Another journalist actually touched base and it was due to some reference in the past where Distrowatch had linked to a tainted repository that had been considered a security threat. Seen several things on it, and double checked my own sources when I heard. I am not restricted. Groups I am part of not restricted. Forums I am on there no restricted. Others can see my Linux posts.
I dont use Linux that often, but Linux in itself saved me loads of times, often repairing Windows 10/11 with it. Any corporation that tries to harm linux, indirectly or directly is not only an insult to Linux users, but also windows users who rarely use Linux for example for data recovery and what not.
I made the leap from "use Linux to fix Win 95 errors" to "why use Windows when Linux has to fix it all the time" and use a Linux desktop almost exclusively for the last 15+ years.

I still use Facebook. I talk about Linux all the time. I'm a member of 4 different Linux Facebook groups. All 4 are thriving without issues, with the exception of occasional mentions of Distrowatch.
Despite what is publicly announced, I feel like some of this comes from a surge in popularity of Kali linux. It may be due to the stigmatism around it. I noticed this in the "linix community", there was a surge of posts and around it and hacking. The page was recently removed. Yet a select few that are void of Kali and more specifically hacking content and posts that are still around. That said, we will never truly know the behind the scenes influences that passed their decision.
Right after this came out, it was a non-story. Almost 100% guarantee it was their AI moderation software. Now that humans no longer monitor FB content. I admin a FB group and frequently see the AI BOTs removing content (often for no reason) FB uses a ton of Linux themselves.
Everybody should reach out and contact their State Representive both in the House and Senate regarding this. Also email the Whitehouse. This has become way too out of control.
I left facebook years ago (more than 10 yrs) I am seriously considering making both my machines Purely Linux as Microsoft no longer updates MS 10 in October. I think it's simple. They killed moderation, so there is no way for them to distinguish between bad and good posts. 99,9 % of hackers with bad intent use Linux, but the overall desktop market is just 4-5 %, with even less being active on Facebook for obvious reasons. So from their single-minded, profit-seeking perspective, shutting the whole community on FB down was the easiest move. They didn't expect the public to care.
Shorely there are lawyers or software developers out there that can defend Linux in a court of law. Facebook is pro Microsoft or maybe MAC so this happens. Without Linux you can not build windows as it is programed in Linux in the early stages. Linux is also used for business servers as it is more secure than Windows in relation to viruses.

A Fedora group on Facebook I am a member of seems to be operating as normal. It seems the blocks are selective to some but not all groups.
