- Batman: The Ride opened in 1992 as the worlds first suspended looping coaster and has thrilled millions of guests since its debut. Take a step back in time to 1992 when this mega-coaster made its world premiere.
I remember my best friend and I visiting Six Flags the day this ride opened. The wait in the line was over 5 hours.
Inflatable Conan that's opening day for you
Yeah when it’s new it gets 5 hours
We don't really appreciate batclones anymore but the very first batclone absolutely shat all over everything that came before it, it was the absolute best coaster ever built when it opened and it wasn't even close. Incredible how far roller coasters have come since then
It's hard to believe that Batman: The Ride is turning 25 next year. There have been 12 roller coasters with the same layout (3 of them are a mirror image of this one and 8 of them are owned by Six Flags), but this one is the original and is a piece of history.
Which 3 are the mirror image
@@antimcgregor8139 I know of two of them with the same name and the same layout, one is in Six Flags St. Louis and one is in Six Flags Magic Mountain. I’m not sure where the 3rd is.
I remember the line was even entertaining, it started with regular partitions, then you meandered through Gotham park, through a hole in the fence where there was a crashed police car and a hydrant spraying water, through the Gotham water works and into the bat cave, Game changer in terms of keeping you busy while waiting on a tremendous line.
Last and only real themed ride at the park
I worked in the games department right next to the Batman ride in 1993 and 1994. I worked in Yukon Territory. We would hear the Batman ride all day long.
2:34 you can hear the chain lift it used to sound like a train going up.
The one in New Jersey was my first inverting roller coaster
Were there ever three trains on Batman the Ride? I see in the POV there's a train on the transfer track
I love opening day videos and would like more! ☺️
But that makes it feels authentic. A real bat cave would be old and grungy. They just need to add better/more AC. It's a damn oven in that stairwell.
Never knew this ride was painted all black originally!
Mannnnnnnn the good old days...remember it well!
"Six Flags theme park near Chicago"? Six Flags Great America is in Gurnee Illinois, Chicago is 40 miles away. It'll only take you about an hour to drive from one to the other, but I wouldn't exactly described that as "near Chicago".
then what major city is it 'near' to? stop nitpicking stupid shit
It's near Chicago you'll attract more customers saying Chicago instead of Gurnee
i agree! the bat cave and queue areas need a facelift. feels kind of grungy and outdated. it would've gone along great with the new batman movie coming out this summer.
such an awesome ride
Can't wait to start going again this summer!
the themeing was soo cool back then, until they tamed it down into what we have today!
The theming is the same
It’s not sweetheart. When it was painted yellow it was removed. Early 2000’s.
@@wkjeepguy24 what was removed
@@wkjeepguy24 Yeah I remember riding this back in the summer of 1992 when it was new, and it was all black.. The way Batman would want it!! Whats up with all this yellow shit now? Ive havent been to this park in years, and dont even live in
illinios anymore.. But one day when I come home to visit I gotta go the Six Flags Great America for old time sakes.. My has it changed!!
@@jakethecake6952 She is referring to the graffiti on the walls and busted up props in the part of the line where the police car is. It was removed in 2004, the same year the ride was painted yellow.
I love this ride!!!
The original colors were way better, but it current trees that this ride now has around it is so much better than how it looks in this vid.
this is the first invert roller coaster ever built..idk know what the hell your talking about
Jason Dorsch name a inverted ride before this
There were the Arrow suspended coasters, but those don’t count
This changed a lot over time
More of these!
Like with any attraction over time, to give it a new look and recreate the appeal for it.
My right ear was lonely :(
My mom use to love roller coasters. She told me she went into the Batman before she had my older sisters. Sadly ever since she had her first baby, she is scared to go on any type of ride for some reason. I am just glad she at least experienced a roller coaster that made history!
Me too
4:24 - 4:26 I guess there was no inside of the brakes before entering the station
Huh. When did the building over the brake run and transfer track get added?
Same year they opened the ride and finished it probably that may
There are bigger and better now obviously but it will always be classic. First for theming with DC characters as well if I’m not mistaken.
2004 season
What happened to the sound?
@Jacklw6499- To trick people into them thinking it's a new ride.
Nope it was because the old black color was looking kinda old so they gave it a new paint job and also back in the day all the batman merchandise was black.
Why did they change the color of the track from black to yellow?
JWilD because the old track was well getting old and batman usually is black and yellow
Yeah I think the old black looks better
Because when Tim Black was made the general manager of SFGAm he wanted to make the park look nicer. In addition to painting the ride yellow he also had the graffiti in the line painted over so the walls were then just black and gray without all the theming.
It was also the last thing he did at GADV before getting sent over to GAm, so he had both painted yellow in the same year.
The track is yellow
Every like six flags ok now
Six flags cool ok
Nemesis is better though.
such terrible 90's clothing.
^ What are you smoking? That ride sucks
