  • The underground area of Chasm has one of the most unique enemy types we have seen so far, and not just that, but they have unique names and grant a special item every time you defeat them, the "Orb of the Blue Depths". Defeating all nine of these opponents grants us a chance to explore a mysterious secret "Mysterious Letter" hidden in Chasm, that can reveal some new characters and might hint to future archon names and some abyss characters. I hope you enjoy the video :D

12:20 Correction: Pegasus is a mythical creature and not a person as I've stated in the video. It is still interesting that the writer knows about this creature, did it exist in Teyvat before? or is it an imaginary creature?

Well "Pegasus" is a character on Yu-Gi-Oh! a very important one also.

Fun fact: The Black Serpent Knights are named after characters from the book Eaters of the Dead and its movie adaptation, The 13th Warrior! It’s been about a decade but we read and watched it in high school and I immediately recognized the name Buliwyf. The character Buliwyf is based on Beowulf from the old epic. The "Mysterious Letter" is based on poem Catullus 58b (by Catullus) with Genshin twists. In both these writings the writers are tirelessly searching for their friends. The writer of the letter is searching for their friend, and the irl poet Catullus is searching for his friend Camerius.
One notable change is the line "quos iunctos amica mea mihi dicares" in the letter. In the original poem, the line is "quos iunctos Cameri mihi dicares", which was obviously referring to Camerius. "amica mea", on the other hand, just means "my friend" or "friend" but feminine. It is implied that the "friend" referred to in this letter is a woman. If it was a man, the writer likely would have used "amice".
If this is true, then the woman the letter referred to could be this Tenebra woman in the "Crede Tenebrae" achievement, which makes sense.
Also all of this is CMIIW y'all, I don't know much about latin language

...Why is Venti literally everywhere? He's my favorite character in Genshin Impact and I just love him BUT he is so sus and connected to everything. The whole god of time thing, with him and the god of time both being worshipped but then the god of time mysteriously disappearing from history and being forgotten, the destruction of Khaenri'ah and it being unclear whether he was there or not, every theorist saying he will be important in the story later on, the base of his statue reading something similar to "Gateway to Celestia", Venti saying in his voicelines that he wouldn't go to Celestia even if he were invited (combined with the end of the Genshin manga prologue where it looks like Celestia is a prison after Vennessa "ascends" to Celestia), being mentioned in so many parts of the lore, and I'm sure there's something I'm missing. Oh, and him saying in the recent Irodori Festival, True Tales of the Violet Garden Part II, something like "Everyone has something they do not wish others to know." That automatically includes him. What is he hiding?

So something interesting I’ve noticed about the dark mud/abyssal corruption goop is that if you return to the upside down city and the area where the abyss twin left those flowers after the quest, the hilichurls are gone. The only thing left behind is puddles of dark mud and a few hilichurl masks you can pick up. My personal theory is that when while they can’t die, when the hilichurls minds become too eroded they completely lose their physical forms, instead becoming the black mud all over the chasm. It would explain why those who interact with the mud seem to see memories/visions as those could be the memories of those who succumbed to the curse.

