I am currently working in my landscape ideas and plans for around our new greenhouse. It’s still early here in Wisconsin so the planting will be a ways off. But I’ll definitely be taping the process and getting something out there early summer. Thanks for your comments 😊
Your gardens are absolutely gorgeous. Thank you so much for sharing and don’t let people’s negative comments affect you at all.......not worth it. Thank you again and please share more as time goes by. I would love to see more videos :)
Even though I am more of a formal gardener I thoroughly enjoyed your garden tour. As a keen diy person I understand and apreciate your hard work. Thanks for sharing and motivating me to get going to my garden choirs.
Love the large scale plantings and drifts. Love the butterfly garden. Like the attention to detail with the mulching and clean cut line between grass/garden. Hope to duplicate some of this in my garden to be.
What an outstanding garden, Dawn!! I am in love with your videos - the drifts, rivers of flowers , creative merging of garden into woodland , everything is just amazing! I had a little hard time trying to figure out the layout of different gardens - maybe a drone shot of the property sometime? Thanks for sharing this beauty with us - it made my day!!
Your garden is such an inspiration to me! Thank you for sharing. I love the large drifts of each variety and multi season interest. Truly stunning. How do you water everything?
Thanks so much. If we get into a drought situation or if I have added new plants I’ll water by hand but most of my plant choices can take some lack of water thankfully.
Stunning gardens. That hosta almost looks make believe; I’ve never seen that variety get so big! You looked like Alice in Wonderland standing beside it :-)
Absolutely gorgeous! I’m not a formal garden fan but yours works so well with your garden. So many beautiful plants and flowers. Do you have a list of the flowers you have growing. I lost my Lamb’s ear a few summers ago during a drought. I honestly don’t think I’ve seen any garden as beautiful as yours. I live in the woods so I have to find areas to put my sun loving flowers. I have a center area inside of our drive . It’s just woodsy drive but beautiful. My hope to to put hosta and shade loving plants in it. You garden gives me so much inspiration. Thank you for sharing your beautiful garden with us.
I appreciate your thoroughness in showing your beautiful gardens and adding the names of the plants and pictures when in bloom. I'll be watching more of your videos. Thank you.
Beautifully designed gardens, balanced and shows contrasts and highlights at the same time. Those purple heuchera pick up and enhance the purple in the coneflowers. I love how you use big swaths of one plant, so you have strong definition of each batch of colour and texture. Gardens that are too full of single plantings, all crowded together create a messy and chaotic look that make me dizzy. Your garden is peaceful and calming as you drift along. I just want to jump in and walk along the path in person, sit on that red bench and read. Thanks for sharing!
Beautiful garden❤ Can you let us know how you care for your plants, water, feed, pruning? EVERYTHING looks amazing. Thank you for sharing. You have green hands!
Thank you. A lot of my plants that are established do not get much assistance from me. They get rain from Mother Nature and that is about all. I do water anything I have planted that summer or the previous year. Otherwise they are mostly on their own unless we get a serious drought. Then I water. Our lawn does not get water either. I cut all my gardens back in spring. Everything stays up (except plants like hosta’s which get mushy). I hand trim my boxwoods as needed. I am not much for overshaped boxwoods. I do not feed any of my perennials in the ground. I do feed by container plants a couple of time during the summer with Bloom Boost. Other than good potting soil that is it. I am all about choosing lower care plants 😊 Hope this helps somewhat!
Hello Dawn I am new to your Channel. I am loving what I am seeing. Your gardens are Absolutely Gorgeous a lot of hard work to keep gardens so Gorgeous. Oh my stars! I can’t believe how gorgeous your yard is! There are so many ideas I adore and would like to adopt, but where to start? I can’t imagine ever needing to go away on vacation with all of that beauty in your gardens. Thank you for the motivation. Blessings…daisy
@@SeasonalDesignsbyDawn I understand, I'm the same way! I love how you can actually see the beauty of each specimen by planting in larger swatches. Just beautiful. I love how you show how things looked when it is no longer in bloom. Are you the only gardener? If so, wowzers. I use the Supertunia Vista Bubblegum at my home and my clients. Have you ever transplanted your Sum & Substance Hosta? I have mine under my Amsonia and am afraid if I move it I may loose it.
Thank you 😊 I maintain the gardens but my hubby maintains the lawn and if I beg he does my edging. But he has done the hardscaping (walkways) and I do the planting etc. I have transplanted my sum and substance hosta in spring. That is the best time to dig it up and divide or move. I also grew one in a container for the longest time and just recently popped it into the ground. Just try to get a good root ball when you move it. Keep me posted!!
