Seriously, in the last 3-4 years the prices of effects have gone from 1-10 keys to 15 MINIMUM for footstep trails and around 3 for exorcism on bad weapons
The market price crashing if Valve re-releases the old spells is a point in favor of re-releasing them. The TF2 market has some VASTLY inflated prices and it needs some violent readjustment at this point.
Personally, part of the reason I liked spells back during 2013 was specifically because of how relatively easy they were to get ahold of. You could spice up your loadout without sinking double/triple digit numbers into any given cosmetic loadout, almost all the effects looked neat, and they didn't really interfere with the normal unusual market since there was virtually no overlap between unusual particle effects and the effects that Spells offered. What you're suggesting, and I am VEHEMENTLY against this, is effectively bringing back what Valve did during 2014 where they added strangifiers, killstreak kits, etc. to crates. However, they did not add it to the basic Unusual sub-1% chance, but they double-locked it behind a second check *if* you got the first check. It made an otherwise fun, largely low cost or even free event that everyone could partake in the most cold-blooded cash grab I had seen Valve pull at the time. So no, that is not how I would like to see Spells brought back. I do acknowledge the botting problem as well, as it was rampant, but that's less something that can be fully prevented and more a pros and cons type of argument. Locking spells behind crates essentially just adds to the unusual market and can rapidly force people to shell out large sums of money or spend a lot of time trading to get what they want, making them more exclusive when it feels like the original intent was the exact opposite. I do think the 'gifts on the map' approach is also a bad one, since looking at it from another angle, it's disruptive to normal gameplay and it's entirely possible to get locked out of getting your gift entirely just because the other team is too good, or griefers are deliberately camping known present spots to try and stop you from getting yours. I personally lean toward making them Contract rewards since while numerous, there is an upper limit as to how many one person can earn per year and do not otherwise disrupt gameplay, balancing accessibility and exclusivity.
".. disruptive to normal gameplay .." Halloween mode IS THE DISRUPTION from normal gameplay lol! No one can play normally during Halloween, instead it's full of fun gimmicks. 🤣
Considering the boost TF2 has gotten with 64-bit support and VScripting it feels like adding a few new spells would be harmless enough. As long as they're handled responsibly and not just churned out factory-style like the hats or maps, at least enough so that it wouldn't cost a player's life savings to enjoy them
I think bringing back spells would be different than the crate depression. One was a glitch and the other is bc people are hoarding items and price gouging. Secondly I don’t care about the TF2 economy, valve clearly doesn’t and I think limiting peoples ability to get a freaking cosmetic in a video game is lame
If valve wants more money, and they do, they will bring the 2014 spells back, and make them return every year during October. The incel traders malding about hween spells are the same people holding everything for ransom.
Yes I firmly believe spells should come back. Perhaps a new set of spells different from the old ones, but they are a really good way to personalize your weapons.
There's no high pitch spells. That's a map effect from maps with merasmus's wheel of doom rolling tiny heads. Also small side note. I really hope new spells gets added if they fit as there are 3 people who own 80% of all spells on the market together. Lots of inside trading and general price manipulation, new spells would be good for the overall market as nobody can really enjoy them. I don't like spells myself, but eh, good change to add new ones, but not readd the old ones.
I Honestly would love to see them come back, I would prefer they aren't something you need to pay for to get a chance at but if that needs to happen to get them to come back then I say go for it. Also I feel like it would be good to have them come out because it could bring a whole new wave of new things they could release to the game which they aren't/haven't for a while
I know it's 'cuz the game's major development was abandoned, but I always found it weird that the new contract system had only one contract pass that's still being used to this day. Makes me wonder if the Dragon Slayer war paint would have had higher value, had they discontinued the contract pass. But that's not relevant to what I'm about to say next. I bring this up 'cuz I think the idea of a "Premium" contract pass for Scream Fortress. IDK if that should provide brand new contracts or just add a currency to the existing scream fortress contracts. If they just added currency to the current contracts, they could just make it or "halloween store" pass or just retroactively give you currency based on your completed contracts if you buy the pass after completing the contracts. It'd at least add a monetary incentive for Valve to add spells.
if this scream fortress is the last time we gets spells, i would try to get pumpkin bombs so i could apply it to my strange factory new high roller rocket launcher (don’t mean to flex but i’m keeping it for collecting purposes)
@@cipherlockthanks. i would get more strange versions of the gentleman’s collection but they’re obviously expensive and i don’t want to use all of my check just to get a strange factory new skin. also, if you’re actually curious, my user name is harleydadm and the pfp is ash williams from evil dead. idk if i’m going to make my inventory public but you’re free to look if i decide to make it public
If Eric is more open to the next few updates he should think about allowing a Weapon skins case with individual weapon skins or allowing a Dragon Slayers War Paint case. I'd happily work on UV skins more so in my free time. I have a few already completed for next summer.
Yeah, I'd love to see spells return. And I agree with what you said toward the end it's just not fair to the player who joined so recently. I spent a fair bit of keys on some spelled items and I'd love to see them return so everyone can enjoy them without shelling out tons of cash.
Just a note, adding NEW spells would not really impact the value of the old spells. Like with old halloween effects (i.e. stormy 13th night, knife storm, harvest moon) they would retain value since they are still limited and unobtainable.
What about from back in the day where they brought back all the old unusual effects (traders would also have a panic attack due to hellfire, darkblaze and demonflame)
I think you could get really creative with spells while still keeping them a little low key, like having a spell that changes muzzle flash/explosions/bullet trails into more cartoony/comic book-esc visual effects. I think halloween restrictions should probably be applied liberally to spells, especially those with overt halloween theming, but some I think should still be allowed to be used all-year-round, if they do get added. (Probably would have to go by a different name if that was the case, I don't see them adding exactly "Spells" back, but possibly a replacement for them) Btw, what HUD/visual mods are you using in this video?