    REALLY LONG TEXT/THEORY AHEAD
I think the Celestia of old isn't the same Celestia as nowadays, or might even be a creation of the Second Throne after the primordial one (Phanes) got defeated and his shades brought into submission.
It would explain why the ruins, and the pool of water, have this soothing effect on the people affected by the curse, since they're from a time before Celestia (as stated in another video), a time when the primordial one was reigning over a unified civilization.
If the primordial one was still in charge and ruling over Teyvat and Celestia, it would make no sense for the ruins to be disconnected from Celestia while having this soothing effect on the curse.
This means that the primordial one was a loving God (as shown by one of his shades, the God of Time, in Enkanomya, who took pity on the people of Enkanomya and their unjust treatment by the Second Who Came), whereas the new Celestia, ruled by the Second Who Came, eons ago, got rid of the primordial one and despises humanity, wanting to control everyone by using Archons and visions as a means to control the elements.
It also makes sense that such a hateful God would start a war, spreading calamity and destruction all over the world, to determine who'd inherit the privilege to control an element (Archon Wars).
I don't see the primordial one doing something like this, since humans all over Teyvat would be negatively impacted by the scale of such a war.
The elements may have existed during the primordial one's rule as well, but were used by humanity as a whole to advance the species, not by a few select gods and vision bearers.
Remember that visions are actually used by Celestia to spy on certain humans with great ambitions, with the ones showing too much potential being invited up to Celestia and taken away to jail (one preview of Celesita looked like a panopticon, a special type of jail).
The abyss might actually be the kingdom of light like I saw mentioned somewhere else, aka. the remnants of the primordial one's power, with Celesita being the kingdom of the false "demonic ruler" that killed the primordial one and turned Teyvat upside down.
You actually travel upwards while in the Abyss spire and the new chasm city is also upside down itself, which could be a huge hint towards the evil Celestia theory and could show us the scale of the destruction that followed the conflict between the Primordial One and the Second Who came, eons ago.
Also, don't forget that all the Archons we met up until now gave up their gnosis willingly, which means they probably know more than they told us and bear a grudge towards the current gods of Celestia.
And remember Sal Vindagnyr, the civilisation at the top of Dragonspire.
They were treated with love and respect from Celestia before getting utterly destroyed out of seemingly nowhere.
A change of management in Celestia itself could explain this, with the Second Who Came hunting down and destroying any civilisation remembering the gentle rule of the primordial one.
Now, what did Kaenri'ah do to justify its destruction by Celestia?
Maybe they got too close to the truth of what happened between the Second Who Came and the primordial one, delving into forbidden Abyssal knowledge and thus making Celestia angry, the Second Who Came maybe being afraid of being overthrown.
After all, orobashi had to die because he learned the truth in Enkanomya.
This also makes sense knowing the Abyssal Order's plan to overthrow Celestia using an artifical God.
So, imo, the abyssal twin woke up first, traveled around in Teyvat before settling in Kaenri'ah, where he/she learned the truth about this world.
Celestia launches an attack, the twins try to flee, are stopped by the unknown God because one of the twins has forbidden knowledge, and the rest is history.
I do think the Abyssal twin had their journey with Dain before the cataclysm, with them discovering the truth at the end of it.
The traveller will eventually discover it as well at the end of his own journey.
I don't think the Abyssal order will remain our enemies at the end of the game, they can't, since it's common knowledge that the fall of Celestia is the ultimate goal of the game, which incidentally, is also the Abyssal Order's goal.
And since the Fatui, under the cryo Archon's rule, are also trying to rebel against Celestia, I don't think they'll be our enemies towards the end of the game either.
Regarding what happened in Inazuma and the whole timeline/time travel shenanigans, I think Celestia overdid it when they punished Kaenri'ah for getting too close to the truth, releasing monsters everywhere on the world.
Remember that not everyone in the abyss is evil, since it may be the kingdom of light, as shown by Childe's mentor, which means that the monsters which attacked Inazuma might be a creation from Celestia.
This lead to them having to correct their mistake with time travel and timeline change with the help of the previous electro Archon.
My two cents regarding Genshin's complex lore.
Obviously it's only theories, but it's what makes the most sense to me for now.

      @pf333 2 года назад +32

@@4g3nt06 Maybe yeah, in the end we're still not 100% sure about what really happened back then.
The part when the current "new" iteration of Celestia released the monsters is a shaky theory at best.
It's just what made the most sense with the previous part of my theory, with the Abyss being the remnants of the Primordial One and people existing in the Abyss who are not evil (Childe's mentor).
Why would the remnants of a loving God release monsters upon humanity?
      Resentment?
Did he turn evil after being defeated?
Who knows, that's also a possibility.
Most of this lore is hidden behind DLC content (Chasm, Enkanomya) which makes me believe future Archon quests will touch upon those subjects.
In the end, maybe I'm over thinking all of this and the truth is much simpler.

