I think with the eye-colour "changing" between the present and the playground flashback, its just that Masachika doesnt entirely remember what she looked like, therefore he projected Alya's eye-colour onto her in his memories.
Could be, or given how japanese society is with people that stand out maybe Masha is wearing colored contacts and dyed her hair to fit in.
Also some people with blue eyes at young ages have been known to have it change as they grow up usually to green but also to other colors on rarer occasions. Although that’s probably not what happened
@@Daimah That's what I was thinking too. Since they are sisters, having the same eye color would not been unheard of. Like you said, she started wearing contacts to 'fit in' more. As for hair color, it can change some from when you are young or get dyed like you said.

just for those who don't know actually is pretty common that kids who were born with light color of eyes and hair can get darker as they grown up, that happened with masha and alya, actually both of them were blonde with blue eyes... ( the novel explain that this is probably because her mother is japanese).

The language is grammatically 100% correct, but at some moments a bit too formal for the elementary school kids. And yeah, all the actors speak with heavy Japanese accent, but it is still good comprehensible even without subtitles
The handwriting in Alya‘s note is also just over the top in terms of language and autencity, I was pleasantly amazed with that

Despite with all of the intellect that she possesses, it’s hilarious that Alya herself doesn’t see that as the very obvious start of a love story makes you really think she really is just goofy as others, but won't show it. Luckily her sister Masha can obviously see right through her.
Ever since as a child Alya was such a hard worker, and always put a tremendous amount of effort into getting to where she is. Everyone thinks of her as the picture perfect beauty queen, but she worked hard for as we have seen today's episode, and pouring countless hours in to be successful. When she was a kid all she wanted was someone who could match that energy and understand her, but that didn’t work out in elementary school with all the kids wanting to take shortcuts, but everything changed when she met Masachika.
Alya's older sister Masha is finally here to speak into her heart, though from young Alya's always been an Ice Princess and one always gets her work done efficiently ahead of people, especially against slackers who just procrastinate until the deadline that hardens her heart all the way more, and her move from Vladivostok to Japan to meet yet another slacker in her class who is Masachika, she certainly didn't have a good impression of him at first glance who's sleeping through classes. Once again Alya tries to work alone for the cultural festival for her part, though Masachika is more capable than he looks, and she doesn't seem convinced that he'll get the job done.
The endless prep of the overnight sessions that lead to the success of their class's cultural festival, Alya doesn't seem fazed whatsoever since she's treated as a princess, but she definitely went overboard with lashing out to Masachika, who's rather happy being the only guy who can call her by her nickname. And in this pretense that Alya falls in love for the very first time with Masachika being the capable CHAD who led her all the way, in the classic friends to lovers progression. But as for Masha, she remembers Masachika being the boy of her childhood, though entrusting Alya in his hands is even better.
For me Masha is more of a mother figure than anything based on her eccentric and bubbly personality. That's my head canon, and my defense mechanism to prepare for the worst if that will happen in the future.
12:11 I think the former Student Council President that Masachika is refering here is Yuki as they are both President and Vice President on their time as middle school, and base on their uniform they are at least on that time. Alya just didn't find out till Yuki told her in episode 1 cause she just got transferred to Serei Academy is my head canon guess.

You probably mentioned that the full names of Alya and Masha are Alisa Mikhailovna Kujo and Maria Mikhailovna Kujo
The thing is, every person born in Russia receives automatically a so-called patronymic, and it’s a legal thing, a part of a full name, you have it on all your documents - ID, passport, driver license etc.. It can be compared to a middle name in Western cultures, but in Russia it always derivates from father‘s first name and is automatically assigned to you by birth, whether you (or parents) want it or not (but theoretically it could be legally changed, for example, if you really hated your father as a child and want to have nothing to do with him and his name)
So, in case of Masha and Alya, the name of their father is Mikhail, so they both have middle name Mikhailovna - that‘s the female version of the patronymic
If they had a brother, he would be Mikhailovich (male version)

The way these things go, whereas Yuki would be the 'push from the front' rival to Alya, in a "come fight me bitch, if you can" way, Masha is the push from behind: "if you won't go out with him, I'll take him for myself, are you okay with that outcome?"
Masachika may not be a genius, but he’s a reliable hard worker who was probably the first person Alya had truly connected with on an intimate level, and has taught her some important life lessons. I really empathise with Alya in this one. It makes total sense to want to put your best foot forward with anything your name is attached to. It’s a very good habit to have going forward in life, but you also have to be able to meet people where they’re at as Masachika showed her making the festival a huge success.
