It's fantastic that you're giving this game some much needed attention. I played this game heaps with a friend who was looking around for Monster Hunter-like games. We both fell in love everything about this game like the story, the characters, the lore and of course the gameplay and were both heartbroken that it was just nowhere near as popular as we thought it should be. So thank you for playing it, and thank you for sharing this diamond of a game.
I loved this game and the feels that you get hit with shame it didn't get a sequel or a port imagine if it was ported or even remade for the ps4 or ps5
It makes me wanna cry because I miss this game so much! It’s my favorite game next to conquer live and reloaded. Please bring this game back! Satisfy my craving.
I love this game. The story was amazing and the way it was told was fantastic! The lore was also amazing. It’s the only game I have ever platinum. Thank you so much for sharing! I hope we will se this title given another chance in the future.
I never really had a "build" when playing. I just picked spells that I liked/ found useful. There really wasn't anything online in terms of guides. Honestly, the vita is one of those console whose library is "quality over quantity". Vita may have only a few good games but damn are they good.
Honestly, despite all the memes, the Vita's library is about equal to the 3DS' in terms of both quality and quantity. Sure, it has less pure exclusives, but conversely it had a ton of games that could only be played portably on the Vita (though since of them are being ported to the Switch nowadays) and a lot less shovelware (because it just want as profitable to put it on the significantly less popular Vita).
This, This, A Thousand Million Times, This. Soul Sacrifice was a jewel for the Vita, along side Gravity Rush. They need to bring this back. Now. Games like this don't exist anymore.
Man gaijin I didn't think that you had this kind of way of talking and explaining something that you liked. I'll admit that I followed you for monster hunter and now I'm grateful to be subscribed and realized that there is muvh more than mh Great video!
Just today I happened to revisit your channel to see what new stuff you might have uploaded, and to see you cover Soul Sacrifice Delta just completely floored me, in a good way! I remember discovering SSD a few years ago and just falling in love with it even though I did not and could not own it. It was a diamond of its time, and I was blessed to be gifted a PS TV by my friend because he wanted me to play some Hyperdimension Neptunia games. I took that as an opportunity to seek out a physical copy of SSD and buy it for myself for my birthday, and I am so glad I did. The depth of the lore and the amazing storytelling that can even make you cry is supplemented well by the fleshed out spell casting system, down to its incredible synergies. I was personally a huge fan of combining Arboreals as well as using Armors + Shields offensively. There was such a high mechanical and skill ceiling with managing the charges of these skills during combat as well as actually applying them. I would gladly buy it again for the Switch and even the PC if they happen to port it to them successfully.
I've been listening to you and Rurikhan talking about this game and I dusted my old Vita to play it. I've only done the tutorial and I'm not hooked yet, but I'll definitely will put more time into it only because your passion is contagious :)
It gets really good. I remember that I wasn't super thrilled by some of the early spells and how I had to keep doing things out of my comfort zone because the spells just weren't available, but once you get past, like, the first introduction of each type and they start giving you the elemental variants of the basic spells, you'll have enough catalysts to finally play how you want (which for me was, like, 3 different melee weapons and support then just roll and stabbing like MH since I'm bad at aiming or being creative and my greatest bane was running out of catalysts)
My favorite MonHun like ever made. Even above MonHun itself which creates the sub genre of action rpg. I'll never forgive $ony for killing this series.
I got this game around the time delta was new with a used vita, during one of the hardest parts of my life. I never regretted it. It got me through some hard times and is absolutely a joy to experience, so I'm very glad to see you pushing so hard for it to receive the attention it deserves!
This is the most influential story in my life, I adopted the sacrifice philosophy deep in my heart. And every time I'm having a bad time I go back to this game, for the beautiful message it holds... Hope in a dire situation.
Since watching your playthrough (of the first few acts because I'm going through it also.) you've given me a completely new appreciation for this game.
Thank you, GH for making the game known to the hunting community. This was my "hunting" game aside from Freedom Wars and Toukiden when Monster Hunter jumped over to Nintendo. So let's hope the old timers and rookie hunters give this game a chance, and they find a pleasant experience playing this game. 😊
Thank you so much for covering this, it's one of my most favorite games ever and the one I consider to be the greatest on the Vita - already a lovely system full of hidden or lesser known gems. I hope this results in a lot of renewed interest.
Hearing you and Ruri speak so highly of this game on the podcast, it convinced me I needed to give it a shot. So I went ahead and bought a used Playstation TV and the game. Only a few hours in, but I'm really liking it so far! So thank you Gaijin and Ruri, would never have heard of this game otherwise!
