I just bought the key you recommended. Hondapartsnow says it's not compatible with the Element, but I can confirm it does work to program the remote lock. I didn't even get the key cut yet. I just used my old key to turn between I and II positions while I pressed the lock button on the new key. I'll get it cut at a local store and then programmed with a Tom's Key programmer (I have a second spare key to put the transponder into the new key). Thanks for the help!
isn't it so satisfying when you work on something the whole day, after trial and error you get it to work? i can't describe it properly aside from the sense of accomplishment but it's rewarding nonetheless.

The immobilizer is in the car. The key has a transponder module, which is an IC with an rfid circuit and antenna.
