Last of a dying breed. We use to have a few more camps at the cabin. Now we are the only ones left. A lot of work and the younger generation isn’t taking it on. I think most of the hunters in the area gave up because of the lack of deer. We’ve certainly had a decade plus of poor deer population but there are still decent deer out there.

Do you have that lake to yourself or do others have camps there?? That's a real wilderness adventure.

We typically have it all to ourselves. There use to be a few camps on the lake but most of the old timers have gone or can no longer come up. Given the low deer numbers and difficult access, it’s not a real draw for hunters. Do you hunt in a remote area?

@@arrowheadangler yes but out on the lakes up at Nestor Falls Ontario. Havent been the last few years due to all the covid crap. I live in North Carolina so it's a hike to get there.

Nestor falls! Great area. Just east of there a bit my father in laws friend has a cabin on Entwine lake. Good fun. That is a hike from SC! Hunting was pretty good through 2012 then with the terrible winters of 13-14 the deer haven’t recovered. We just had another bad one in 2022. Snow was still waist deep up until the end of April. I’m guessing deer numbers will remain low for the next few years. Need some mild winter weather to bring the population back.

@@arrowheadangler North Carolina but I agree with your synopsis. Hunting was awesome up there until those back to back hard winters. not to mention the amount of wolves up there. there are still some big deer around but you have to work for them.

Yeah, we work for them and still don’t see much. Hoping that we can have some mild winter weather again. My dad said this is what hunting was like through the 70’s into the early 80’s. Very few deer, lots of wolves, and terrible winters. Many guys didn’t even see a deer the whole time they’d be in camp.

Would be interesting to see you load the wheeler in the v hull boat

Throw the back tires in first and then swing the front around. Fortunately we have the pontoon now so no need to load the wheelers in the boat. Typically 2-3 guys to get the wheelers in and out.

Boat is an s16 Lund that has a modified front. Basically just 3/4 plywood across the bench seat with the middle bench removed. The motor is a 30 hp evinrude (Suzuki) 4 stroke 2000 model. We have since changed to operate 25 etecs but now they are out of business. The etecs have a lot of torque to get the heavy loads on plane.
