I made a booboo. 13:36 I mention that the only difference in the early maze for MQ is a song of time block. The fake will to the last corridor to Dead Hand has a different kind of block trying to fool you into thinking the wall is real. You get rid of it by shooting a nearby eye switch. I don't know why my testing didn't show this. (My best guess is that the debug file I generate treats this switch as unchecked, but it starts checked in a non-debug game and you have to uncheck it, since hitting the eye to get rid of the block actually opens the eye.) Should this temple ever need an update from adding tricks, I'll be sure to test more thoroughly.
That gate is initially open. During the process of getting one of the two keys necessary to reach this hallway, you usually set a flag that closes that gate. It's really weird. So if you got your keys some other way, that might explain why you didn't notice the gate. The N64 randomizer at least has a (semi-controversial) hack that makes it so that the gate is always there from the start.
I'm using the debug mode feature in Ship of Harkinian which starts me with 9 keys when I enter a dungeon, so I didn't have to gather keys and I could leave as many things undone as possible while demonstrating and researching. I appreciate this knowledge. You have no idea how much of a big help you've been.
the backflip onto the stone umbrella is waaaaaayyyyy easier than the method shown here. at the first umbrella, face away from it, wait for it to fall, and backflip against it. Then, wait for it to go back up, and backflip during its fall. the timing isnt super strict, but it may take a few tries. when done correctly, youll clip through the spikes and land on top of the umbrella. This also doesnt require hover boots, but I believe it's considered a glitch.
I was considering covering that. I forget why I decided against it. You're right, though: it is considered more of a glitch. A lot of players don't like using glitches and some races don't allow glitches, even tiny ones. If I hosted a race, I would allow this clip anyway. I still consider the hover boots method is a fun swag strat.
I'm surprised you didn't include the gate clip to get into the boat room or the jump directly to the boat wheel, skipping the goron bracelet requirement.
Glitches and miscellaneous time savers will be in their own videos. This series is about tricks, which only covers trick you have the option to enable when setting up Ocarina of Time Randomizer. You did make me consider an interesting dilemma, though. Funnily enough, getting onto the boat without strength is not considered a trick, and when I looked in the written logic (available on github), getting onto the boat doesn't require strength. This implies the randomizer developers assume that anyone getting this far without strength knows about the jump to the boat wheel. This may not be the safest assumption, but the falling spikes room requires strength if you don't have "Shadow Temple Umbrella Skip" enabled. And if you know how to do umbrella skip, you're likely knowledgeable in the jump to boat wheel time saver. The possibility of this supposed oversight being an issue requires a weird set of circumstances. 1) The player gets to the boat without strength. 2) The player would also have to not know about the jump to the wheel. 3) The seed requires boarding the boat without strength. The chances of all that being true are so astronomically low that a rewrite of the logic isn't worth it.
@@KTSpeedruns Oh right, you're only including the tricks you can enable, my bad. I'll look forward to those extra videos :^) It is very strange that the boat room logically doesn't require strength, so it's probably a good thing for most people to learn anyway. I had a seed recently where the only dungeon I had left was shadow and I got both goron bracelet and silver gauntlets there, though they were before the block. So I wasn't far off being required to do the boat jump. Another interesting thing is that it's actually super easy to backflip at the edge (might've been the corners) of the stone umbrellas when they're coming down to clip on top of them, and yet the tricks list the much trickier hoverboots version instead. Then hoverboots are only needed for the GS (but I'm not enabling that trick yet, it's way too much effort to learn 🤣). Anyways I'm really enjoying the format of these videos, keep up the good work!
Thanks again for watching and sharing your thoughts. The nice thing is that neither of the push blocks in Shadow Temple require any strength beyond Goron Bracelet. If it comes down to it, and someone really does think the oversight is worth fixing, It might be as simple as adding a strength requirement to the gold skulltula and the freestanding hearts next to it. And if "Shadow Temple Jump to Boat Wheel" was added as a trick, the added requirement would be either strength OR the trick be enabled. The more I thought about it, the easier a supposed fix popped into my head. I think the backflip into the crushers to be clipped up onto the crushers is considered a glitch that would never be required in glitchless logic. Just like a ground jump (with bomb) is not a trick. But it also seems inconsistent that "Pass Through One Way Collision" allows clipping upward through the platform to enter Impa's house to collect the heart piece check next to Impa's cow. I think glitched logic takes the backflip onto crushers clip into account though. Anyway, I hope you continue to enjoy and share and all that great stuff. Really helps me out as I'm hoping this can help me feed my family someday.
@@KTSpeedruns "This implies the randomizer developers assume that anyone getting this far without strength knows about the jump to the boat wheel." Those bastards lol. I thought I ended up with an impossible seed because that wasn't a trick I knew about. Oddly enough though, I didn't have the Umbrella skip trick enabled, either. It's kinda funny that the backflip onto the crusher isnt considered a glitch since its so much easier than the glitchless skip, lol
@@KTSpeedruns The logical expectation is that you will get onto the boat by hookshotting the ladder. To get to this point in the dungeon requires the hookshot anyway, or the dungeon shortcut setting is on (meaning the block is already pushed), so there was no need to check for any items. If the boat wheel jump ever becomes logically relevant, it would not be in default logic.

Commenting, liking each video and subbed. This is an amazing series, especially because all these tricks apply to the SoH Randomizer.
The simplified maps are a nice touch.