Gosh, this video reminded me my idea about addition of old halloween item strangifiers as extra drop to halloween crates. Like srsly, who's gonna get harmed with addition of strangifiers to untradeable hats like gibus or HHHH? Traders, who own glitched items? What a joke! Valve stopped adding halloween strangifiers a decade ago and most of them have been used for untradeable items so nowdays there is no possibility to find any of such hats except for paying 300 keys to some whale trader.
Also, tradeable vs untradeable items don’t really tank the value of the tradeable ones, especially considering the Poker Night items still being pretty expensive despite how you can get ALL the untradeable versions for 10-15 dollars total
i know valve would never use this but it would be pretty cool if you could craft your own spells like mvm parts but for holloween (i didnt watch the full video before making this comment)
I wish that someone would make a sourcemod called Scream Fortress Classic. And the purpose of playing it would be to experience the 2010-2014 era of scream fortress. Back in those years of scream fortress, there was no such thing as soul gargoyles or halloween contracts, and instead, we were getting our halloween cosmetics from these pickups called haunted halloween gifts. Getting halloween cosmetics from the haunted halloween gifts was so much better than getting them from the halloween contracts because unlike the contracts, the haunted halloween gifts wouldn’t force us to play on specific halloween maps in order to get our cosmetics, and instead, they’d randomly spawn on any halloween map that we were playing on, similar to the soul gargoyles. And not only did the haunted halloween gifts give us halloween cosmetics, but they also sometimes gave us halloween spells too.
Except trying to find the Halloween box that spawns makes everyone stop playing the game to search for this box for free items. Not to mention that item was tradable and worth money. Imagine if everyone at Walmart heard in the intercom that management hid a stack of $1000 somewhere in the aisles and who ever finds it gets to keep it. That was what it was like during the halloween event.
Spells should come back. It's a fun mechanic a lot of players never got to experience. The system is already in place and the Workshop has done all the work. New spells and bottles with backpack icons are all up there waiting to be put into use. They just have to want to do it.
itll probably just be cosmetics, a few maps, contracts for those maps, a handful of unusual effects and a bunch of warpaints. Maybe one or two taunts. Nothing more. Just because the bots are gone doesnt mean Valve's actively working on the game again
As someone who joined in 2021, i would love new spells to come out!! It would definitely have to be brought back carefully but if done right it would make me so happy. Maybe even Halloween transmutes could have spells as a rare second item.
Only spelled items I have are a Charmer's Chapeau with the deep voice (Pimp hat lol) and a Filamental with Die Job (imitating a flickering light bulb) and I love them. I'd love for new ones to come out, keep the OG, but bring new effects exclusive to say, each Halloween?
the concept of introducing new spells through crafting sounds like such a really good idea, yeah It may lower other spell prices but it wont outright destroy them. Plus the crafting part getting rid of all the excess ref will def help the economy in some places
Halloween spells are pretty tame compared to unusuals and cosmetics that have been added in recent years and they are locked in halloween. I think it's definitely fine to readd spells. But I am gonna miss the feeling that someone can have bragging rights for having an unobtainable item. Similar to the Poker Night items. If more people can easily have spells, it's gonna miss it's former magic that only some people have the spells. And so when you notice that spell on Scream Fortress you go: "Oh that's a spell effect!" Like when hats were first added, it was like a wonder of the world to see one.
I'd be down for weapon spells again, i really want my weapon skins to have spells but you gotta pay sooooo fucking much because they're extremely rare and traders ofc
As an old school TF2 player who was around for spells and still have quite a lot of my own, I'd love to have them return, be them new or the old style. I don't really care about the value of my items that are spelled, I'd just love to have more items with the effects. I'm all in for returning them in some way.
Ngl. I would kill for a halloween MvM tour (like ghost town and two other maps) and completing them would give stuff halloween related and then halloween spells as one of those potential drops
I remember seeing a spell that changed the medigun beam, and as a medic mean I would LOVE to finally have access to that kind of thing. Edit: It was the Haunted Healing spell, I absolutely adore the little pumpkins and the orange/purple beam :)
I think the best way they could bring them back is add them as bonus drops from opening the gift bags you get from contracts and guarantee a drop when you reach those transmute thresholds. 10 - 20 - 30 ect. also spells should be non-tradable if they drop again.
First Scream Fortress I played was in 2014. Did get one halloween paint, used it on a Builders Blueprint. I did remove it because of how awefull I though that green/yellow paint looked on the cosmetic. Would never have though that was going to be the one and only spell paint I would ever get.
Spells should be unboxed from Halloween packages through rare bonus drops. That would literally be a perfect way to implement them back into the game without crowding the game with bots.
That’s wild to think about. I saw an old steam thread from like 2014 where people were discussing spells and someone was like “oh yeah I have dozens of exorcisms, they are worthless and like 3 cents on the market” LIKE WHAT
@@cipherlockYeah. When they dropped from Halloween Presents you could get one for a scrap. Back when they spawned every 30 min and people were using afk servers that teleport you around the map so you can pick up presents while afk, most valuable were green flames, and orange and purple footprints.
I really wish we can have cool stuff without having some secondary market holding them hostage... Anyways, if it can be just a new MVM Halloween Tour introducing Spells & Haunted Metal Weapons(?); that'll be great. However, cautionary that Valve still haven't fixed temporary soft-bans in MVM to kick the troublemakers who want to impede players into finishing tours. I'd imagine they'd enjoy griefing as much as they want when a new tour is ripe for the abusing.
think I'd agree they'd need pretty heavy quality control, and idk if we can trust valve to do that. I think I'm 50/50 on their addition, soo I'd just want them to be relatively unimpactful (e.g. that medigun beam spell you showed for a bit, team-coloured spells, etc)
The 4th idea of bringing spells (mvm mission) might have been me saying it. I were throwing that idea on mvm servers a few times 2 or so months back. Also could be someone else with the same idea that you heard from.

