    I'm still here. I edit the videos and run the site. I wanted to give other teachers a platform to show their skills. I am not an expert on everything that is for sure! I will be back with more videos in the future but I have been very happy and lucky to be able to provide other teachers the chance to be on Submissions 101.

    If by “fake” you mean performing a movement to illicit a certain reaction (in this case sitting back) then yes. In my opinion this technique shown this way is useful if you actually have a reliable and effective forward throw that one can do on their feet (i.e. not drop knee seoi nage).

    Hi, thanks for the comment. I agree with you on the combination and I fear I explained myself poorly. I would not do uchimata -> tani otoshi as a combination for the reasons you stated. Well said! What I meant to say is tani otoshi works well when I make a committed attack that is successfully defended. (continue…)

    Nice demonstration and explanation. I use this throw in Judo if my uchimata attacks were defended especially against good, upright players. I like to keep my hand on the lapel and I use that as part of my throw.

    I was not trying to put Ari doewn at all, i was just saying that Ari knows a lot about JJ but since he knows some people who are more experienced than himself he lets them put some vids on. Ari is great at what he does, all but respect to that guy.

    When I try the attack a second or third time the other guy sees the beginnings of a uchimata attack that’s when I would switch to tani otoshi because he’s thrusing his hips and body forward to defend uchimata. It’s hard to explain. It’s a feel and timing thing for me.

    Im not sure about going uchimata>tane otoshi because the commitment to the uchimata takes you too far under uke. Much prefer tai-otoshi>tane otoshi.
    For an uchimata, I much prefer to counter w/ Ko-uchi-gake/Ko-uchi-gari and uchi-gake/uchi-gari. You can use them to follow an ippon seoi nage as well but id rather fake an seoi nage because you have to commit to an uchimata but if countered, sincee youre already in between uke's leg, you can hook either his legs from the INSIDE.
    Just a preference.

    Yep and a very easy throw thanks. In wrestling it crosses, and it is a really good move for taking someone down thanks for sharing.

    The counter was taught outside of the tournament obviously

    I'm 13 and a yellow belt but I am in U14 and today in a tournament( my first one) and we were taught this one counter which is basically tani otoshi but you're already behind them. I used it and it should've been an ippon but the refs talked for and then I don't even think it was a Yuko. I only got a wazari which even the opponent thought it was an ippon And said he was lucky. I ended up losing the match by him getting a hold down

    Not so much a fake as an option. He mentions in the vid that if there is no reaction when you get your opponent off balance then go for the throw. But if he does react, this is another option to catch them off balance.

    this video shows /watch?v=ObYpDQAGEHM uchimata to kouchi gari which is my favorite combo.
    one funny thing w. uchimata is you try it, you put yourself in position to have tani otoshi used against you.
    when you say 'counter' do you mean continue to a 2nd move?
    I actually use the inner leg hook to setup my uchimata as it forces them to be unstable for fraction of a second for me to move into uchimata.
    its opposite of your move but the great thing: both work!!
    And just top be different than you

    is tani otoshi really dangerous? if so, how do you avoid hurting uke?

    • @AdamMohamed-cq9fv
      @AdamMohamed-cq9fv 7 лет назад +1

      X F its not. and besides that uke should know how to breakfall

    Yikes! Say what you will about Ari (and I understand the criticisms from years past) but he’s done a great service to the BJJ/grappling community with Submissions 101. I’m sure there are many people who decided to start BJJ because they came across one of Ari’s videos. I’d love to do something like Submissions 101 for Judo but I don’t have the time or desire to get pooped on by the Judo community first, and then by everyone else.

    what happens if they wear a T shirt and you cant get a good/ strong hold on ?

    • @NoirOneification
      @NoirOneification 10 лет назад +5

      tani otoshi is a throw that doesn't require a particular set up to work. all you really need is good body contact(chest to side), with good drive and sinking your weight beneath his, with your foot shooting in deep. The setup he's doing would work with no gi, he may be gripping the gi and showing it with a gi on, but all you really need is a good hold of the arm on the tricept or something like that, to pull and control the arm, and a a nice collar tie or even an overhook with your other arm. There is nothing in his setup that wouldn't allow it to be done no gi.
      Also T-shirts work just fine to grip and control someone with.
      Remember they don't tear BEFORE you actually grip em and yank the person down with it. You might ruin their shirts, after you've driven them to the ground with a throw or takedown, and/or choked the guy out with his own t-shirt. T-shirts can tear, but they aren't too fragile to use as gripping tools against the guy. :P

    What a good scam - faking the first throw then stepping around.
