Lewis & Clark had their prized air rifles that they used to tame the west...
It was rapid fire, quiet, rifled, tube fed and fired a 46 caliber ball 40 times before needing a refill. The 1780 Girandoni air gun fired 22 rounds in under 30 seconds, and was used by the Austrians against Napoleon.

Thank you, I found the video very interesting. Where can I find an air rifle like that? Mike

Only a few of those remain in the country. Sad to say... they just don't make them like that anymore ...

Pellet rifles have come a long way. More power and quiet. Dove, quail, rabbit, etc, quietly. Getting food without drawing attention to yourself. Great video Mike.

There are some interesting air guns out there. I was told about a .357 one that is full auto capable it throws a 121 gr .357 pellet about 800fps.
And one that looks interesting for hog hunting.
    A 50 cal. 300gr pellet a bit over 900fps and a 500gr just under 800fps

pellet rifles are essential in SHTF or WROL scenarios. one can easily carry 500 rounds in their back pocket in a pellet can .....and some pellet rifles are good for self defense..especially the Airforce Texan ..that rifle shoots a .50 caliber round with 500 lbs of energy behind it...its a 1 shot deal, but make that shot count..especially if your life is in danger.

    Mike,
Pellets guns in general have developed FAR beyond your presented knowledge base. I have myself, taken wild hogs to 250 pounds as well as large deer with them already with a .30 caliber, and am using a .25 caliber to dispatch coyotes on local ranches. All my rifles employ moderators for added stealth, and all have an ample energy at the ranges I'm shooting to be human. One thing I've noted is the added quietness does not distress the animals as does the huge crack boom of a large caliber rifle. I've been afforded multiple shots on groups of hogs which, if using powder burners, would never have presented itself. As you mentioned, range is somewhat limiting and there is a higher level of skill involved as projectile drop must be compensated - but it nicely bridges the gap between my bow and a .338 Lepua!
    ~Keep your powder dry~

My latest ...Pellet rifle is the Gamo ACCU air rifle...its a spring piston, underlever ,single shot..I have it in .22 ...it comes with a nice 3-9x40 scope with adjustable objective(AO)..built solid...the barrel is rifled..with the thick polymer stock ..PyramydAir.com...has it on sale for $179..the rifle is chambered in .177 too.

In your experience is .22 or .17 better and why? I have my thoughts, but not enough experience to make any worthwhile determinations. Mike

    • @ShowemRight
      @ShowemRight 8 лет назад

when it comes to pellets..the .177 is a fast ..zipping thru type of round...I set up a wood paint stirrer up...and the .177 pokes holes through it all day long...on the other hand ..the .22 pellet turns the paint stirrer into tooth picks..i mean splintered wood everywhere....I think the .177 traveling 1,200-1,400 fps has way more penetration ..for instance...my .177 can pass through the 2x4...My .22 wont...though perhaps at the speed of a .177 it will...a .177 in hollow point ..is a very serious round....especially with the speed it reaches...the energy is not much..but that speed could be devastating....not could...it is devastating. passing through over an inch of pine wood..you have to take it serious....not pressure treated but..dried pine 2x4 wood on the 4 inch side....I had targets set up on my saw horse..and the targets i missed the saw horse got the pellets through it....and that saw horse is a 14 year old 2x4.

That sounds like the difference between .223 and the 7.62. Small is quick and large is impact. Mike

My first pellet..was a Gamo too..in .177 from Walmart for $149..its called the Gamo Silent Cat....very powerful rifle in such a small caliber....i'm able to pass through a 2x4 ...on the 4 inch side like butter..i guess it helps with 1,200 fps (feet per second)

EVANIX produced a .30 caliber PCP repeater...the distributers were selling them..and I believe our Government put a halt to it...some of the higher end PCP pellet air rifles and Pistols have rotary magazines..but expect to cough out between $500 -$3000 in some cases.

I have a break barrel type pellet gun(one cock) that does indeed get up to 1000fps, and is rifled so its quite accurate and surprising punch even though it's far from top of the line. And they can actually be fatal to humans and have been but I think that's purely by rare chance. I love mine because it allows me practice within city limits without breaking laws or attracting attention. Can hit a pop can at about 50-60 yards with a scope.

Everybody talks Gamo. I had a Gamo Hunter and the trigger pull was awful. It also shot 1100 + ft per second and cracked when I shot it. Gave it away, did not like it at all, pretty with scope and all. My recent purchase that I really like is a Walther Terrus. 1050 ft per second, no crack, open sights, good trigger pull and not that expensive. Easy group at 75 ft and I have just started to practice.

Plus these me 177 and 22 caliber break barrels shoot 950 to 1600 ft per second and I have killed Bohr's with them like a hundred or 200 pound pig so I think it would serve for defense if you shot in the right place if somebody broke in your home and you had to protect your family

I think you're out a date buddy they actually do make air rifles for self defense look at their shotguns now and 20 gauge 12 gauge look at look at that 12 gauge and Pistol the man kills a Russian wild boar with it one shot I think it would be good for home defense and they also make fully automatic 9 mm air rifles that are legal and have the capacity of a regular 9 M pistol

Hey Mike. Sorry, but I still don't understand, are you a sort of survival guru? Keep up the good content.

    • @nostressmike

LOL People that know me personally have a hard time describing what it
is that I do. Because I've done so much, when you blend them together I
come out somewhat odd in a good way to good people and I am stupid to
      the evil folk I encounter.
If I was survival guru I know more about air guns and demonstrate some bush-craft skills, but I try to avoid bad situations. This could be a long reply, I will have to make a video. Mike

Get spring or nitro pistol break barrel models in .22 for long term reliavility, avoid pcp's because you won´t be able to refill the scuba tanks and you will eventually have a lot of problems with valves and o-rings.