I do find that theory about changing time in Inazuma as a means to fix a mistake by Celestia.. somewhat confusing
Now we know nothing about Istaroth personally, but it is assumed that she's one of the Primordial One's 4 shimmering shades, so if this holds ground, it sounds much more likely that she would've helped Baal/Makoto change the timeline for the benefit of the people and perhaps even for Beelzebul/Ei. But doing it for the benefit of Celestia? Knowing that they took away the throne of the heavens that rightfully belonged to the primordial one and the four shades?
They'd robbed her of her position and power, turning the world and civilisation that she helped to create upside down.
If Istaroth really is one of the shimmering shades, and the Celestia now really is ruled by the second who came, then it seems likely to me that she would have ill feelings toward them. But maybe that's just me

The letter talks about being "outfitted as that guardian of Khaenri'ah", "to soar like a Pegasus", something as if being swift like Morphes, "feather footed and the winged", and finally "call for the swiftness of the winds". A lot of winged/flying imagery, but the first line could also be referring to being outfitted in either weapons or armor similar to the Khaenri'ahn Guardian. MiHoYo is also no stranger to using the term already, hence the word Valkyrie being used in HI3 for the playable characters.

I find it weird that in the second line, the writer muse himself not to be a destructive self that were made to be the lyre of Barbartos.
Judging from what we know about Venti so far, it is hard to imprint on him bringing destruction and etc
Only two events that came close to the concept of destruction: When he band together with the nameless bard and Amos to overthrow Decarabian, becoming the Anemo Archon. And when he assisted Vennessa in destroying the aristocracy.
Since this letter is from a period after Barbartos take the seat of the Seven, it is highly possible that the society where the writer resides deem certain aspect of Barbartos as destructive, and possibly dangerous to their way of life instead.
Barbartos is the god of freedom, and from what we can see of Venti, he doesn't interfere with many things and only really take action when things are beyond the control of mortals. (Abit, not by choice as he was sleeping, see Cataclysm). If we were to take his belief in freedom at face value, where everyone is free to do whatever the heck they want, then this is truly a concept of "destructive".
According to his friendship level 4 story, after he took over as Anemo Archon for 1600 years, Mondstadt's freedom has sunk to an all time low due to the aristocracy. The story is hinting that due to overflow of freedom, those with power become the oppressor as they have more "rights" to freedom as no one is judging them. Indirectly, it is hinting that too much of something good will eventually become bad, and what order that exist to begin with will become chaotic and destructive.
It is possible that at the time this letter was written, the society which the writer belongs to, despise Barbartos for his way of ruling his subjects. If this theory holds some ground in later patches, then this society most likely have a strict hierarchy or a way of life where order is absolute.
For the time being, it seems the letter was written by someone from Khaenri'ah and directed to a friend, after witnessing the cataclysm. So if Khaenri'ah is a society where order is valued above all, then it will be agreeable that they naturally become antagonistic towards Barbartos and why they stole the statue in the first place.

From my understanding of the statement, the writer is musing that his destructive tendency is not as free as the lyre of Barbartos, so basically he is saying his destructive impulses can't be vent out as freely as music play by the lyre.
The thing is that he is comparing these impulses to freedom while inferring a God, and this is serious business in religion when you imprint something of God to your messages. It is as if he is directly saying that if given a chance to vent out freely, they will flow like music play from lyre of Barbartos, indirectly hinting that this music is destructive in nature.
Then again, I only have an above average grade in english, and understanding of grammar ain't my forte, so I could be wrong in my interpretation. I only learn enough to speak and write freely, since everything is done in english where I am born :