Anyways he’s trying to get more bad effects in the game and you can tell it’s just for easy money cause valve just goes to these same people constantly for work. Pumpkin moon is a nice effect but check his new work and you’ll see how bad it is.

The best way to include them would be as possible bonus drops in the contractor or transmutation like how they were associated with the gifts in the past. Making them as rare as unusuals or australium wouldn’t make much sense considering they would be halloween restricted and cant be seen as much. The only thing I can think of making rare spells would be the originals so that old items with them would still hold value but not plummet immediately.
Nobody wants their items to be worth more keys or digital currency, We all just want to just cool and shoot each other in TF2. Stop perpetuating this toxic, materialistic mindset in TF2, it is killing the game.
great video, one concept for re-introducing spells again is when applying the spell it makes the item untradable so it doesn't impact the economy. It gives players a way to trade-lock more items without it being super expensive, and you can apply it on newer cosmetics.
Just have them drop at capstone contracts (aka the end of a tier missions) a random spell set with 3 spells in it (2 common spells like exorcism or voices and a rare spell with the pumpkin effect, footprints, and paint effects).
I would think Halloween Spells should drop different in the methods mentioned: 1) F2P Halloween Contract should drop a variant of the old spells that cannot be traded/sold. 2) Halloween Contracts should drop new spells but generally low value. 3) Transmutation should definitely have a chance to drop extremely rare spells and the old OG spells. 4) Any pre-existing spells should add a "Genuine" tag to indicate how rare the spell is.
Bad idea, that just kicks the can down the road, the can being that players should be able to get Hween 2014 spells without having to pay into contracts, or had an account from before 2014 or paying high prices just to customize their mercs and enjoy another aspect of the game.
What I'm really eager to see are the community fixes. Valve please add the fix for the grenade launcher's chambers not holding grenades in it. Same for the weapon's vmt files fixes and actual animations for the Rocket Jumper.
As much as it would be amazing for newer players to actually get their hands on these for once, it would make MANY traders just oof- As someone who has bad experience with traders and plays the game casually to have fun, I really want to get my hands on the spells

