I always felt that it could've been more interesting to make Sweet Pete into a parody/bootleg character who thinks he's the real Peter Pan and that the whole "puberty backstory" was just a scene from a parody he was in once.
@chasformer3091 Would you be fine with meta if it was anti-woke? (As in the main villain would be 2023 Ariel, and Mr. Birchum shows up as a supporting character portrayed in a postitive light)
As a kid I always had a headcanon that Rescuers, Rescue Rangers and The Great Mouse Detective all took place in the same universe. It was fun to imagine these little critters having a long legacy of helping people
There was a planned movie announced for Mickey's 75th called The Search for Mickey Mouse where Mickey is missing so Minnie employs the help of Basil. It would have featured a cameo from all of the canon up to that point similar to Once Upon A Studio. It got pushed back in 2005 to be the 50th film but then it scrapped and replaced with Tangled as the 50th and The Three Musketeers as a Mickey Mouse project.
If i got a nickel for everytime a Disney sequel introduced a version of Ursula Crazy’s sister. I would have two nickels...who isn't a lot but it's weird it happened twice.
Personally, I think there is more to Sweet Pete’s depiction in the “Rescue Rangers” film than most people think. To the movie’s credit, while the parallels to the real-life Bobby Driscoll are indeed unfortunate, they weren’t played off as a joke. The flashback scene is one of the genuine emotional moments of the film, which even the chipmunks feel sympathy for. They even try to offer Sweet Pete help, but he’s grown far too cynical and distrusting to even accept their pity. In a way, he’s a reflection of Chip’s character in the film, having grown bitter from his years as a TV star who was likewise let go and grew distrustful of people in his life. Of course, the sad thing is that even if they had another character in the villain role, the parallels to real life still would’ve been drawn. Had they gotten Charlie Brown for the part like the director originally wanted, people would’ve still tried linking it to the background of his original voice actor, who (unlike Driscoll) became a felon. It’s just an all-too common story in the industry.
I know one-shot villains are not typically mentioned in these videos, so I do want to bring up one of the strangest villain trios in any cartoon. There’s one episode where an evil Madam Mim-like witch is the villain, aided by her two flunkies, a Kaa-esque snake and a spider. But that’s actually not the weirdest part. The weird part is that the snake and the spider were inexplicably a parody of Bud Abbot and Lou Costello respectively. A witch is already a surreal choice for a Rescue Rangers villain, giving her Abbot and Costello pets is even weirder. But it was certainly memorable!
Winifred (Don't call me Freddie!) the wannabe witch, and while the Bud snake and Lou spider familiars were loyal, Foxglove the bat wasn't evil to begin with.
I was actually thinking about that video where is he going to start with Darkwing duck villains because who do you start with? Do you have the fearsome five, fowl, and a few other reoccurring villains however I think he might start off with either Quaker jack or mega volt since they’re the two villains a lot of people think about when it comes to Darkwing duck plus mega volt was the one villain who was the most seen out of the fearsome five

I'm particularly interested in how Roger Rabit failed to restart oldschool animation despite being given actual theatrical shorts just like the original characters.
I think a good deal of it had to do with how Roger was handled. He was torn between multiple companies who all wanted a piece of the pie, so he never made the full impact he could have in the long run.
Another big factor prolly being that this was a time where TV had long taken over in means of animated entertainment - while some revival shorts started to emerge for Looney Tunes and eventually Mickey Mouse even, I feel Roger Rabbit helped more usher on a new appreciation to old-school sensibilities and style from Golden Age of Animation that'd go influence things like Spielberg's tv projects later in the 90s.
earlier this year Fatcat reappeared at Disneyland during the Disney Channel night event. and you're right. another Disney tv series villain showed up at Disney's California Adventure for the Oogie Boogie Bash event, namely Phineas and Ferb's resident mad scientist Dr. Heinz Doofenshmirtz made a surprise appearance at DCA. Also to add onto the Sweet Pete Bootleg amalgamation, at one point he has the voice of Cruella de Vil for a short moment
So, THERE IS a Disney rat called Ratatouille after all. It just happened to be Fat Cat's cousin's minion. Thanks for that piece of trivia. I'll use it any time someone misnames Remy from Pixar.
Fat Cat had an especially fiendish plot in one Rescue Rangers comic for Disney Adventures magazine that I recall: In it, the Rangers are investigating the fact that all the squirrels and mice in the park have disappeared. Eventually, our heroes discover that not only was Fat Cat behind it all (Big surprise), but he had set up an underground bakery in which he intended to make a profit off of baking the kidnapped mice into mouse pies which he would then sell to his fellow cats, and he had abducted the squirrels in order to use them as slave labor, running the treadmills that would power the bakery's machinery under the threat of ending up in pies themselves if they don't cooperate. Thankfully, the Rangers of course thwart this evil scheme.
