has been superb overall this season. I think Missy/the Master was handled extremely well. Michelle Gomez was a brilliant choice for the master, and I think it is good that they are swapping genders. It can add good chemistry between the Doctor and Missy if done well.
Yep. The reveal was great, and I found the idea brilliant. We just have to put up with the fact that whovians are allergic to consensus ;)
Steven Moffat's show running has been MUCH better this season.
I actually loved this episode it took me all this season but all I wanna do is hug capaldi
We all saw it
Why !!!!!! Why is he a girl noooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!
aidan Price master more suits the doen in the dumps man look guess we have to roll with it
The name just gave it away
Exactly
Why do people consistently ignore the fact that regeneration is more than just a face change? Each Doctor is a different person, each Master is a different person. Remember 10's final episodes? He knew regeneration was essentially a death for him, that's why he was freaking out.
Missy is a fine Master, because the Master isn't a character- they've got ideals, and that's about all they keep.
The master wouldve been useful during the 11th doctor area
ReallyAverageJoe ikr, just imagine the fanfic :P
Yeah, Matt would've been more suitable for the bantering; Besides, with all the deliberate ridiculousness and such, this version really looks like she was concocted as a counterpart for the Eleventh than our current version, which, admittedly, the writers might have to get a hang of first; Thenext episode might still manage to squeeze out some "evil counterpart" juice out of this, or not.
Hahahahah, DAT kiss though!
LOVED IT. :)
The Master had a sex change? I mean, I'm not gonna judge but... this brings a whole new term to Free Willy.
(Sorry, it was right there!)
Smashed Videos XD
omg 1:13 Rory cam? From the episode The Girl Who Waited?
NO! But I always saw The Master as The Doctor's brother!
You can now see Him/Her as the Doctor's Sister!
BUT SHE KISSED HIM! With tongue! Ew! :O :')
Yeah, you can see her as his sister... That he hates and snogs.
But she called The Doctor her boyfriend.

Please can she not be the master
Maybe she/he just finally lost it... If she/he hadn't before!
after this last finale, I think you're right. perhaps Missy is Me?
Lol