Its very possible. There was many comments asking for soul sacrifice. A bunch of news articles were made about the request for soul sacrifice that day that game was announced. I believe that buzz definitely didn't go unnotice
i loved this game during the time it came out. the narrative and side stories were amazing and engaged me so much to a point where i fell in love with dark stories
2nd time I'm saying this in all your videos but this is definitely my favourite MH-type game. Story had me in tears at all sorts of times. Even spent time reading some of the stories to friends that didn't play games because the story is so amazing. Very happy you discovered this!
Man the Monster Design was so beautiful and the Farytail like Backstorys of each Monster added so much that influenced your decision If you either sacrefice or save a Monster, if you deem the Person underneath it worthy or Not, such a unique Gameplay Element. This Game has so much Potential to become a next gen Entry
Gonna use a little of the game´s language here, but it gives warm to my heart that you found this hidden fountain of emotions made form into a game, no wonder why you like it, literally not only the game play takes his name from the gameplay but also the efforts put into de music/art/story , and surely it leaves a mark in the soul of every gamer who really felt Librom´s struggle, SSD helped me to understand that no struggle in life is big enough if you´re willing to sacrifice something in order to go through a difficult situation, I'm So glad that my favorite Monster Hunter Sensei likes this game also!, hopefully ya'll can upvote this so Gaijin can see it!,
"it may have taken seven years and some help from Rurikhan, but I have found the grail" I know a book that can tell you about why that is a terrible idea.
You have definitely played a role in helping Monster Hunter achieve the success it has now so.. never know what other niche titles might get enough attention. I can't wait to finish this video tomorrow. it's exciting delving into worlds/stories I have no idea about
Man Everytime I listen about this game and music MANY feeling and tiers come to my eyes and I can't expressa how I much I love this game and really wanted it to be remastered, thank you for this video
The art style is gorgeous, I've never heard of this game before you mentioned it and I must say I'm intrigued, I really want to give it a try but in the mean time I wouldn't mind watching a playthrough of this game on your channel.
When Gravity Rush was adapted from Vita to PS4 I'd always hoped Soul Sacrifice would follow. It's such a fantastic series that is a shame to die in obscurity.
This was a fantastic a game! Loved the different endings of each boss monster based on your option, and how the story for common fairy tales and mythical lores gets such a unique twist to their story and monster design (and of course the attack you gain from it)
I have played Soul Sacrifice Delta since it's release and to this day I believe it to be the best story in a game I've ever experience by a large margin. So glad to see you guys covering this!
I was so hyped for the game's release back in 2013, especially since I thought it'd scratch that MH itch and I wasn't really that excited about the 3DS. Sadly that was the original and I didn't really get into it all that much, before getting distracted by other games (like GTA5) and not coming back to it. I had no idea that Delta improved it so much, I thought it was very much equivalent to a typical G-Rank expansion for MH back then. This makes me curious to check it out again, so thanks! Also reminds me of how disappointed I was that Ruin (Warrior's Lair) was cancelled, the Vita really got robbed.
You know... I would've bought this game if 1. I had a vita, and 2. there was any marketing done for it at all. The design style is right up my alley. Reminds me of a more grungy, fantasy God Eater.
There was some marketing. They have made an anime trailer for SSD and have crossover event monsters from God Eater, Toukiden, and Freedom Wars. (Not too sure about the last one but the first two I know for sure)
Oh nice, they would fit right in there. I just remember the Vita having some of the worst marketing. I was going to get one but I ultimately decided to just buy a PS4 Pro instead, lol.
@@Lorkynn yeah... Sony REALLY dropped the ball with the Vita. Constant patches only to get rid of cracks. People were just trying to breathe some life into the Vita like with the PSP and Sony pulled the trigger...
@@PaladinfffLeeroy It really did have some potential, but it was never given the chance by Sony. I think the biggest killing blow to the vita was how expensive the hardware was.
Yea, I saw this title at the end of my day and said "I'll watch first thing when I wake up." Then a week later I realized I forgot- and came right back over here because of the polite title and a pleasant speaker. Content wise- I like this, I like this idea concept a lot. Shame its not more mainstream.
I didn't think I'd be seeing you make a video about Soul Sacrifice in the year 2021 but man am I glad. This game was absolutely phenomenal, the gameplay, the art, the music and especially the story telling all of which I remember vividly. Truly a beautifully cut gem that everyone missed all because Sony dropped the ball on the vita. Nonetheless I'm glad you found it after all these years and enjoyed it cause man is it a blast to play through. I would also not be against you uploading a play through of this game just to relive it, hell I would encourage it. With all that said, since you are on the vita I would highly recommend you try out Freedom Wars. Think Attack on Titan in a distopian future where cities around the world are competing for resources and fighting giant machines. Unfortunately for this game it wasn't complete and the story ends at the seemingly mid way point and the content isn't up to the entry standard for these type of "monster hunter" games but God damn if the gameplay doesn't hard carry it to hell and back. While I enjoyed SS more over all, I never had as much fun playing SS as I did Freedom Wars. Freedom wars did MHW's clutch claw first and better. I highly recommend this game.