It's amusing how Professor Nimnul's character, backstory, and even his nasally voice can be best described as a precursor to Dr. Doofenshmirtz from Phineas and Ferb.
@@SpacialRend7 ratigan has his own cat henchgirl to protect him from him trying that and considering fat cat doesn't try to eat his rat henchman, I think ratigan would be fine either way.
I’m looking forward to when you get to the post-renaissance/ experimental era! I’m interested to see your deep dive into the Treasure Planet villains. EDIT: That being said, I'm also very excited for you to cover the 1990s TV show villains, too! Especially the ones from Gargoyles.
Hi, i don’t know if you will get to see this but I am a big fan and I have been watching you videos ever since they have come out. This is insane. I am so proud of you because what you are doing is amazing. I always wanted a place to refer when I think of Disney villains so here it is.
Regarding Peter Pan... whole movie oozes with cynicism. More than likely they knew damn well what they were doing. And bear in mind that they could've used ANY Disney kid character. Could've even made up one from scratch.
Curious if he’ll also talk about the Shark that chased Ariel and Flounder in the sunken ship. One might argue he was just a predator looking for prey to eat, though we know in the franchise sharks are both intelligent and sapient like the other fish from both the tv series and the sequel. And In some behind the scenes stuff the shark was also supposed to have been a minion of Ursula like her eels and was supposed to also come back later in the movie when human Ariel and flounder were trying to stop Eric’s wedding, but both ideas got scrapped.
From a non-Disney standpoint, the closest character we have to an evil Winnie-the-Pooh is Gluttony from Fullmetal Alchemist. From design, to appetite, to even very-little-brain, Gluttony fits that mold almost like Mole from Rescue Rangers. It's like if you fused Winnie-the-Pooh with Cookie Monster you'd get the homunculus Gluttony.
Glad to hear your thoughts on the movie. Not only did I hate the use of Pete in the film, but I also just didn't like how it wasn't a true RR movie. The weird thing is that they could have actually been clever if they use Fat Cat as the villain and joke about either calling him fat isn't PC or make him skinny and just call him Cat. Have Nimnil be played by a real actor and have him be a villain too. Also, the less said of Gadget and Zipper, the better
The original pitch from 2014 was going to be a more dark, noir story set in the universe proper instead of the spiritual successor to Roger Rabbit we got that. The current version came about due to a director change in 2019 which explains the sloppy use of Peter Pan assuming Anon was correct.
@@geoffreyrichards6079 It shouldn't have been Live action at all. And the entire movie felt like it was meant for a Bonkers movie since that show was about cartoons in the real world and was a police procedure.
Thank you so much for covering the villains of Rescue Rangers. I really want to look up comic stories for myself. I agree that Fat Cat and Professor Nimnul are the best villains. I am a tad more respectful of the new movie, but I see it more separately from the cartoon that inspired it. That being said, I respect how it had a harmful impact on a lot of people, and I wish everyone peace with their extended points of view. Keep up the fantastic job with this series. Glitch sounds like a really interesting character to me. I hope she will be brought back if they ever make another Rescue Rangers story.
I can also imagine the alleged Mean Dean having a face similar to Mr. Wheeler-the "Mr. Hyde" of Mr. Walker-from the classic Disney cartoons starting Goody as both identities of the character.
For the one-shot villains, they tend to split into two categories: Fellow animal villains like Fat Kat and Rat Capone, and human criminals who tends to use animals for their schemes like Professor Nimnul and Aldren Klordane. On the animal side of things: Alongside Sewernose de Bergerac, there's Captain Finn, a small anchovy terrorist seeking revenge on humanity after his school of anchovies got turned into pizza toppings, El Emenopio, a vicious bull who is unhappy he didn't get invited at the bull festival years ago and currently seeking revenge on Monty when the latter accidentally foiled his rampage, and Bubbles, a rodent executer who is the rogue second-in-command of a literal Coca-Cola Cult (Seriously, that happens). For humans: There's Irwina Allen, a crazy scientist who uses mind-controlled bees to become a rockstar singer, Heinrich Von Sugarbottom, a German chocolate maker specializing in Mayan slave labor by hypnotizing the natives with Mosquito juice, Baby Thaddeus, a dwarf-sized gangster who dons the identity of a baby to commit crimes, and Ignatz "Ratso" Ratzkiwatzki, a mob boss who kidnaps Professor Nimnul and forced him to use his Gigantico Raygun to shrink down buildings so he could let his daughter, Buffy, play with them.