Here's my take. it's probably bad:
Not as if I were to be outfitted as that guardian of Khaenri'ah
= " Even if I were to have the same qualities as that [Guardian of Khaenri'ah] "
= [Guardian of Khaenri'ah] - atm, this is most likely Dain
= if it does turn out to be Dain, then the writer could be referring to the fact that Dain is immortal/still retains his humanity despite being cursed
Not as if my destructive self were made to be the lyre of Barbatos
= " Even if my [breaking] self were made to be like the [Lyre of Barbatos] "
= Remember, the [Lyre of Barbatos] - The Holy Lyre der Himmel, was broken.
= The writer's self or body is heading into destruction -> [Breaking] - could be due to corrosion, or they're cursed like the citizens of Khaenri'ah.
= Alternatively, we could use another quality of the [Lyre of Barbatos] > "Even if the writer's breaking self is to be soothed by Barbatos' music"
= The writer doesn't have to personally know Barsibatos. Bartobas is an archon, and archons are well known. Even Timmy knows who the Anemo Archon is. even some liyue and inazuma characters know.
Not as if I were to soar like a Pegasus
      = " Even if I could fly like a [Pegasus] "
= Flying Horse. greek theme and stuff.
Not if I were the swift, snow-white pair of Morphes
= I've no damn clue what the hell Morphes is
Add these to the feather-footed and the winged
= " add to these [qualities], those of the light footed and the winged "
= so far, the format of all the previous text has been "not as if I had these qualities from someone/something"
And likewise, call for the swiftness of the winds
= pretty self explanatory. I don't have to rewrite this
And though you should harness these, friend, and offer them to me
= " and though you should acquire these [qualities that were previously mentioned], and give them to me "
= even if the writer were to be given the qualities that were mentioned ---
Yet I should be tired to the bone And worn away by frequent faintness
= " I will still be tired to the bone and worn away by [frequent faintness] "
= [Frequent Faintness] could be connected to the fact that the writer is [Breaking], as mentioned in the 2nd line
= even if the writer were to be given the aforementioned qualities, the effects of their inevitable destruction cannot be stopped.
My friend, while I would search for you

I think that Edgetho is referring to Twin and Dainsleif. If Twin did travel with Dainsleif, he would be their companion, and from Dainsleif's dialogue in the Teyvat Preview, it's pretty clear he controls "the threads of all fate", so he could also be known as "Fate". Add to that the fact that when the twins arrived in the world, Khaenri'ah's destruction was just occuring, Twin could be Fate's companion, Calamity. So, Edgetho might be mistaking us for our twin, and mistaking Paimon for Dainsleif.

I'm not sure where's the 'tyrant' part to Dainsleif but he did mention he was the Abyss twin's companion before. Also at the start of this quest, Dainsleif comes out of a portal, met up with traveler and paimon, said a few lines on how he got there, yada yada, and also said "Now our paths cross again...fate, it seems, owes you an explanation. There is a theory that each type of artifact is related to Primordial One and 4 shades.
      Crown: Phanes (Primordial One)
      Timepiece: Istaroth (god of time)
Feather could fit Pegasus (wings) and flower could represent Morphes (mythological Morpheus was associated with poppy). That would make them Shades. And there is Barbatos in that letter... he surely emptied many goblets of wine in his life, that's for sure.
Also, Morphes is associated with white... just like Paimon and Asmoday (Sustainer). Just saying. Morphes could be plural Morpheus and there is a pair of them. Paimon and Asmoday would make a pair.
Additionally, if lines 2-5 refer to Shades, would that make the guardian from line 1 Phanes?

And what if Pegasus and Morphes are the names of the two other shades of the Primordial one alongside Istaroth? Morphes could refer Morpheus, a greek god asociated with dreams and sleep. We know that Barbatos is related to Istaroth, as she was known as the Thousand Winds of Time and probably Venti was part of those thousand winds, same as Pegasus, who was a mythical greek beast capable of flying. And the three Istaroth (Kairos), Pegasus and Morphes (Morpheus) are related to Greek mythology.

This mysterious letter was likely written by Halfdan, considering that we can only enter this room by getting those 9 orbs from people who came from Khaenri’ah (the Husks) then the letter should of likely been written by a Khaenri’ah person, but they say they are not the Guardian of Khaenri’ah (maybe the Guardian is Dainsleif?). And it mentions the lyre of Barbatos so this letter was most definitely written after the Archon War, so it couldn’t of been written by someone who originally lived in the upside down city because it was likely destroyed long before the Archon War, plus the switch that opens the entrance to the Room is right side up, so it was placed there after the city was Upside-Downed. (Which makes the upside down teleport waypoint even more interesting) and as we know, Halfdan was still very conscious after being cursed even after 500 years, so when he was first cursed he must of been at his most conscious state being cursed. As for the reason why the 9 orbs was used as a key and was spread across the Chasm in the hands of the Husks, well, perhaps the treasure chests in the secret room were originally the treasures of those 9 Husks plus Halfdan’s.