This games message is not one that is viewed through Rose tinted glasses. If anything, this games calling get stronger with time. I played this game when it first game out. Both Soul Sacrifice and Soul Sacrifoce Delta. Now almost 8 years later I pulled it out of storage because the longing in my heart to experience it again came knocking. In truth it has been knocking for awhile but I could not recall its name. But now that I have it again, the tears won't stop. This is a game that was crafted from the heart. It touches upon things we refuse to acknowledge and helps us heal. Thank you for bringing this game back into the light. One day I hope to see it out on shelves again. Not locked away. behind the PS Vita gathering dust
Honestly the number one thing that really hooked me on this game was the writing. As a huge Yoko Taro fan, I am willing to play through any game, no matter how great or awful, if the writing is gripping, and while the combat in SSD felt a little too barebones for me, I loved reading the backstories of all the monsters. The first one I read was that of the Succubus and it *really* gave me Yoko Taro vibes, how so much lore had be written about a single enemy that some may just kill and move on and never think about again. It’s the attention to detail in the writing that I really came to love.
So glad that the Vita is having a resurgence right now, and videos like this will only help it. Hopefully this game gets a remake/remaster for a newer console so that more people can enjoy it, but I'm definitely going to be picking it up on my Vita really soon
Ah yes it was an amazing game. I managed to get strong enough to kill one of the twin gods but since i was playing solo i never managed to get the other before i died or ran out of power for my weapons. Shame it didnt get more attention.
So glad to see Soul Sacrifice getting a piece of spotlight, I was one of the Vita's early adopters ad considered buying it after playing a demo, but I forgot about it because of my ADHD and also Wipeout 2049 and MH Freedom Unite, and that was one of my biggest regrets at that time. But I still have my Vita, I may give it a shot again, thanks a lot for reminding me of this Gaijin!
This game is amazing. They need to make a sequel that has online so I can play with other people. I played this before monster hunter and I was so hooked. I'm glad to see someone with so much experience in these type of games give it some praise.
This was one of the first games I bought when I got my Vita all those years ago thanks to none other than Epic Name Bro who was also talking about it at the time. Such an underrated game, I really hope it gets a second lease on life on the Switch or something.
I honestly thought I was the only person who actually played this game. When I first saw and played it, as much as I liked it, I knew that it wouldn't see the same amount of success as Monster Hunter, especially given how dead on arrival the Vita was given Sony's treatment of the platform. I really want Soul Sacrifice to have at least an HD Remaster in the future because this game has a lot going for it, and it would be a shame to have it lost in the annals of gaming history.
My favorite game has gone that route, even though we are a dedicated few players still making it to where we have around 10 people online each day. (we have an unofficial discord, and a global in-game text channel) Released in 2012, dead in 2017, "The Secret World" for pc. This game seems like another game worth keeping alive.
@@Itachigan22 is*! Granted, pvp is a little stunted with the lack of a big enough player base, everything else is still actively run as far as group content. Wish I had a vita to test this one out. We both fell in love everything about this game like the story, the characters, the lore and of course the gameplay and were both heartbroken that it was just nowhere near as popular as we thought it should be. So thank you for playing it, and thank you for sharing this diamond of a game.
I was very young when I played it so I didn't know what to do and just punched things. I wish I could play it today with the knowledge I had now
I loved this game and the feels that you get hit with shame it didn't get a sequel or a port imagine if it was ported or even remade for the ps4 or ps5
The gamefaqs board was a good place to visit
This, This, A Thousand Million Times, This. Soul Sacrifice was a jewel for the Vita, along side Gravity Rush. They need to bring this back. Now. Games like this don't exist anymore.
Soul Sacrifice and Delta forever forsaken considering it's so unique.
So murdered this unique new idea in cold blood.
I would 100% watch a full play through of this game
Ditto, especially for Spooky Month.
*HellRay* „spooktober“
It's better to play there's actually alot of literal reading and item reading.
Man gaijin I didn't think that you had this kind of way of talking and explaining something that you liked. I'll admit that I followed you for monster hunter and now I'm grateful to be subscribed and realized that there is muvh more than mh
Great video!
I mean you said "please" so I gotta watch
What a fantastic video man will u consider doing Freedom wars, while not as good it was still such a cool game
Soul Sacrifice? Yes, spread the word! More people need to see this amazing and beautifully sad story
Oh man, Soul Sacrifice is a fantastic time. I stayed up way too late for many nights just reading the lore, let alone playing the game itself
This game was literally a chunk of my childhood, my favorite game of all time. It’s got flaws but I think it would easily be popular these days.
