I love this song, Rick Astley has such a strong and pure voice.

This such a beautiful song a very talented man.......You are & always will a true ☆ be a true soul because one thing about Mr Rick Astley is he never sold his soul for money, fame he just wanted to sing live....So he stepped away from all the madness & back at 50 doing what he love's & it shows.
I am glad that he never did sell his soul and now he is back and I will still listen to him after all of this time I really missed his voice.

Rick's place in music history is secure. He got poked fun at for many years because of the camp factor but when you listen to his vocal performances on all of these wonderful songs, there is no denying that he is a certified, heavyweight, badass.

Nani Wattz I think I can answer this. After a string of hits, Rick left the business in 1993 and stayed away for quite a while, thus losing his initial momentum. When he came back, he was over 40 and was singing songs that weren't likely to wow the youth market, which is where the big fame and big money come from. Where his initial success came from performing very trendy dance music, his more recent work ignores current music trends, and that makes it very hard to get radio airplay. In other words, he's not really trying to compete in the big leagues anymore, and seems to be content with a more moderate level of success that allows him to do what he wants creatively instead of being locked into the requirements of being a musical commodity. Personally, I think he's shown great timing in the career moves he's made. If he continues to keep up-tempo, happy-sounding songs as an important part of his repertoire, I'll consider him to be utterly brilliant at music career management.

He was never a one hit wonder :) He was huge my first two years at high school. But from interviews I gather he doesn't want the fame - like with Joan Armatrading before him who is amazing - they are both just content making music and playing it. Having said that as Peter Kay's support act he's helped sell out a few major venues. I can't have been the only one to put up with Peter Kay to see Rick Astley :)

They are just as likely to play "Cry For Help" on the radio. Which was post Stock Aitken and Waterman. It's no different to any other artist even the Beatles and Rolling Stones only get a fraction of their work played.
I have been a devoted Rick fan since 1987 but I gotta say, no matter how fantastic his voice, or how slick he looked, until very recently he didn't seem 100% at ease with his fame and being pushed to front and central. I'm glad he's grown into it.

I can remember being in basic training when the song came out. I was in the mess hall, which is pretty much the only place you can relax for a few minutes during basic training, & and this song came on. It was a great reminder that the real world was still turning while I was in there

Back in 1987 I was going to break up with my relationship. I remember my girlfriend playing this song for me, it made me realize that we're made for each other. My wife of 34 years and I still listen to this song and laugh to the memories. We have to good kids and a wonderful family.

I think it was brilliant releasing this single in America. This was definitely different than a lot of Stock, Aitken, & Waterman's other songs as they tended to be rather lightweight and formulaic. This definitely solidified Astley's popularity in the States at the time. I wonder how Britain and Europe as a whole would have responded to this had this been released as a single there.
