- So I recently got some time to play the demo for the new Mana game, Visions of Mana and decided why not make a video on it for the sake of things, so here it is!

So I’m still very much looking forward to this game, but you’re correct that there are certain parts of the combat that don’t feel quite right.
For me, the biggest things I noticed were my attacks not connecting like I expected them to.
Like, on several occasions I was pretty near an enemy, I simultaneously moved the stick towards them and attacked - but instead of hitting them, I’d end up swinging my sword just I front of them… I expected more assistance from the game to anticipate what I was trying to do and help close the gap. Honestly, for me this was likely more glaring than it normally would be because I’m currently playing through Trials of Mana, which has a lot of that attack assist. Not to mention I actually just a while back completed a playthrough of Ni No Kuni 2 (coincidentally enough) and that game had the same thing.
Another thing I noticed, especially when playing with the great sword - I’d be in front of a mob of enemy’s and swing my sword, but something was missing. I didn’t quite get the satisfaction I was expecting of mowing through a bunch of enemy’s with one big wide swing. Dunno if it’s something with the hit-stop or if the damage just wasn’t as hard hitting as I would’ve expected or what. This could also be related to my current Trials of Mana play through, but it felt off nonetheless.
Two other complaints I can think of: not a fan of the big blue marks on the map indicating something of interest (chest, activity, etc.) as it makes it to where I have next to no motivation to explore. If I come upon a new wide open area but don’t see any of those blue dots on the map, what’s the point of me looking around except for battles and the syrup blobs?
Also just from what I’ve seen, the “skill tree” for the elemental/class abilities looks incredibly slim. Again, coming from Trials of Mana, the advancement in this game seems lacking compared the previous entry.
All that being said, still very much looking forward to this game. These sorts of adventures / stories have always been right up my ally, and there’s a lot more that I like than what I’m worried about.
As a huge Mana-fan of the old 2 classics I was super hyped. Now probably still gonna buy but not pre-order anymore. It takes away the dilemma of buying my only two day 1 games of the year on the same day though (Gundam Breaker 4).
There seems to be something wrong with how the analogue sticks are being registered in this game. I had similar problems playing the demo on Steam but managed to correct it by tweaking Steam controller settings as a workaround. Still.. it doesn't seem like the most talented programmers are behind this game, or at least the demo.
Imagine if they spent the time on making a game on an engine like secret but expanded the world.
It looked great, but it was boring. RPG's has to stop with waypoints, the whole sense of exploring is gone. And why cant we enter the houses?
Exactly what I felt!
yep I feel it like pretty much a barren world
Great video, I had the same thought about the demo actually dissuading me from wanting to purchase the game. Here's hoping the full release makes a better impression. For now I won't buy it until reviews are out.
Preach! I hope it ends up better than what it is!
Thanks for the impressions. I'm still interested, but it doesn't look like it's quite the home run people were hoping. Also, and it's not on you, but holy crap has RUclips degraded the bitrate of 1080p content like crazy. It's absolutely terrible now, trying to convince people to pay for the Premium sub.
People keep saying it feels bad but its the opposite i think its the best feeling claymore moveset in a really long time. The level of control really makes me feel like swinging it properly rather than flailing around all over the place.
You didn’t change your element. I played the demo too but during the boss fight, I changed to the wind element(?), it changed my weapon to lance. Tbh, I prefer the lance’s moveset too. I believe the boss is weaker to that coz the damage was crazy! I almost finished it without taking a hit too on my 2nd try.
The one thing I've hated about every mana game since the original on super Nintendo is that each subsequent game abandoned the actual ACTION RPG elements that the original had. I'm on an open world map why am i being forced into limited combat arenas with combat stances. Just let the combat happen organically without having to be it's own battle prompt. They've done this as far back as Seiken Densetsu 3.
Legend of Mana is a masterpiece.
I got those stutters too, unplayable, game bad...
My camera got a little crazy in the demo, but i like it. Very much trials of mana 2
S-E really need to start putting out better demos or none at all. 4 out of 5 demos have made me go from "might buy" to "won't buy".
I went directly to wont buy as the character would start walking slow every time and that was making me nuts
The game looks great! I'm gonna wishlist this game and the entire series.
@@tale_play play the older games first maybe (maybe even through emulation)
@@TheRetroDen There's a few on Steam already. Might consider them if they are not related.
The games looks generic and plays like old shit with boring gameplay. This game can only appeal to someone who has never played games (at least normal/good games).
Much like the FF games each entry has nothing to do with the other. Though this series did spawn from a FF game. Final Fantasy Adventures on the Game Boy 😹
@@MentokTheMindtkr So, what bonds them togheter under the same IP?
