    This was my favorite movie as a kid, definitely one of my favorites. It always made me cry, it still does. I had a friend as a kid. Met him when I was 5 and going to public school, to kindergarten. We stayed friends until 2nd grade, when we were 7, but him and his family moved back to Japan with no more than one's day notice to the both of us. I was gutted. We stayed in touch and would send each other birthday cards. That went on until I was ten, and I'm not sure if it's because I moved or if he just stopped, but I never heard from him again. I was gutted. And this movie hits a lot of chords with me, as a kid and even more as an adult.

      @@gerawallstar3487 Yep! The Great Mouse Detective was a benefit for the studio by saving it from going completely bankrupt after Black Cauldron. That and this film are easily the best of the 80s (before Roger Rabbit and the Little Mermaid started the 90s renaissance). And the best films from the 70s decade of the Disney Dark Age are easily Robin Hood and the compilation of 'The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh'.

    Part of me is saddened that Greatest Showman wasn't chosen, but The Fox and the Hound is a great movie too. I love that you give it the credit it deserves, because it's so often overlooked or people are quick to say it's boring. It's one of Disney's darker movies, and it has a more realistic story to it. Despite it being darker, though, there's something for everyone. Cute animals for the kids, and an interesting story for the adults. It's such an underappreciated movie, and I'm glad to see someone give it some love. :)

  • @gerawallstar3487
    @gerawallstar3487 5 лет назад +7

    I LOVED this film. Theres a lot of realism in this film. It does a really good job balancing out how harsh and racist people are, but also how good people are in society. The fight scene in the end was brilliant. Keep in mind that the reason why Fox and the Hound is overlooked is because it came out durimg the darkest time in Disney, and the production problems did kind of drive people away from this film. Like the absurd decision of making the chief SURVIVE instead of dying. What did you think about the decision of making the chief live, Jambarrequi?

    • @Jambareeqi

    Back in the day, fur was an important commodity and it was actually fur trappers and "trophy hunters" that first pushed for hunting regulations.

    In a way I find it strangely fitting that you should be reviewing the Fox and the Hound specifically for your November episode of Jambareeqi Orange. I don't know why (and maybe it's just me), but this film has always reminded me of autumn somehow. Maybe it's the colour palette. Anyway, this was a really great review, I definitely agree that the Fox and the Hound is very underrated compared to other Disney films, very probably because it's so much darker than the average Disney animated outing. Personally, I really like the film, it's always been one of my favourites and I'm really glad to see you finally review it :)

    The movie was actually based off of a novel that Disney radically changed the plot to. It was far darker with a more downbeat ending, which Disney changed to a more upbeat, albeit poignant one due to it, well, being a Disney movie. The relationship between Tod and Copper, and Copper and Chief is also very different.

    I'm very curious about how you decide which movies should be reviewed in what way, like, how do you choose which movies should be choices in "Patrons Only" polls for your Jambareeqi Orange playlist, which films get general movie reviews in your playlists of standard reviews, and which movies should be reviewed 100% voice-over for your Jambareeqi Cinema playlist? I just pick one method of reviewing media and make a playlist for every 16 episodes. But how do you decide how to review every movie?

    If you can read so deep into the film, than why does Amos hunt Todd, thus illegally going into a hunting forest and setting it on fire JUST because his older dog had BROKEN HIS LEG! (Outright killing Chief from the hit and fall - that would have totally killed him if it happened in real life - would have given him a more genuine reason, despite the fact that he trained Copper because Chief was getting old.) And what about that black bear who comes completely out of nowhere just for the sake of more forced drama? And does the widow know that Todd doesn't know anything about living alone in the wild but still leaves him completely unprepared just because some douche told her to do so, instead of just moving out? The film makes it clear that she didn't like him anyway.
    (Love your work and greatly appreciate you, but I sincerely think you were too hyperbolic about this film.)

    • @Jambareeqi
      @Jambareeqi  5 лет назад +7

      Amos isn't going after Todd in the reserve to avenge Chief, he makes it clear that he isn't THAT hung up on Chief's leg, he uses that as an excuse to justify his rage. He is bent on killing Todd out of pride, as he is a trophy he has never successfully shot, and the subject of many quarrels with Widow that bruised his ego. This is what makes Amos' eventual pause to think important, Copper's defence of Todd triggers the hunter to contemplate what he's doing, after being consumed by a false sense of self entitlement. Yes, Chief dying would have been more dramatic and made sense, but it's just as disturbing to see Amos use Chief's minor wound to excuse his illegal trophy hunting, he's that narcissistic.
      As far as I'm aware, there's nothing that unnatural about a bear appearing in a wildlife reserve, so no idea why that surprises you. The bear is in the story to test the friendship, by seeing if Todd will find it in himself to protect his childhood friend, that's the whole sentiment of the finale, and it needed to be something that could overpower Copper & Amos. The entire purpose of the film is to question whether a fox and hound can be friends, so only something really big could push them to put aside their differences, and stay true to their childhood promise.
      I agree that Widow could have moved, and I did question if a domesticated fox could even survive in the wild in the review, but it's a big stretch to say that she disliked Todd, she just ended up making a questionable decision that she maybe didn't entirely think through. She does seem conflicted and hurt leaving him in the woods.
      You can think what you want about my review, but I genuinely think highly of the film and didn't intend to exaggerate my opinions.

      @@tudor5059 I just read the comment on my Polar Express review that you deleted:
      "You know what I found funny, almost all your problems about this films are exactly my problems for 'Fox and the Hound' (you know, the overly saccharine and melodramatic film, also with unlikeable characters and forced drama made by their dumb decisions, you got emotionally manipulated by and got tricked into thinking it had something important to say when it reality it was just a dumb overly 'sad' film that clearly shows that different people worked on it in two halfs. Again, love your work and respect your opinions, but for someone who can judge a film beyond its surface (and can be critical of others), you can be hypocritical, since both that film and this have similar problems."
      1) If you're going to call me out as a hypocrite, at least have the guts to keep the comment up.
      2) Your idea of what makes someone hypocritical is very shallow and elitist. It would be hypocritical of me IF I said "The Fox and the Hound has the same problems as The Polar Express" and claimed that it doesn't matter or that FATH gets away with them - BUT I didn't. I personally don't think that "The Polar Express" and "The Fox and the Hound" have the same problems, I gave reasons in my above comment why I disagreed with most of your complaints against the film, but you either didn't read them or didn't take them into account before posting on my Polar Express review.
      3) You claim to be a fan of my work and respect my opinions, yet here you are patronisingly calling me gullible, just because I was swayed by a film that YOU personally found to be manipulative. Talk about contradiction. If you despise "The Fox and the Hound", then all power to you, I have nothing against that at all, but you clearly can't handle the idea of someone enjoying a film you hate.
      4) There's a major difference between "Doesn't look at films deeply enough" and "Didn't find and share the exact same grievances with the film that I did". Understand that every person's film experience is different (it'd be boring if we all went through the same motions, thoughts, and feelings), and a critic isn't lazy for not bringing up things YOU personally didn't like.
      I expected better of you, you were one of my more down to earth and sensible fans, but your attitude regarding our differing opinions has been appalling.