"Gee thanks Sony" had me laughing hard
Freedom wars is getting remastered hopefully that means there is hope for soul sacrifice Delta
Its very possible. There was many comments asking for soul sacrifice. A bunch of news articles were made about the request for soul sacrifice that day that game was announced. I believe that buzz definitely didn't go unnotice
Hopeium levels have increased
i loved this game during the time it came out. the narrative and side stories were amazing and engaged me so much to a point where i fell in love with dark stories
2nd time I'm saying this in all your videos but this is definitely my favourite MH-type game. Story had me in tears at all sorts of times. Even spent time reading some of the stories to friends that didn't play games because the story is so amazing. Very happy you discovered this!
Adore this game. I pray we get a bigger console release of the franchise one day
Man the Monster Design was so beautiful and the Farytail like Backstorys of each Monster added so much that influenced your decision If you either sacrefice or save a Monster, if you deem the Person underneath it worthy or Not, such a unique Gameplay Element. This Game has so much Potential to become a next gen Entry
This game looks so sick, in gameplay, lore, music, holy shit! this has the makings of an amazing game franchise.
Gonna use a little of the game´s language here, but it gives warm to my heart that you found this hidden fountain of emotions made form into a game, no wonder why you like it, literally not only the game play takes his name from the gameplay but also the efforts put into de music/art/story , and surely it leaves a mark in the soul of every gamer who really felt Librom´s struggle, SSD helped me to understand that no struggle in life is big enough if you´re willing to sacrifice something in order to go through a difficult situation, I'm So glad that my favorite Monster Hunter Sensei likes this game also!, hopefully ya'll can upvote this so Gaijin can see it!,
2:18 such a wholesome Ruri photo
I would love a modern remake/sequel so hard
I play this for the nostalgia. My PsVita is already broken due to overuse, but I have the vita3k emulator to replace it.
Man, I'm so glad you're giving this game the love it deserves. I hope a bunch of people who watched this decided to pick up the game.
"it may have taken seven years and some help from Rurikhan, but I have found the grail"
I know a book that can tell you about why that is a terrible idea.
Lol!
You have definitely played a role in helping Monster Hunter achieve the success it has now so.. never know what other niche titles might get enough attention.
I can't wait to finish this video tomorrow. it's exciting delving into worlds/stories I have no idea about
Would love to play this game on newer hardware!
Both games are fucking goated. I love them so much.
Man, Freedom Wars getting a remaster but not this....
Let's hope we can get this eventually
@@AlexPerez-tt9ru it's very possible we will get it. Freedom wars comfirms the recent shift towards a new reality.
Man Everytime I listen about this game and music MANY feeling and tiers come to my eyes and I can't expressa how I much I love this game and really wanted it to be remastered, thank you for this video
The art style is gorgeous, I've never heard of this game before you mentioned it and I must say I'm intrigued, I really want to give it a try but in the mean time I wouldn't mind watching a playthrough of this game on your channel.
if they release a modernized version for ps5/pc it'd be one of the most popular games ever so thank you for spotlighting it
I’m going watch it just for you Gaijin.
So glad to see you guys covering this!
holy god if they release this to steam i will buy it. if freedom wars can so does this one.
God I love how the storytelling and presentation and atmosphere of this game so much!
Just picked this up a few weeks ago and have been having a blast with it
No, god eater is trash, SSD is not.
I really really love the lore of the monsters in this game, like i can spend hour sometimes just reading them up in the wiki
Not locked away. behind the PS Vita gathering dust
they released a "sequel" but it's on Quest 2 and PSVR2.
What is it called?
@@yamnbam4346 Soul Covenant VR
@@yamnbam4346 Soul Covenant VR is the game.
That there will never be a sequel or remaster of this game still breaks my heart. What an absolute gem
Same, if this game got ported on the ps4 or even the ps5 I wouldn't mind getting it at all
My favorite game has gone that route, even though we are a dedicated few players still making it to where we have around 10 people online each day.
(we have an unofficial discord, and a global in-game text channel)
Released in 2012, dead in 2017, "The Secret World" for pc.
This game seems like another game worth keeping alive.
@@Sarugakil0l I remember The Secret World. That was a good game.
@@Itachigan22 is*!
Granted, pvp is a little stunted with the lack of a big enough player base, everything else is still actively run as far as group content.
Wish I had a vita to test this one out.
I remember 2010-11 wanting a vita bad, but decided on the 3ds for ocarina of time.
Oh if I only knew :D
The lore was absolutely amazing, I love the world they created and it's a shame we won't get a chance to explore more of it.
As soon adds you two started taking about SSD it reminded me of my Vita and my time with SS. Didn't waste anytime and got SSD. Haven't regretted it and loving every minute of it. To the Grim~
