  • Hi all,
    I didn't document this when i did the conversion as i was trying to get it done ASAP for the next round of the British drift championship in 2021
    So apologies for this not being a step by step guide, but this information should be enough for you to successfully do the conversion yourself
    All parts below are available through POPERFORMANCE, they are UK suppliers for PMC and have great leadtimes and are super helpful!

    loved this and the rear mount radiator vid, subscribed. i think i might go with a bmw engine to go with the bmw trans on my is300?? ive had a lot of internal conflict about what i wanna do to get 50 50 weight distribution for a nice autox/daily and i think an m54 will serve me nicely as its a few hundred pounds less than a 2jzgte(such heavy engines as it turns out! crazy shit)

    Unreal! Thank you for sharing all this info. This is actually the same gearbox I've already bought for mine so this and the parts list you have posted will be very helpful. How do you find the ratios compared to the J160?

    • @Goldie2620
      @Goldie2620  2 года назад

      Ratios seem better, i run a 3.7 is250 and each gear seams slightly longer than when i had the j160 with the same diff. I cant really give an opinion for street use but i was in 4th gear around the big corner at anglesey which is about 90mph

    Thank you for all of the infos! One thing is not 100% clear to me: Y54 so is LSD or open?

    Love the content. I just wish a conversion kit was available for the BEAMS 3S-GE.

    Did I miss what master cylinder setup you used? Know it’s probably no issue in this as it’s a drift car but is the box noisy when part loading it etc & rattles a fair bit on idle ?

    How is the rubber coupling holding on the gearbox? We usually remove them and put a steel flange with a universal

    Did you have to splice and connect any wires for the trans, reverse light etc?

    Out of curiosity, how is a 3uz fit on a 2017 316i? Which gearbox or diff is preferable?

    Hey, what flywheel and clutch did you used for 3uz and j160? I’m going to swap 1uz and j160. Thanks a lot.

    Did you use is200 xe10 or is250 xe20 rear droveshaft? Basically does is 250 diff fit stock is200 driveshaft?

    Hi. I have the same box on my 1UZ Soarer. Because it's a diesel box I'm curious how do you find it coping with cams? How high do you rev?

    • @Goldie2620
      @Goldie2620  2 года назад +1

      Its revs fine, the fact its a "diesel" box isnt really an issue or a factor. If you look at the final drive ratio of the car it comes out of, that determines really why its a "diesel" box. They come with like 2.9, 3.1 etc final drives, really low and long. So you can change the characteristics of the engine and gearbox just by changing the final drive. I run a 3.58 now and its a good balance between acceleration and gear length, if i want it more acceleration biased i could go up to a 3.9FD, or if i wanted taller gears i could go down to a 3.2FD for example. My limiter is set to 7700 but will be upping to 8000-8200 soon

      @@Goldie2620 thanks. I went from stock diff 3.9 to 3.26 because gears were silly short.

    What was the main reason of this conversion? Advantages/disadvantages of j160?

    • @Goldie2620
      @Goldie2620  2 года назад +1

      J160 isnt very strong, especially for what i was using it for, and for similar cost you can use a gearbox which can handle 500-600hp all day

      @@Goldie2620 Was the e36 slave cylinder chosen because of the suitable inner diameter (20mm)? Did you have to shorten or lengthen the cylinder rod? Are there any problems with clutch release with this configuration? THANKS!

    Don’t waste your time on J160s anymore. Yeah, that’s like 6 months too late for me to get this message. That gearbox just blew up today with the diff. 6 months of time, and money, has gone down to the toilet.

      Asked the mechanic to look for an E90 6MT kit today, hopefully in the future I can swap it into a 316i or 525i once the Altezza no longer meets emission.
