Uhm, Some of you guy's don't seem to under stand the "Two of the best written" part of my statement. Pretty much leaves open that deadwood and Justified aren't the only two in the category. Also, like people are pointing out Olyphant weren't in those other shows.

When Tim talks about the "extra" who says "I hope you die in the street, just like my dad did", I'm surprised he didn't reveal that the "extra" who says that line is actually a cameo appearance by none other than Garret Dillahunt, who played both The Coward Jack McCall and Francis Wolcott in the original series.

I've had the Deadwood movie saved for years, but wasn't going to watch it until re-watching the show (for the first time since it aired, it's been so long, I'd forgotten much). It knocks the modern 'prestige' shows out of the water. So often with recent shows I'm baffled at why people act the way they are, sometimes which side they're on, what their motivations are, and of course the tedious habit of giving each and every backstory a tragic backstory (the problem being they make them EXPLICIT instead of implicit). Watching Deadwood, it's incredible that so much is implied or hinted/alluded, there's a respect for the audience that's missing so often now. It says a lot that Deadwood can throw dialog at us so complex that often you don't even know exactly what is being said, but you're never confused as to why a given character does what they do. Try watching 'wheel of time' or 'the witcher' and say as much, or, god forbid, the execrable 'game of thrones'. Oh great, more banal dialog where people sit & talk like a bunch of account managers in a second hand car dealership. Yawn.
Flipping great to finally be able to rewatch the show, knowing there's a movie at the end that doesn't leave us hanging. Bravo Mr. Milch, and damnation upon the HBO galaxy brains who canned this.

Deadwood was great at introducing you to a bad guy, then making you like them by putting them at odds with an even badder guy. THEN they give you someone even worse and you side with the last bad guy. So good.

That's weird. Surely! The "extra" who yelled out "I hope you die in the street, like my Dad did!". That was no extra. I believe that was Garrett Dillahunt, the actor who played Francis Wolcott, bought back as an anonymous face in the crowd. Mr. W was another amazing and twisted character, superbly played. Dillahunt appears as another villain in JUSTIFIED, again a terrific character, flawed and evil yet somehow likeable and sympathetic...