@@SeasonalDesignsbyDawn thanks for the information on the Sum & Substance. I have to get it out from under my Amsonia. I think I will try it in a pot. I found a nice one that will work well. You do a wonderful job in the garden. I hope you continue to make videos I'm learning a lot from you. Thanks again.
the butterfly garden is all "full sun?" I want to put some purple coneflowers in part shade...hope they make it.... I want to copy your garden for my backyard!
You have a really beautiful garden and so much space! I have a small ornamental widllife-friendly garden in the suburbs of a big city in central Europe. I work long hours and have little time for the garden, I am less busy only at the weekend. I have over 130 roses. My lawn is getting smaller by the minute, it's ugly anyway, overgrown with weeds and moss. Yours is sheer perfection. Do you work in the garden alone?
Your space sound absolutely lovely! That is a lot of roses I bet that is so pretty. I do the garden alone for the most part. Occasionally I can get my hubby to help me edge in spring and he does all the lawn care. He also cuts anything like big tree branches and such. But the garden is all me☺️
@@SeasonalDesignsbyDawn So it seems that our situation is identical :-) If you feel like taking a look at my little garden, you can find it on my channel, there are quite a few videos about it. The last but one is about the birds which visit my garden.
I just discovered your videos - wow.. amazing gardens!! Based on your plantings Im assuming you must not have problems with deer? Is your property fenced? I'm a lover of old English roses, but love filling in with cottage style plantings as you have here! Thx you for sharing your beautiful space!.
Welcome!! Glad your here 🥰 It is not fenced and I do deal with deer. I cannot grow tulips because they eat them lunch lol. I do try to grow things that are not their favorites. Darn deer 🙄
WOWWWWWW. 😍😍😍. Your gardening AND landscaping skills are OUTSTANDING. Did you go to school for any of this ? Was such an awesome experience to see such beauty and care. Thank you so much for sharing !!!
Thanks so much for your kind comments 😊 No school for this just lots of reading and looking at ideas etc. I’m getting ready to landscape around my new greenhouse this year and it takes me quite a while to get it all laid out on paper. I’ll probably do a video of that process.
At 6:06 on your video....where did you get what looks like a hitching post with that fabulous lantern? Is it electric? Wonderful focal point. Is it available for purchase? I am in midMichigan-how far North are you in Wisconsin? I am also getting a green house and wonder how your heating in winter is going? We are now listed as zone 6A (from 5). Are the fans you put in your green house effective for you?
That is an electric lantern. We purchased it at a local light store here in the Milwaukee area. My husband made that post for it to hang on. We’ve had it here now for 30 years so I’m not sure if it’s available but I’m sure there are ones like it out there. I am in south east Wisconsin. We heat our greenhouse with the stove and a supplemental greenhouse heater for the cold nights. However, we shut it down in January February, and March and really don’t add any supplemental heat unless we happen to be out there on a sunny day in the middle of winter. The fans are fabulous to have fans to either push air down or pull air out. Good luck with your Greenhouse!
Thanks for sharing, your property is gorgeous. Do you have a rodent issue? If so, what method do you use to control the damage from gopher, moles or voles?
Thanks so much. I don’t have a lot of issues with rodents. We had a cat for years and now we have a dog and I really feel like they just keep the rodents away. If the deer see my dog in the window they run away as well lol. Works out well for me!
@@SeasonalDesignsbyDawn thanks for responding, I really appreciate your reply. There is a new home development two blocks away. I've noticed dozers so I'm sure that is contributing to my garden's issue. Well I absolutely love your videos and subscribed immediately. Happy gardening.
Thank you and yes I do have deer. Unfortunately, it is impossible to keep them away so I try to grow things that deer don’t necessarily like to eat. I do have hostas that get eaten in some areas every year, it’s almost impossible for me to grow tulips but I try anyways lol. I also spray using a deer repellent, especially in spring when everything is coming up, and the deer are looking for a nice fresh buffet.
My dog Anna keeps them away. Which does nothing for my sleep. She senses them outside and gets up and barks in the middle of night at them. Honestly we are surrounded by a huge prairie and I they do hang out there a lot. Safer than coming close to the house where that crazy dog might be. 😜
Green! I am from the drought area of California, which is all of it. You must live back east. Beautiful garden! What USDA zone are you in? What are you growing / making in the fall?