Speaking of The Little Mermaid, there was an episode based on The Emperor and the Nightingale, another story by Hans Christian Andersen. Like Ursula, the inventor was a neutral character, who believed he was doing the right thing by replacing the nightingale with a mechanical one to please the emperor. Here, not only is the inventor the Emperor's sister, but also a villain who tried to overthrow him by using her mechanism and illusions to drive him insane so she could turn his empire into a shady resort.
Chip 'n Dale: Rescue Rangers was a fun show, I don't remember loving it AS much as, say, DuckTales, Darkwing Duck or Goof Troop, at the time anyway, but I still watched it quite a bit. The Rescue Rangers didn't have quite the Rogue's Gallery as other Disney TV shows at the time, the only recurring ones I ever saw were Fat Cat and his gang and Professor Normal Nimnul. I actually don't have that much to say or add regarding these guys, other than how I thought it was a neat detail how Fat Cat was originally the pet of criminal Aldrin Klordane who was actually trying to undermine and work under his master during the multi-episode pilot. Not that I don't think they're funny or interesting in their own unique ways, there's just not much I'd like to talk about... Which isn't the case with Sweet Pete, the main antagonist of the Chip 'n Dale: Rescue Rangers movie. That whole movie is bizarre, even if I do like how it's basically a continuation of Who Framed Roger Rabbit, only with even more animation styles and characters. I'm still not sure what to think of the whole thing, but regarding Sweet Pete... Well, first off, let me repeat what the the makers of the movie said in regards to how they settled on a grown-up Peter Pan as the main antagonist of the movie. Initially, they were going to have Pluto in that role, to mirror Chip and Dale's rivalry with the dog, but that proved difficult to work into the narrative they were creating. They then decided on the "child actor who became washed up once they grew up" angle, and initially wanted to have Charlie Brown in the part, but couldn't secure the rights from the Schultz estate, so they went with Peter Pan. What I'm getting at is that the unfortunate implications by having this character specifically be Peter Pan was not intentional on the filmmakers part, but even still, it feels like incredibly poor taste given what actually happened to Bobby Driscoll, the actor who played Peter Pan. Feels like more considerations should have been made, even if they weren't aware of what happened to Bobby (which I admittedly wasn't until people pointed this out).
The situation definitely seems to be confusing as the video said it was. Also there is one other detail. The Charlie Brown owners were reportedly horrified by the idea.
I feel like someone on the crew ought to have known about the Bobby Driscoll situation even if the writers and directors didn't. I mean, it wasn't super famous, but it wasn't a well-kept secret either.
I believe that the notorious billionaire Howard Hughes was at least partially responsible for Bobby Driscoll's downfall. I believe also that the source of this information was the equally notorious Walt Disney biography "Walt Disney: Hollywood's Dark Prince", which is full of lies and half-truths that so many people seem to just believe unquestioningly. In any case, Driscoll should be a Disney Legend. It's the least they can do to make it up to him.
Fat cat is easily one of my fave villains and I could totally see him working Business with Ratigan! I could see them both in agreement with plans and their minions, saying in unison, ' Good help is so hard to find these days!' 😂
At 38:00 I just have to note, the bootleg version of Sweet Pete’s head was just the fur color scheme of Fat Cat and the mustache, however the shape of his head is that of Marie from the Aristocats, even her cute hairstyle with the bow. Hence why he has a more cuter kitten like appearance than in the cartoon.
The one One-Off Villain that was rememberable to me is Mrs. Sweeney from episode "Pie in the Sky". Mainly because her plan of luring swallows to her, making them into stuffing of her pies which she plans to sell to stores as chicken pies. And the fact that worked until Rescue Rangers showed up. Yes, in this series we have a villain who has actually murdered hundreds if not thousands of innocent birds for her pies.
@@philipphalter926 Yes and she has a son named Todd. Also two cats named Jack and Nickels and yes, Jim Cummings voices them with Jack Nicholson impression.
About the controversy surrounding Bobby Drissoll in the Rescue rangers reboot, i'm in total agreement about people lashing out at the writers of this film. Hollywood and its treatment of child stars has been happening BEFORE The Reboot came out and it's still being discussed today with Quiet on Set Documentary.
It really would have been better if they hadn't done so with Peter Pan. I mean especially since we know Bobby wasn't just the voice actor...he was also rotoscope. Now I still think they could have done this with Peter Pan characters, but maybe used Wendy instead since Disney Wendy spends more time nagging than actually doing anything that she was brought to Neverland to do.
