It is a consolation to be able to see and hear Dmitri in these videos, but he will always be sadly missed by his fans. He was a great baritone.

Nádherná hudba, árie zazpívaná tím nejkrásnějším hlasem, prostě božské. Poznala jsem tohoto umělce až po jeho skonu, nikdy mě nepřestane mrzet, že jsem neměla možnost slyšet ho naživo. Děkuju za všechnu hudbu, kterou můžu sledovat alespoň ze záznamu. Díky všem, kteří to umožňují. Někdo takový jako Dimitrij se musel narodit v Rusku, jinde by to nebylo možné. Nikoho podobného za svůj dlouhý život jsem nepoznala, člověka s tak širokou, krásnou a milující duší a srdcem. Děkuji. Minehava

Very impressive. He sang almost the entire aria at the high end of his range. Must have been exhausting!
This aria has passed from the narrow confines of its original theatrical setting. It is the universal pathos and tender grief felt by a young man who has lost his dear lover. Many of us have endured such grief and Hvorostovsky has expressed it so tenderly and so beautifully as to make it a universal song of longing and sadness. Yes, everyone knows that Gluck gave this aria to the countertenor. We are so, so overwhelmingly impressed that. You have the arrogance to pretend it is some recondite point of great significance. It is not. Some of you need to get out your pedantic classrooms and listen to the universal beauty of music wonderfully wrought.

I have to speak up for the mezzos here. Mezzos have been singing this part for a long time & doing a terrific job with it including the Berlioz rewriting. But I love the countertenors (Andreas Scholl) & I admire this rendition by Dmitri.

I prefer to have men sing men's parts. It's a much more realistic dynamic of emotion. On the other hand, this is a concert version, which takes it out of it's context of dramatic pathos. Still, it is quite beautiful. Thank you for this.

Gluck's opera sung by a real male voice (and what a voice!) at last! It has a completely different feel, compared to the contralto, more credible, more dramatic. Bravo, Dima, we miss you more than ever.

Quanta discussão estéril. Saber qual o tipo de voz de Dmitri, é só olhar na net. Idem sobre o nascimento de Gluck ou como ele escreveu. Se não gosta, pode sair daqui rapidinho. Nós que gostamos ficamos no amor por Dmitri até a eternidade.

Non avevo mai sentito questa aria e trovo che Dimitri Horostowskj la interpreti a meraviglia.
Però leggo che qualche melomane ritiene che la sua voce non rientri tra quelle previste dall'autore, ma su questo ci sono pareri contrastanti.
Comunque a me interessa l'emozione che mi procura.
Bravissimo Dimitri purtroppo scomparso così presto.

A quei tempi il barocco fondava vere e proprie scuole per i castrati e molti ebbero fama internazionale. A Napoli vi erano scuole famose -leggi La Pietà dei Turchini che accoglieva orfani a ciò destinati, per non dire poi della chiesa che li evirava per essere degni della Cappella Sistina! Per fortuna erano altri tempi! Il compiantissimo Dima ancora fa scoppiare le ovaie a tante sue ammiratrici.!.

Wondeful with male singer, because the personage in opera is male too and in original the personage is castrati and today many mezzo-sopran oder contralto sing too, but for me I like male singer interpretacion in Orpheu is very original and natural in my idea and conception too.