valve should add a bunch of spells and make some rewards for completing certain more difficult halloween contracts and other better ones drops from completinv wave 666

".. disruptive to normal gameplay .."
Halloween mode IS THE DISRUPTION from normal gameplay lol! No one can play normally during Halloween, instead it's full of fun gimmicks. 🤣
@@LukeM410 If you ever played scream fortress when there were gifts appearing on a map, you know its not a positive
Considering the boost TF2 has gotten with 64-bit support and VScripting it feels like adding a few new spells would be harmless enough. As long as they're handled responsibly and not just churned out factory-style like the hats or maps, at least enough so that it wouldn't cost a player's life savings to enjoy them
I would love to get spells back and have my favorite cosmetics updated with them
I think bringing back spells would be different than the crate depression.
My killstreak Hunstman with Excorsim needs a friend.
Yes I firmly believe spells should come back. Perhaps a new set of spells different from the old ones, but they are a really good way to personalize your weapons.
I'm still waiting for Pumpkin bomb Cowmangler rockets to have a slight difference...
@@BookOfEwja Oh, thanks for the clarification! Idk how I got that mixed up.

Re-implement the original Halloween spells alongside any new ones at the same rates, to make them all as cheap and accessible as possible!
Imagine having halloween hats strangifiers as drop from those Premium halloween contracts
I really hope they do, I started playing in 2018 and I've never been able to get these.
if this scream fortress is the last time we gets spells, i would try to get pumpkin bombs so i could apply it to my strange factory new high roller rocket launcher (don’t mean to flex but i’m keeping it for collecting purposes)

I spent a fair bit of keys on some spelled items and I'd love to see them return so everyone can enjoy them without shelling out tons of cash.
please fucking god please please please all i want in this world is more halloween spells this would Make my 2024
Just a note, adding NEW spells would not really impact the value of the old spells.
Ya but unusual effects were always unattainable to most of the masses, spells originally were a low cost or free way to add flavor to your load out
Have you installed different weapon animations or am i imagining things?
Yes, I have! You can look up how to use them, but I generally use Kylul’s animations, with some exceptions like Domi scout and ultrakill pyro.
I’ve said this before on stream with you but I like the Halloween contract reward idea. I also like the MVM and crafting idea as well!
(Probably would have to go by a different name if that was the case, I don't see them adding exactly "Spells" back, but possibly a replacement for them)
Btw, what HUD/visual mods are you using in this video?
I personally feel there's no real reason to exclude spells, since they're not avaliable year round
@@ecs300 facts
i think that it would be cool to see it as an MVM drop during halloween, like at the end of wave 666. Make it rare, maybe ~2% like aussies
But that would barely lower price, making the cost of entry for them still insanely inflated