Downloaded the demo but haven't played it yet, however it's sad to see it doesn't just give you the opening of the game like Final Fantasy 16. That was both a great demo & a great game, even if it deviated gameplay wise from what the series is known for.
I tend to stay away from demos for games I know im 100% going to play but if I am to play a demo it would 100% be better if it was somewhat like the ffxvi demo or the chainsaw demo for re4r
Square Enix is just a hollow shell of its former glory. Most of their talent work for Monolift Soft or formed their own companies.
the Visions of Mana - Elemental Vessels trailer on the PlayStation channel sold me better than the demo. Imo. Still getting day one cause I really don't care about getting another game for the rest of the year.
And that's fair! Everyone is allowed to enjoy whatever they want!
I hate handholding! That is a no buy.
It's a weird choice to have you start off from somewhere in the middle of the game instead of at the beginning like pretty much every other Square demo the past few years (including the Trials of Mana demo). I'm still probably gonna buy it since this is the one RPG i'm really interested in this year but it does feel pretty stiff to play.
Not that weird. They clearly wanted to show off the new features (elemental spirits more implemented into the gameplay, multiple characters and mounts) instead of having us sit through a possibly slow start. But the typical modern in game 'manual' being forced into your face is getting old and might be overwhelming. The only worse thing is when games force you through an unskippable tutorial, making you jump 3 times etc.
Looks good and feels just like every other MANA game. feels fine!
Trials of mana feels a lot better in combat. I literally played the Visions demo and then jumped into a new game of Trials right after to compare. It's night and day, unfortunately.
Not even close. I was playing Trials, played some of the Visions demo, and hopped right back into Trials. The combat is entirely different.
character models look (subjectively) horrendous.
On some cutscenes they do look like a discounted playmobil lol
Troll
Goblin
honesly i feel the same. The demo is overwelming right from the start
Exactly I dont get what they were expecting
feels like a clone of Tales of Arise
I was looking forward to this game but they effed up 2 key elements:
no multiplayer: i could live with that ok… no problem
combat system: as an action rpg you have to nail this and they horribly failed…
why is it not possible for square Enix to make a decent mana game since the SNES era????
I swear they could just port the originals at this point and it would be better!
@@TheRetroDen says the guy who mentions in his own video he never played another Mana-game🙃
You meant since the ps1. Legend of Mana is a masterpiece.
@@chesterfieldthe3rd929 the game was so different in set-up compared to the previous 3 games.. other publishers might have called it a spinoff.
Combat and exploration, the elements that define the Mana series, are awful. 😞
Aside from gorgeous graphics like playing a studio ghibli anime movie, everything else gameplay/story-wise is so generic, jenky & outdated from decades ago. It feels like this level of low effort design is more suited as a mobile game experience... not AAA gaming from the makers of Final Fantasy 16 & ff7r 😭
Well, despite me agreeing with you I have to clear something up, Square Enix is indeed a publisher and a developer but this game isnt being made by the same team that makes the final fantasy games.
Square enix has various developer teams and the ones that made the games you mentioned were Creative Business Unit III which I dont think were involved at all with this game.
Demo was a 6/10 at most. Embarrassing for this to be their ~big~ game and it just sucks.
Another shitty Mana game. I still have nightmares about Trials of Mana being terribly boring and already outdated upon release.
😮
@@drypotato6990 Quite a disgusting taste, to be honest... I love quality action-RPG games (and not only). Ys series, Kingdom Hearts, Star Ocean, etc. What I see in this game is as if it was created for 10 year olds who have never played games and this is enough for them to have fun.
@@cloverflover6452 Yeah, so, just not your taste. Happy to hear those other series do make you happy. I for one tried about 4 times to like Kingdom Hearts and I didn't succeed. I'll be the grown-up though and assume that's a matter of taste and not about KH being shitty games. I hope you'll survive your dramatic nightmares you're still having about ToM☹ It must be terrible to be so overly sensitive.
@@drypotato6990wait a minute, I'm one of those people who loved mana series and loved turn based too, Don't generalize everyone lol
I honestly wish they had some the same thing they did with the first Mana game and just made a 3D 1/1 remake of Seiken Densetsu 3 instead of modernizing it with Trials. Much prefer the original remake to the "updated" version of it's sequel
Whats crazy is that every video ive seen its glitchy. Im not even trying to hate on the game. I played no future for every trials character. But man wtf happened. The ui in visions is straight doodoo.
Im hoping later in the game it will feel like relink with new abilities.