I find it kinda interesting that both of the main villains from the show spun off from the original big bad that also brought together the heroes. That definitely has some nice symbolic meaning and in a more continuity-focused show, like Gargoyles, that probably would have come up again as a plot point.
If I were to decide who should be a villain in the Chip N' Dale Rescue Rangers film it would be bendy (the fosters home version, not the indie horror version one). I personally think the film's biggest strength is its world building. Almost everything is possible. I even had an idea in mind for an adult orientated serielized series continuation of that universe which stars Koko the clown as he goes on various adventures while trying to refind his own place in an always moving world. There are various villains I thought of having there like the man in the suit, Mandela Gabriel, CDI Mario, 2023 Velma, Ren hoek, paddy the pelican, Oro and peek, the drawn together gang, Holli Would, evil toons cartoon monster and skitzo the 1920's killer bear. As well as various loved, hated, popular and obscure characters that can appear like GLaDOS, Hilda, Tulip Olsen, Molly Mcgee, Anne Boonchuy, Big Daddy and Little Sister (bioshock) Annoying Orange, Pear, SpongeBob SquarePants, Izuku Midoriya, pibby, the Gunstinger, the glamrock animatronics, stitch, Madeline, Coraline, misfortune Ramirez Hernandez, Iruma Suzuki, the first three jojos, om nom, max and marry, the enchanted drawing, crusader rabbit, the rabbids, angel Gabby, Jin kazama, the troll face, Mr. douchebag, lineman, pac man, Nimona, Ben the cow, osmosis Jones, the DHMIS trio, Spyro the dragon (Skylanders), captain underpants, senator Steven Armstrong, Legoshi, monokuma, Jinx (League of Legends) and much more. I did a whole slideshow about it, take a look (by the way, the Hebrew word are the names of the characters' voice actors in Hebrew): docs.google.com/presentation/d/1cXXjV8zjwF0r2J-V0DW4fJjguVny0sL84iHirv-m2Hw/edit?usp=drivesdk
Reminds me of an idea for a 4X Strategy/Party Game hybrid I’ve been workshopping called “Parodization” inspired by Civilization, Dokapon Kingdom, & Mario Party with a title inspired by Parodius. The main gimmick, apart from the whole genre hybrid thing, is that all the leaders are “Parodies” of pre-established fictional characters, usually ones that are more obscure and/or neglected. A couple of them include parodies of Nenene from R.O.D. The TV, Iggy Koopa, Mr. Snootie from PB&J Otter, Washu from Tenchi Muyo, Phoebe from Hey Arnold, Cousin Dexter from Winnie The Pooh, King Eidilleg from The Black Cauldron, & more. I was thinking about having 32 characters in base game with more added as dlc
There is one thing you missed. Before the movie Frank Angones came up with his own idea for a reboot that would've also had ties to The Rescuers and The Great Mouse Detective. Characters from both would've even shown up.
The movie feels like it has so little real connective tissue to the show, it would have been nice if they at least utilised its main villain. The fact that they seemingly never even considered using him as the big bad says it all.
I wished my favourites past Disney animated series like The Gummie Bears, Darkwing Duck, Mighty Ducks,Wuzzles, The Little Mermaid, Aladdin, Hercules, House of Mouse, Kim Possible and American Dragon Jake Long are onto a complete Blu- Ray (with the entire episodes)at last just like they did for Chip and Dale Rescue Rangers and Tangled the animated series because they deserved to be released onto Blu-Ray at last more than the Disney films.
@@BenNelson-zl6lj I know right Sylvester so fun to imitate and his voice is really easy to do as well. What you do is you essentially put your tongue in between your lips whenever you kind of say anything that starts with the letter S or TH so it sounds like you have a lisp, the same thing is used for Daffy duck when he says you’re despicable it’s just really fun to do
I’m excited for him to get to big hero 6 for this reason alone. I don’t care in the slightest about the original movie, but the show and it’s characters have a special place in my heart
You said that Nimnul finally recognized that the Rescue Rangers kept foiling his schemes. Well, so did Aldrin, right before he was defeated for good. Maybe if THEY decided to team up again... Well, we'll probably never know for sure.
Glad I’m not the only fan who was thoroughly disappointed by the RR movie. Back when the film was announced, I was foolish enough to have hope that DTVA had been given the budget to make a full length animated movie (think A Goofy Movie or the Phineas & Ferb movies). I was…. I for a rude awakening. Not only did I feel like it had some weird sense of superiority to the original show, but it was also this weird sort-of Roger Rabbit sequel that may or may not take place in that universe in the present day (the movie does reference Roger Rabbit more than once) but doesn’t really have anything to do with that film’s story or characters because, y’know, it’s supposed to be about the Rescue Rangers (although it kinda feels like it doesn’t want to be a rescue rangers movie). Also, did anyone else wonder if the cop who’s helping them solve the case being named Ellie was supposed to be a nod to Eddie Valiant? If so, it’s another major letdown, because her connection with the toons & supposed personal stake in the case are such weak sauce, especially when compared to Eddie’s arc.