Then the humans inevitably got greedy and wanted to access the gods' garden, the envoys of Celestia were pissed, and I imagine these people got big nailed as usual. Maybe these envoys were sent to Khaenri'ah, or the inverted city is this civilization.

I have a feeling It's the alchemist Gold who wrote this letter. The letter is locked inside an ancient civilization ruin, yet it straight up mention Khaenraia, so the letter isn't much older than Khaenraia. It's likely written during Gold travels, after she became very tired.
the Friend in it might be the person Childe met in Abyss and learned from. And so, that person would have been missing since days of Khaenraia. (No evidence though)
The Pegasus is one of Gold's creations, just like Durin and Albedo and many other things. It's mentioned in Cinnabar Spindle. It was likely a marvelous creation, but one who couldn't reach the far end of philosophy, nor create a new destiny for gold and Khaenraia.
So Gold was very much seeking a way to pull an Otto Apocalypse move and weave a new fate.. that explain a lot.
Gold likely knew the sky is a lie, and the world of Tyvat is wrong due to whatever the second war caused. So the the fall of the heavens would reveal the truth, as the falsehood collapse.
This make me think the pillars who have fell everywhere is a symptom of Celestia breaking apart.

Something to ponder: Abyss Twin is a Traveler too and did go on a journey with Dainsleif before the destruction of Khaenriah.

I think they do not necessarly have to be new characters, the four from the letter. Can be just different names for characters we know of. All of this has a lot of potential for more deeper research.

Pegasus typically are seen as good creatures with wings as white as snow, which funnily enough matches the godly form a certain drunkard bard has when depicted as an archon, like in the statues, so I think the whole poem is about Barbatos and a missing friend of his
Edit further down with an in depth analysis of the poem line-by-line after having some coffee to wake myself up, above was sleep addled first impressions with little thought to them
Having watched again, I think it's written by and about a friend of Barbatos as the writer talks about themself and Barbatos separately, later probably talking about trying to physically find him but couldn't because of being on the opposing side. Also a lot of the statements say the speaker isn't what they compare themself to. My interpretations on the lines: 1. Compares themself to a specific guardian of Khaenri'ah in adornment and says they aren't, meaning they either haven't accomplishes enough before the end of writing this in order to have earned it or it could be more literal / 2. They say they weren't made to be the lyre of Barbatos, meaning the probably DID send messages to and from the aforementioned Archon most likely thought themselves too impure after an event happened that meant they weren't worthy to do so or continue to do so / 3. I believe the Pegasus mention is due to how they don't feel free to do as they like, while a Pegasus is free to fly wherever it's heart leads them. / 4. The mention of Morphes could be a reference to the Talaria, or Barbatos' wings as the breeze or wind would be cooling white they are depicted to be pure white. Also Barbatos has the ability to hide and bring forth his wings at the time of the war. / 5-6. "Add to these the winged and feather-footed" could be a plea to help the innocents that could escape to do so, as fellow archons would have a hard time trying to harm anyone Barbatos was protecting due to needing cooperation to have the ability to win the war. The next line could be a plea for him to come quickly as there probably wouldn't be much time left as the archons were said to have struck suddenly. / 7-8. Barbatos probably offered to shelter his friend in order to protect them but the friend, having already known their time was near due to a mysterious affliction and probably didn't want their archon friend, whom can't die, to see them like that. / 9-11. They say they would search for Barbatos if they could, but the world is breaking as are the falsehoods, meaning Kaehnri'ah probably had found the secrets Celestia wanted hidden and they knew they didn't have enough time, therefore wrote this most likely in the hopes that Barbatos would find it. Since Barbatos knows every past, present, and future song, he most likely is fluent enough in the language as to read this.

'Morphes' should be synonymous to 'Morpheus' who is the Greek God of Dreams, the 'feather footed' should refer to 'The Talaria of Mercury' or the 'Winged sandals of Hermes' of whom [Hermes] is another messenger of the Gods, as this device allowed the user to fly as swift as a bird. 'Pegasus, Morpheus, and Hermes' are references to messengers of the Gods in Greek mythology.