3:35 I feel so sorry for that spy there, if he only cloaked, he would of probably survived enough to get the small health pack.
@@Labyrinth6000 In 2012, valve changed it so that the haunted halloween gift can only be visible to one player when it spawns.
Great idea that we should have again permanently. Such a great idea that the items are tradable and we can get spells too!
3:32 examples?
We also don't need a Flaming Team Captain to be worth more than a gold pan yet here we are.
actually we do because golden pans drop more commonly than bftcs which means that there will always be more golden pans than bftcs

I've been playing this game since 2012 and no idea spells were ever an actual in-game item. Huh. You learn something every day.
And so when you notice that spell on Scream Fortress you go:
"Oh that's a spell effect!"
Like when hats were first added, it was like a wonder of the world to see one.
Fell for the scarcity meme
Spells should absolutely come back, I've got a few myself and would love to apply some of the old effects to some of my new warpainted weapons
Clickbait titles in RUclips have always seemed like a strange case to me

tf2 also doesn't need 20 more unusual effects every update but that's never stopped anyone
I'll believe it when I see it (it would be so awesome)
it would be so coool 😎
As an old school TF2 player who was around for spells and still have quite a lot of my own, I'd love to have them return, be them new or the old style. I don't really care about the value of my items that are spelled, I'd just love to have more items with the effects. I'm all in for returning them in some way.
Ngl. I would kill for a halloween MvM tour (like ghost town and two other maps) and completing them would give stuff halloween related and then halloween spells as one of those potential drops
Easy solution, all old spell weapons become vintage.
Lucid should take a look at this video.
I bought a pumpkin bomb wrench for $5 a few years back
That’s wild to think about.
Back when they spawned every 30 min and people were using afk servers that teleport you around the map so you can pick up presents while afk, most valuable were green flames, and orange and purple footprints.
honestly I would laugh my ass off if they get put back in and grind alot too lol

I was In a trade server last night and the creator of pumpkin moon and other effects cheesypuff was there. He literally said that he just ripped the pumpkin moon idea from another game, and that he makes garbage effects on purpose cause he knows valve will accept them. He’s the guy who made all the fireworks and other trash that fills the game. He came off so entitled and rude acting as if only he can make unusuals. Anyways he’s trying to get more bad effects in the game and you can tell it’s just for easy money cause valve just goes to these same people constantly for work. Pumpkin moon is a nice effect but check his new work and you’ll see how bad it is.
Hey did you hear him, what game did he riped it from?
@@tomas6621 He didn’t say, he just said he got it from another game. @@iUseDemFrapz How? They get a % of profit from the keys being sold for the event. People open a lot of cases during events, and it’s “easy” cause they just had to made a garbage effect and watch it be implemented into the game. So yeah easier than working at McDonald’s for minimum wage.
It would be great to have spells back, and newer ones.
Nobody wants their items to be worth more keys or digital currency,
We all just want to just cool and shoot each other in TF2.
I already sold most of my spelled items for stupid prices, so yeah bring them back lol
Just have them drop at capstone contracts (aka the end of a tier missions) a random spell set with 3 spells in it (2 common spells like exorcism or voices and a rare spell with the pumpkin effect, footprints, and paint effects).
I for one would love to have green fire on a War Paint like Helldriver or Raving Dead.
idk if we went 2 valve yet but if we didnt we should ask if they could bring back spells
I would think Halloween Spells should drop different in the methods mentioned:
1) F2P Halloween Contract should drop a variant of the old spells that cannot be traded/sold.
@yellow1yellow121 I really don't see that as a issue if it only occurs on Halloween and on Full Moon.
I'm sorry for being a little off topic, but what was the scout animation used at 0:14? It looks sick.
