Oh no bad luck Rob, that’s a real shame. Still at least no one was hurt and it wasn’t pilot error. Looking forward to watching the cub build. We fly on 👍

wow im actually gutted for ya mate.1 thing ive learned in 35 years of rc is to get rid of as many points of failure as possible it reduces the chances of things like this from happening i still have and fly my first ever build that took me quite a few months to design and build its super strong super reliable and has been flying for 35 years.lets hope this crash dosent put u off as it has for many people ive met over the years.good luck in future builds and what a great video mate keep up the good work buddy

I've been there buddy. I spent two years building a Ray Hayes Olympic III sailplane and smashed it to bits on my 3rd trip out. I was depressed for 2 weeks LOL!

I still have my Citabria from the Balsa USA kit that I built in 1992. Tough luck on you. Had the same feeling when my corsair flew four minutes after a 300 hour build.

NIce to see Rob that you keep the spirit up. I know how painful this is even not destroying the model yourself. I thiink also that the flight control device messed something up. Congrats to your new kit, keeps the bad spirit out of the workshop

It feels so weird to give a thumbs up on a crash, especially when I followed you on the build. So sad🤒…but, there’s always light at the end of the tunnel and this new kit is something I would love to build, when I wouldn’t be into helis! An iconic plane 👍👍👍 heads up from Munich🍺

I built a sig 1/4 scale cub. Wonderful kit. Covered in Sig Coverall and dope. Pumped O.S. 120 four stroke. Excellent info on your crash. I wouldn’t have thought to check NOTAMS if I were more than 5 miles from an airport. They’re so many notams for most big airports, that would be easy to miss. I knew Peter Valance who owned the air museum next door to Gatwick. I visited once and crawled through several of his airplanes. I hope some of his collection is saved. Hello from near Atlanta, GA USA.

Power distribution units are just another complex piece to potentially fail. If you are only running 5 servos, you just don't need them. Sadly a lesson you have found out the hard way

Sad news. I haven't finished building my Citabria yet but I would be interested in the cowl if the shipping is reasonable to the US. (I assume it is not reasonable). The clipped winged cub was my second option behind the Citabria. I love the high wing acrobatic planes.

RC Airplanes are like having a car chasing dog. You don’t want to get too attached to them.

Hi sorry for your loss What is the radio used ? 100% agree and I sugest to use LiFe direct connection .... no UBEC or SBEC. I am doing this for years now with no issues. Bon courage

been there and done that, it just hurts when you lose a model, but that is part of the hobby I guess... I'm going to watch your CUB build series :)

Bummer about the Citabria. Even the simple power slide switches have downed more planes... That Sig Cub is going to be a bit more fiddly than the BUSA build but it will open you up to some new techniques and build out pretty scale if I remember right. Hazel has an interview somewhere on the net about the history of that plane and how it came to be clipped and blue. In fact the whole Sig Company history is kind of interesting and well documented. It's hard to believe they are still around and Hobbico/Top Flite/Great Planes juggernaut didn't survive!

12 months???? That seems a bit lengthy. When I was new in the hobby and building was my thing I was cranking kits out in 2 months on average. I did dust a Great Planes Super Sportster 40 on its maiden flight. I had the very large elevator set with too much throw. On the initial take off I used a bit too much and it went straight up. When I tried to recover it went into a spin and spun into the ground. Totally destroyed. I had finished that airplane that VERY day too. From then on, I never made a maiden flight the day an airplane was completed. I learned many things that day and I went for many years before another crash.

What a pity! It’s better not getting attached lots to our planes. By the way, I am building balsa USA Citabria and I am having a really good time with it. Can I ask you how much covering material did you use for finishing the aircraft. Looking forward next chapter of you Conateucting the Cub 😗

Unfortunately, that is also part of our hobby and is always a personal tragedy. And at some point it happens to everyone, even the best pilots - in the end you are simply happy when there is no further damage or human suffering besides the model.

FYI, I have also used the Yellow Box (mine was from HK, but you can find this unit everywhere) and I had issues with the voltage regulation. I have put it direct in the wastebasket before the first flight.

  • @MrSchuetzendorf

Is it usual to fly with only battery? I thought that you can put a second one into another plug in the receiver.

Did you have signal loss failsafe set to kill the engine ?.

  • @zackriden79

i dont user power distribution in 100cc airplanes why do you need one on this sport plane no one uses that even on 40% with servos at cost upward of 180 dollars