If the "tyrant" is actually referring to Paimon, that means we get another foreshadowing that Paimon might betray us in the future. First one was from Enjou who said the same thing

I think Istaroth is the writer of this letter. She was shown to support civilisations that were cast aside by celestia as she helped the people of enkanomiya. It would make sense for her to also be a 'guardian' of khaenri'ah. There are a lot of references to wind in the letter and Istaroth was also worshipped at the thousand winds temple in mondstadt. If she is trying to help the civilisations that were created before the second throne survive all by herself, it's no wonder she has grown tired. She is most likely searching for help as she can no longer protect these civilisations on her own.

I just thought of a theory that this letter was from dainsleif (or someone with similar position as him) to kaeya.
soar like a Pegasus may refer to Kaeya being a cavalry knight
Morphes as described means snow or related to cryo, kaeya being a cryo user
I know its kinda weak correlation/theory but just wanna share

Calamity and fate sounds like poetic purpose to me, not actually discerning people - the concept of fate is likely compared to a tyrant because it controls everything, and as fate only brought bad things to the knight, they see it as a always being together with calamity. It'd be interesting to see the CN version of that line.

i just remembered something: in cinnabar spindle's lore, a "one-horned white horse" is mentioned. while a pegasus and an unicorn are different things, this still confirms that there's uh..... magic horses in teyvat?

    Kinda simplifying/interpreting the letter:
"I don't have any special abilities like Barbatos's lyre, the wings of a Pegasus, or "the swift, snow-white pair of Morphes" (whatever that means lol). Nor can I use the power of wind. And though you do possess these power and allow me to use them, my body cannot handle these powers. And in the time it has taken me to look for you, "the heavels fall to pieces and falsehoods collapse."
I think this letter is written by a normal person, to someone with much more power than them. The writer was given access to those abilities by the person they're searching for, but cannot properly utilize them without repercussions. So they continue to search, but they cannot do it fast enough.
Also, as for the first line (since I kinda forgot it lol), I think theyre just saying that they don't have the powers of the "guardian of Khaenri'ah (who may be Dainsleif, but that's just a guess).

Cat, could you make a video summarising the Fatui's mission in the Chasm and how it relates to the Tsaritsa's motives against Celestia? Esp the Fatui sentence "if not us, then who?" which raises a lot of qns about when they're so ready to sacrifice themselves. Does it have something to do with the Abyss? Or the cataclysm 500 years ago made irreparable changes to Snezhnaya? Childe fell into the Abyss as a child, does that mean there're doors to the Abyss lying around like potholes in Snezhnaya?

You are very attentive to details. Thanks for your hard work and explanations. Your videos make the story deeper.
The further we go in the plot, the more it seems to me that we are going down the wrong path. Whether our twin is poisoned or not, history hints that our enemies may not be in the Abyss. And maybe we suppressed this black dirt in the Chasm in vain...

This isn’t related to the chasm but I haven’t seen anyone online mention this, so outside the peak of vindagnyr there is a plaque that says ‘A monument was laid down in this place, and it was named Sal Vind…’ Sal vind roughly translates to vengeful salt and Sal terrae is right beside dragonspine. Does anyone think this means that the gentle goddess of salt seeked vengeance against those who murdered her? Or does this relate to something else

In 5:21 about your theory traveller as Calamity and Paimon as fate, my thing there is Paimon is guiding us(fate) and we traveller bring calamity to different places because of how paimon guides us. When we go at red thing at map, Paimon forces us to go inside the red thing as a guide and the main traveller completely trust Paimon. It would feel like that she is connected to celestia on how she guides us, like is she doing this on purpose or is she planning for the future? What is her purpose? did celestia ordered it? Is her purpose for good?
In 12:14 and so forth on the letter, the whole thing is about friend, resembling anemo.
12:39 Morphes also resembles anemo because based of what the letter said "Snow-White pair", it seems like tsaritsa is a pair of morphes and the tsaritsa and barbatos have a cut tie relationship.
12:20 Pegasus also resembles anemo because anemo means wind and pegasus have wings.
(Sorry for my bad grammar, english is not my main language)
