An artist is turning heads behind the wheel of a street legal race car straight out of the Indianapolis 500. Dean Loucks, 50, bought the vehicle in 2007 and has since redesigned it into his very own drivable work of art. The battery powered Indy Car car weighs 1,200 lbs, about 300 lbs lighter than the average race car. It took Dean and his crew at The Art Of Design more than 1,000 hours to completely customise the car.

A Chevy 350ci small block is capable of more than 700 horsepower. But it wares out very fast. By specing the engine for 120 hp, he can expect to get 300k miles out of it. But in reality, its got more like 250 hp. Even a single barrel carburetor will push more than 120.
yeah honestly only getting 120hp out of a chevy small block is impressively bad, like most of them can make 120hp missing a spark plug

1. "realise" is NOT a word.
2. A Chevy small-block sounds NOTHING AT ALL like a 10,500RPM 4.0L race-prepped V8.
How would I know? I went to almost every Indy/CART race held at Nazareth Speedway between 1992 and 2004, and I've had numerous friends that owned Chevy small-block powered vehicles over the last 20 years. Regardless of the intake, exhaust, or cam, the small-block will never sound like the engine that belongs in this car. Take it from someone that actually knows, your comment couldn't be further from the truth.

120 mph? I have a truck that could out run it on the highway. I don't see any reason why this would only do 120. Even with 300hp he should be able to do better in such a light car.

The only reason a truck would be able to go over 100 if it’s just the front cab part. If the truck had a trailer that was fully loaded it’s top speed would only be 80mph.
Weather it’s a muscle car, sport car, f1 car, nascar race car, or super car they would all out perform a semi truck.

Timothy Whieldon top speed has mostly to do with transmission gearing, not engine size.
Sgtchickens I don't know what transmission he hooked up to that small block Chevy, but the car should be able to go above 120mph easy wheighing less than 1500lbs. That can only mean he put a pile of crud clapped out Chevy making less than 300hp at the crank.

STOCK INTERNALS, you fuckwit. gt2052 turbo, 3" exhaust, colt 2 cam custom ground stage 3. PP.764 stage 3 tuned nozzles, Undercut valves with titanium retainers and helper springs. 11mm Injection Pump with a 12mm head. Custom tune chip tune done on the dyno. O2M transmission swap. 276 HP at the wheels at and all on STOCK INTERNALS as in pistons, connecting rods, and crank. I have actually passed my 163 last week and did 171 on a flat. We changed some gearing on 4th and 5th gear and uped the revs to 6,800 rpms vs the 6,100 I had before.

you're essentially paying $150,000 (im assuming dollars) for a small block chevy, with top speed of 120mph, and a kit car that was torn apart and has not much Formula about it... Rip off. shouldn't be worth any more than 20k.

They don't need headlights in GB, but if you don't have them, you are not allowed to drive after dark or in bad weather. You MUST have brake lights though.I don't know if USA has similar laws. It would also be required to cover the wheels here too.

I would've put a 4 rotor in this car for the sound. A motor like Mad Mike's Mad Bull RX-7 would be perfect in this. Revs high and sounds similar to that of an F1 car.
Or a custom build 1.5-3.0 litre v8 or v10 wouldve been perfect too
Plus it would be very small to fit easily.
He must live somewhere where there's no mudguard/mudflap laws. In my state, and similarly in other states, you have to have a flap/guard at least to the width of the wheel coming down to meet at least halfway down the wheel.
I would put in something like a Lingenfelter 358 or another LS-motor with a flat plane crank to try to make it sound at least a bit like the original thing.

The smallblock Chevy is not meant to be a stressed member of the chassis. How did he get around this? There had to be some sort of frame member built and I'm thinking he probably added a couple of inches to the wheelbase to make it fit.
And I was thinking the frame addition would make for poor ground clearance then I noticed the taller tires which would help some.

This car is in Edwardsburd and was found filmed in Edwardsburg Michigan. I live a town north and I've never seen this car though.

All road legal cars (at least in the US) must have 5 mph bumpers. There is no way in hell this car would pass inspection if you transferred the title out of state. Besides that, who the fuck would want this embarrassing car?
@@andrewb9708 that's production cars. There are ways around those rules. It's basically titled as a kit car, and those have way less restrictions on things than production cars do. Especially if you're in a state/area with no emissions or inspections

120mph my ass.....a stock 350 in a truck could probably do close to that....that being said, I understand using a small block to save weight over using a big block but at least give that beast some power, it's begging to be supercharged or to have a dual turbocharger set up....this is like the space shuttle being powered by a Briggs and Stratton
you figured he would've gone the radical route with a bike motor for sound purposes at least, plus a 1300cc motor like in some inex thunder roadsters will get a car that weight moving right along.

Racing cars are meant for race tracks. Roads are meant for SAFELY transporting people around at or below a speed limit. IF you want to race, buy/build a RACE car and race it on a RACE track! When I started racing, it became clear to me the difference between DRIVING and RACING.
RACE : go as fast as hell
DRIVE : transport yourself and your passengers SHARING a communal road to your destination, SAFELY.
I would put a V12 in the car with an exhaust to make it scream, lower it, and make it look more like a modern F1 car, that is a poor choice in engine for a former "F1" car

F1 cars are more aerodynamic than Indycar's, but indycars have bigger, more powerful engines, so the F1 car has better handling, but the Indycar is more fast

At 1200lbs this thing should be a rocket with a small block Chevy. Must have short gearing. SB Chevy engines have plenty of room for power. Get the gearing figured out and it’ll go much faster than 120. And NO your 25 year old truck wouldn’t be quicker than this...it’ll take you 2 months to get to 120
