Honestly, seeing Linux grow since 2018 has been amazing! All the amazing work put into making Linux work great is really a testament to this great community.
To be fair if you did put in the same amount of effort per video you'd have to rename the show to 'This Last couple of months in Linux' which doesn't quite have the same ring lol
I can say for sure that he is a huge fan of Jhonen Vasquez's JTHM and Sin City. Very impressive to see it done by a smaller guy, and love his storytelling, music and editing. Thanks for making me aware of this awesomeness.
I’ve been a follower of James Lee's videos for some time now, and I really admire his VFX work since I also do some myself. After watching his video, I instantly switched to Mint to give it a try-because why the f** not? I've been working with it for a couple of weeks now, and I’m loving it! I’ve discovered and played around with so many stuff that it feels like I’m a kid again tinkering with my Dad's PC. Clip Studio Paint and my Cintiq work just fine with Bottles (caffe-9.2 and Flatseal). Other tools that run flawlessly on Linux include the Unity engine, Reaper(I was impressed that my 3rd gen Scarlett worked out of the box, Kinda shocked ASIO is not a thing in here x_D), and Blender. I also installed Steam and Heroic Games Launcher, and every game I’ve tested runs perfectly(I'm not an Online kind of player tho). The best part is, I haven’t opened Windows ever since I made the switch.
I had no idea who this guy was and I'm not even a vfx/editor/artist/whatever, but he motivated me to switch to Linux. Loving it. Never seen your channel before but watching you react was very interesting. Loving it.
First of all, I haven't watched James before, but he seems like a great storyteller and actor with amazing editing style. It's just something I've never seen done so well before. On the topic - deciding to try Linux and drastically changing his workflow was something I was surprised to hear, especially that he seems to genuinely like it and didn't give up. I assume this is mostly due to the poor experience he's had on Windows. He is an artist after all, a video editor. And judging from what I've heard many say in the recent years, creative work, development and fast, snappy multitasking is just plain better on other systems compared to Windows. Sure, not everything is perfect, but as many I think would agree, macOS is just one example where snappier multitasking, plain better file access over a network, and more robust creative tools dominate. Linux provides similar benefits in other aspects like privacy and modularity, including working with files over a network. Just get Windows network shares out of my sight. Windows may give the "best" OOB experience (arguably not better than Apple's ecosystem, regardless of how much I dislike Apple) but is riddled with painful obstacles that hinder your actual work much more over time. Trust me, I've been a Windows user since forever, but the first time a few years ago I decided to dump a few distros on an old slow hard drive I had laying around I had pretty much flawless gaming experience playing GTA V. I haven't had the chance to game on Linux before as I use it on VMs for testing and software development, but today I expect gaming and creative work to be even better. And since I already use FOSS or cross-platform software for pretty much everything, switching away from Windows is just a matter of taking the time to configure everything to my liking.
I would love to try and install a Linux os on a external drive that I can plug in and boot to and unplug and boot back to windows11. I have nottried in like a year. I do know it do something odd with the time zone.
Here's what I've been using on Linux (PopOS) for 6 months or so. I'm a VFX/Programmer btw... - DaVinci Resolve -Blackmagic Fusion -Nuke -Krita -Inkscape
Also, forgot to mention, I'm giving Autograph a try. Not in my roster yet, but pretty cool, and the closest there is to an After Effects replacement in Linux (layer based).
Nodes is definitely the way many things are going. Blender with it's impressive Geometry nodes and even GIMP has a node editor but with an extremely high barrier to entry.
I would recommend using something other than a bleep to censor words because RUclips's transcription service can identify those as swear words and demonetise your channel or give you a community guideline strike. It has happened before. Now I haven't seen it in the few lines of the Closed Captions I had turned on, but if you see [ __ ] then YT thinks you swore and it can affect you.
i think you meant debian based. i wouldn't recommend ubuntu to anyone based on their past actions if we're talking about corporations and using your information/advertising/etc. that being said, currently i've been switching my clients to linux mint and it's been a much better experience for them.
I said goodby to Adobe at the same time I booted Microsoft out of my life, and went full blown Linux.🐧 If they made their stuff to work on Linux I may still use some of it, but NOOOOOO!!!: Adobe would never do anything for us peasants in Linuxland!🤨 A-holes!!!🤬 Needless to say, besides this being freaking wicked far out good artistically, it is very informative, and I especially liked when he got to Linux, and even more so when he addressed the business/marketing/politics stuff!
I just love how these migration videos are becoming more and more popular, maybe an inflection point, let's hope the chain reaction keeps growing

I suggested this video to Brody Robertson to react to about a week ago, really happy to see you reacting to it
His video was the reason why my friend finally properly trying linux on his main pc not a old surface 2 laptop!
The thumbnail is EPIC!
Did not expect James Lee mentioned on this channel of all places lol
Destination Linux interview, please?

21:30 the only thing you'll break by trying it, is your preconceived notions of what a computer should do 😁
That style reminds me a lot of "Max Headroom." Minus the stutter and the wild backgrounds.
now that you say that, I see.
I never thought of it that way, but it kinda makes sense.
Well, Max had a suit on and the stutter was part of the angle I think.
Omg I love James Lee animations I kinda mention him in my stuff before he has some crazy editing skills

Some people have gotten Affinity Photo to work in linux using Bottles.
Thumbnail goes hard
His call to action at the end _is sooooo good_. I love it so much.

Never seen your channel before but watching you react was very interesting. Loving it.
His animations style is like invader sim but darker
the artstyle he uses reminds me a strong part of INVADER ZIM
I am running affinity using bottles in CachyOS and Nobara just fine. Oh and there is a script too😅🇸🇪🖖
17:08 He's doing the thing!

holy crap, he is really good at editing

His effect give me a massive Sin City vibe
Great video. I'm glad to see adoption growing. I hope never to have to use Windows ever again.
This guy's style reminds me of a movie called Ink. it's an indie movie that not many people have seen
It was very entertaining. Let us know if using all those other programs work on Linux. If you try them. Thank you.

I hope you watched the original Breaking up with Adobe from him. Nothing to do with linux, but still One of my favorites.
I did go back and watch that after the recording this. Really good video!
Outstanding work. Thank you.
Where is the video about choosing something Ubuntu Based? Nothing came up in the corner during "Final Thoughts."
For me, it is like a mixture between Van from LWDW and Sin City. 👋👋👋
what a crazy superb doubleLOLz on the f`ing ROCKS!! :)
5:48 wow

James Lee's video's are insane.
Reminds me of the Genesis game Comix i had love hate relationship with that game
The drivers of my Huion tablet sucks on Linux so F.
Nah. The style is just cringe…
less cringe than your comment. A LOT less
lol. Your cope is far more entertaining than either of these videos. Thanks for replying.
@@TheGreatCarRadio glad to be able to answer to your desperate cries for attention
It’s always fun watching sinsitive boys like you try to make their hurt feelings my problem. Keep at tiger, you might get me yet…
James Lee made a video about you, it's called "The Cringe Detective".
You should give it a watch, lol!
I just love how every section title is in the style of a scene .NFO file 😆
