Cleaning out some of the shitposts off my hard drive now that I've got more free time. There's a lot to cover in on this video. Very long rant comment inbound. Read only if you're interested in what it took to make the video. First thing I'll address. The Raiders fire their weapons in full-auto once the gunfight pops off, and it was my intention to fake them firing in semi-auto by adding single shots to each instance of a muzzle discharge, which happens only a few times per spray, this, however, did not work out, as their animations and shell discharges created a dissonance between the sound and the visuals, so in the end I had to shrug and move on. Sound design overall took me about 3 days. Which was made easier by leaning more into some of the in-game sounds. Shooting it took a long long time. The rapid fire checkpoint system meant that I was constantly restarting the mission in order to capture certain events, some of which were very difficult to recreate, even things you think would just be script reliant. Filming the men walking around while you're behind them means that they are at a walking speed, but if you're in front of them, they either move at a brisker pace, or go into a full-on sprint. The gunfight was especially difficult to film, as very little was able to be recreated, and if I reloaded the entire mission, it meant that there were different enemies spawning in place of others, so the same guy rarely spawned in the same place twice, meaning the maintenance of continuity was in God's hands. This isn't of course taking into account the fact that I had to film it while trying not to get shot. This is easier on the lowest difficulty obviously, but that means you risk seeing friendly name tags on screen occasionally. This didn't actually happen that often, but it did get in the way of some otherwise good shots. There's also the matter of the grenade indicator, which did trash a ton of shots I had. For some reason, the enemies on the other side of the trains are far more likely to continuously throw grenades at you. So, I'll be securing a nice shot and then a big red icon shows up on my screen. I'd go to realistic mode if it weren't for the fact that the area I was in was sighted by the machinegun 24/7. Which was another issue, btw. Getting shot by it is trouble enough, but keeping lighting continuity is another task to throw into the pile. I could have two similar shots of a dude running up to cover, but one will have him spotlighted by the gun, and another won't, so those two shots can't go together. Overall, it's obviously using the in-game systems very-much NOT for their intended use. Either way, despite all that said, it was still pretty doable by the end. Thank you for coming to my TED Talk. Hope you enjoyed the video, guys. I'm gonna go play DOOM: Eternal for a little while.