Hello!! I garden in Wisconsin zone 5. It looks green here until we get covered with snow and below zero temps lol. Fall here this year is so warm. Temps at night 15-20 degrees above avg. so I still have all my summer annuals. I’m changing things out to fall now but when the snow flies it will be winter containers and projects in the new greenhouse I hope. What do grow with the drought in CA?
@@SeasonalDesignsbyDawn hello! I am in Zone 9b. The native soil is caliche. Therefore, I have raised beds. The state is trying to get people to convert to Xeriscaping. I’m not a fan. I am in the process of killing back the water loving plants. I am researching what I can grow here that requires little to no water. I want more than just succulents, but it is very challenging because not only do the plants have to be drought tolerant, they must be heat tolerant as well. So far, I have come up with salvias and bougainvilleas. I have lemon and lime trees, which I irrigate for 5 minutes once a week. It is very difficult to find plants that require little to no water. Anyhow, I love your garden!!
@@sherylchapman4168 ok that sounds extremely challenging!! What about "Moonshine" yarrow (Achillea x ''Moonshine'') and grasses? Esparto grass (Lygeum spartium), hardy in USDA zones 9 to 11 prefers a dry, sunny site but tolerates some shade. Growing 1 to 3 feet tall and wide, it bears interesting, bird-like spring flowers above silver-blue foliage. Thanks for being here and good luck to you in the garden!!
Thank you!! We do have deer but they tend to eat my garden away from the house where my dog doesn’t see them. Right now the are devouring my hostas in my woodland garden 😠
Hello and welcome!! Thanks so much. I do have deer and bunny issues. I was looking outside where I thought I could hide some tulips and the tops have already been eaten….sigh. Deer are hit or miss. I do use a deer repellent especially in spring. That can help. I also try not to plant things deer like to eat. Though they will eat anything. For spring I plant a lot of daffodils. I do have some hostas but the ones up by the house I think are protected by the boxwood hedge. Plus I have a dog who likes to bark at the deer and run after them. That helps too lol. Glad your hear 😊
Thank you. I’m in Wisconsin. It could also be that I just don’t pronounce it right!! I’m definitely not an expert in the pronunciation field. Lol I do try.
Two questions: are you in Canada or the US, and what hardiness zone are you in? I dream about turning our front lawn into a butterfly garden but I'm in Alberta and zone 3ish.
Hello!! I’m in the US Wisconsin zone 5. Look up prairie plants for your area. I’m certain you’ll find lots!! Also search how to turn lawn into prairie. Good luck.
The plants are lovely but I cannot help but wonder where are all of your pollinators? I have many of these plants in a wildflower meadow, except I have all native varieties and we have hundreds and hundreds of pollinators all over my plants. I honestly do not see a single pollinator in your gardens. Where are they all?😢
No worries they are there. Go to my Instagram channel where I constantly have stories and reels of all the pollinators going to town on my flowers. I have an 8 acre Prairie that surrounds are home and house that actually has a lot of pollinators. In fact, our Prairie was designated a monarch waystation, because we have so many move through here and all of the native flowers we have in the prairie. Thanks!!
What a stunning garden! I liked the way you showed the pictures of the plants which had flowered earlier. Great vid.
Thanks so much 😊

Very beautiful garden! You must not have deers in your area!?
Thank you!! We do have deer but they tend to eat my garden away from the house where my dog doesn’t see them. Right now the are devouring my hostas in my woodland garden 😠
Just found your channel. I'm in love with your garden. Do you have deer problem? If so, how do you handle it?
Hello and welcome!! Thanks so much. I do have deer and bunny issues. I was looking outside where I thought I could hide some tulips and the tops have already been eaten….sigh. Deer are hit or miss. I do use a deer repellent especially in spring. That can help. I also try not to plant things deer like to eat. Though they will eat anything. For spring I plant a lot of daffodils. I do have some hostas but the ones up by the house I think are protected by the boxwood hedge. Plus I have a dog who likes to bark at the deer and run after them. That helps too lol. Glad your hear 😊
Beautiful. Do you have in ground irrigation?
Thank you. I do not. It’s the ole hose and water as needed.
Gorgeous garden. What zone is it?
I’m in zone 5 Wisconsin. You ?
Where are you located? The reason I ask is I hear different pronunciations for words so wondering if it's a regional thing. Great gardens!
Good luck.
Beautiful! Are supertunias a perennial?
No they are an annual :)
Thanks!!
