A lot of people don't want to credit Vince Russo for his ideas in WCW, but ironically, the best eras of WCW were Bill Watts and Vince Russo. Russo was one of few bookers that had something for everyone, so everyone in WCW had a chance to earn. Bill Watts held his talent accountable regardless if they were booked or not. Here are the accomplishments of Russo in WCW: -Putting the WCW title on Bret Hart. -New Blood vs Millionaire's Club. -Lance Storm got over. -Pushing Booker T and Scott Steiner, two long overdue pushes. -Got Norman Smiley over. Sure, Russo did not have a filter, but it's not his fault that WCW went under. AOL-Time Warner and Eric Bischoff's illogical booking destroyed WCW.
I miss WCW even back then in the early mid 90s I had always dreamed that the major wrestling companies could work together and have special events together instead of trying to pick one another out of business…
Not as much "more respect" as "less hate". He's still responsible for countless terrible ideas and gimmicks but some were actually pretty good, I'll give him that.
I like Russo. I enjoy his shows... Light, entertaining, interesting... Modern wrestling is just boring. I can't watch 20 minute match after 20 minute match.
I think I've been conditioned to watching longer matches as the years have gone on, but if they ever want to attract casual fans back this is a great call. A long main event is fine, but wrestling should be a variety show with lots to keep you interested.
Nwo 2000 was a good lineup...well until the Harris bros came in...and scott halls personal issues caused him to go away again...but even with scott hall gone....scott Steiner was a suitable replacement....they just shoulda never been nwo 2000...they shoulda been their own faction...their own identity like the main event mafia in impact...well it was nwo like but not bloated like nwo...and it had an original name....immortal was almost a carbon copy of nwo....even w/ the fact that both heavily bloated factions started out w/ 3 primary stars...nwo(original) was hogan/hall/nash....immortal was jeff hardy/jeff jarrett/abyss...yeah I know hogan and bishoff was involved also....of Course....hardy/jarrett/abyss were the primary 3 performers of immortal aka tna/impact nwo....tna/impact even had a wolfpack like group..."the band"...originally hall/nash/xpac....then scott had to go again and it was oddly nash/xpac/Eric young....and they had a horsemen like group...fortune...styles/roode/James storm/kazarian/daniels...i liked that one cause like the original horsemen...how they came up together....so did the members of fortune...i like the aew horsemen like group the best so far....they may not have all came up togetherr...but they mirror the horsemen so much....flamboyant and arrogant leader mjf...great manager/mouthpiece tully blanchard....1 of the greatest tag teams ever FTR whose style resembles arn anderson and tully blanchard from their horsemen tag team days sooo much...they got shawn spears...who really needed to be involved in something....and they have their big bad enforcer in wardlow...my point is a lotta factions tend to copy other factions and that's ok....but they need to least have their own identity....horsemen were alwsys about excellence and being at the top....aew horsemen style group r named "the pinnacle" like top of a mountain...btw...to the "wwe fans"....wwe even copied and had their own horsemen style group...ric flair was even in it...evolution....wwe also copied the beatdown crew from impact...w/ the hurt business...lashley and mvp were core members of both factions in both promotions....they all do it...
He definitely could have done what WWF did with Triple H, to Scott Steiner in a sense. The guy fit his character to a tee and really made you not like him.
My God,,what a good video, IMO. I remember watching WCW slowly die, and YELLING at my TV saying "why don't they cut this nWo BULLSHIT already and start pushing---' ALL THE "GOOD" IDEAS YOU JUST MENTIONED... I remember saying how could they botch the hottest wrestler in the biz in Bret after the screw job? Why wasn't Lance Storm gettin more opportunities after this great "Canadian Rules" stuff he was doing? How did they get Norman Smiley so over? I used to think he was Joe Ordinary, then I found myself wanting to see him on TV! And finally, this I actually told to Russo's face when I met him at the annual BIG EVENT in Queens a few years ago when I had like a 5 min one on one convo with him, that I thought the new blood vs millionaire club was AWESOME and just what that company needed--- but I guess CREATIVE CONTROL is a bitch, huh...(ps, he was very calm, humble, and thankful to hear that at least ONE wrestling fan, whom I even told him, I was an ECW/WWF guy, but a fan of WRESTLING in general, liked and got what he was trying to do....) If only others got out of his way, and shit, he got out of his own way with shit too...
Amazing that you got to meet him, he comes across as a nice guy in interviews I've watched with him, just real passionate about his business. I do think he gets unfairly treated by fans because of the bad decisions, especially the Arquette situation, and goes unrecognized for these really good ideas that WCW needed at the time
@@StunnedByWrestling yeah that's all accurate and true. I've met him a few times, but that time, like I said, I had a full blown, 2 regular guys who like wrestling conversation. It was cool! Keep up the good work man, only just discovered your channel recently, ran thru like 5 videos toniggt lol
I disagree that everyone getting screen time and a character is good. Some people are just made to be jobbers and it feels like you're just forcing it. Just look at aew and that mess...I stopped watching because they want to push everyone except the actual stars. I'm tires of seeing guys like yuta and roh wrestlers when they have a stacked roster...they should not be main eventing shows..especially when you have matches like danielson vs hangman on the card.
Jobbers can still have story and character. The J.O.B. Squad was pretty over, right? Factions are how you get stooges and jobbers involved in storylines without detracting from the main talent. Plus, who knows? Jeff and Matt Hardy both started as teenage jobbers in WWF before The Hardy Boyz formed and made it big as a tag team.
Russo sucked...but did have a few good ideas in wcw...for 1 he finally at least made an attempt at pushing the younger talent...another was to begin to build the company around bret Hart and book bret how bret shoulda been booked...then goldberg ended that....
Three Count was a Jimmy Hart creation. He came up with it and was using them on Saturday Night well before they were on Nitro
That Dustin Rhodes character wasn't Vince's idea, but the nWo silver group was

Try your hardest bro sooner or later you'll get the recognition you deserve

His best idea was pushing for younger talent like Booker T and Scott Steiner to be world champion.
You're kind of right... Neither were young but both were well overdue their main event push and winning the big one.
@@ZakynthosDiamandis
Booker T was younger than Randy Savage was at Mania 4. Youth is less important than aptitude.
You Called Lance Storm No Spring Chicken He Was Only 31 In 2000
I meant due to his in ring experience rather than his age
@@StunnedByWrestling understood great content nonetheless 🤜🏾🤛🏾
@@gqsmoove87 thanks man, appreciate it! 👊
Russo did have some good ideas in wrestling. Definitely deserves more respect
He had good ideas, but his booking tends to go bad.

Hard to respect a guy who thumps his bible but he hates women so much

The WCW 2000 was actually Russo’s idea, Bischoff was out of the company at the time Bischoff was gone.
14:09 hahaha I love that promo he did on Ric Flair! That moment when he put those fake teeth in was fucking hilarious! XD
Booker T. My favroite wrestler.
Steiner was my favroite

All I gotta say is...
WCW FOR LIFE AND FOREVER!!!!
I always loved the theory that Vinny Mc sent Vinny Ru to Atlanta to ruin WCW

Norman Smiley was in ECW? 😅🤣😂😆i had no idea
2 tag matches alongside Mikey Whipwreck back in 1995!
McMahon was never a filter for Russo or Russo/Ferrara.
100% correct. Vince never left WWF but the TV ratings sure did.
Vince Russo may have had some good ideas, but he ignored the best one. Keeping himself off the stage and out of the ring!
