I cannot think of another baritone who could sing Ombra Mai Fu without producing an abomination. Only Hvorostovsky succeeded with this aria in such a low register, and, OH MY!!!, what a success! Thanks to modern recording technology people will be able to marvel at this wonder for as long as the human race can survive.
The man is dead, but his talent will live forever. This is one of the exceptionally rare examples of modern media serving the nec plus ultra of our culture well. I am eternally grateful to frufurJ for putting it here on RUclips.

But the moment he heard Dmitri's voice, and even more, how eh interpreted the song, he said he was ready to be the first to sign up to his fan club. He knew in his heart Dima would win.

Thank God we live in an age where we can still listen to voices like his, even if he's no longer with us. Such a tragedy to lose him at such a young age. What a voice - what a man and so much missed. I was never lucky enough to see him live, but I treasure these recordings.

Totally agree with Paoli and Margaret we will never have another Dima y was and is UNIQUE. Very lucky we were able to listening his beautiful voice and to see him in videos. I think very often about his beautiful family I hope everybody is fine.

Fritz Wunderlich is a tenor, so it's difficult to compare but anyway F.W. is great, I put him in the neighbourhood of Jussi Björling; such a terrible pity and bad luck he died so young.