In regards to the next video, Once Upon a Time had three characters named Ursula. The first was the Greek Goddess voiced by Yvette Nicole Brown who in largely a figure of myth. The second was Regina/Evil Queen (Lana Parrilla) posing as the goddess to get Ariel to help her kill Snow White (This one has the most in common with the character from the movie). The third was a recurring villain from season 4 that was essentially a grunt for Maleficent whose backstory had more in common with movie Ariel. She was played by Merrin Dungey/Tiffany Boone. For more information check out the sixth episode of Season 3 ("Ariel") and the fifteenth episode of Season 4 ("Poor Unfortunate Soul")
I actually think the Chip N Dale movie could have actually worked had the villain been Julius The Cat from the Alice Comedies. Julius ironically could be considered a bootleg toon himself, given he was a rip-off of Felix The Cat and that could possibly add to Julius' motives. It also helps that Julius in the Alice Comedies shorts has done a LOT of horrible and sadistic stuff, making him more of a villain then a hero. Most notably in Alice The Jail Bird, Alice Gets Stung, and Alice's Orphan. Julius's motivation could be that he is EXTEMELY jealous of Oswald, Mickey, and especially Felix, and started the bootlegging operation not just to make money, but also as revenge. As for Sweet Pete, I find some ideas others have to be equally as bad. Jim Hawkins from Treasure Planet as the villain? These people do realize Bobby Driscoll played Jim Hawkins in the original 1950s Disney Treasure Island? Taran from The Black Cauldron? There is literally no information about what happened to Grant Bardsley after the 80s. I'm not entirely opposed to the idea of a villain Taran but not with the Rescue Rangers plot and I'd prefer him to only briefly be a villain and have a redemption arc. Hear me out: Taran feels inferior to the other Disney characters, tries to do something big to show he can be just as good a protagonist, messes up, the others get angry at him and refuse to forgive him no matter what, they pull the whole DT-87 stunt Della did in Ducktales 2017, it backfires causing Taran to feel nobody cares about him, he decides if he cannot be a hero he'll be a villain, he gets manipulated by another villain [possibly Julius?], the others apologize for going too far and for not realizing Taran felt overshadowed, Taran realizes he was wrong and in a mirror to Gurgi, sacrifices himself to save the day and gets revived and a happy ending. He could even get the sword back as a reward!
I'm in the same boat as Rescue Rangers is one of the earliest cartoons I can remember even though my favorite amongst the early batch of the Disney Afternoon crew is Darkwing. Thank you for alerting me to Mouse Watch, I'm definitely going to read that. I haven't seen the film but I immediately hated it in concept from the trailer. Instead of a grand adventure in-universe, it's basically Galaxy Quest. I'm not saying Galaxy Quest is a bad film, I've not seen it either but I wasn't expecting Chip and Dale to be washed-up actors experiencing their claim to fame for real. Then again after 5 years of development hell as being set in the show's universe, a director change happened in 2019 and a new script was written as a spiritual successor to Roger Rabbit. At least Roger got a cameo. A thing that doesn't sit right with me was that the Rangers weren't 2D animated, they're 3D with bad 2D filter or cel shading. This makes the idea that Dale got 3D surgery even stranger. It also reminded me of a creepypasta about Mickey working a 2D-to-3D machine that used blood in the process. In regards to the Bobby Driscoll controversy, I'm inclined to apply Hanlon's Razor as the writers have gone on record to say they were unaware of Driscoll's hardships. Assuming Anon is correct, odds are Pluto being the villain didn't sit well with the execs since he's one of Disney's Fab 5. I do wonder how far the Pluto draft even got due to the rewrite given the cost of animation. If it didn't get that far, Chip having an ear like Pluto's may have been a leftover from the storyboards that was forgotten during the rewrites. Those kinds of errors can be common. In regards to the Gadget/Monty swap, it's possible that was due to it being current year and not wanting to use the Damsel In Distress trope only to end up with another female stereotype by having her settle down with 42 kids, likely another issue caused by the rewrites complete with a more humorous internet uproar. I will agree with Anon that the trend of the Human-Focused Adaptation is well worn out by now. Ironically the 2014 pitch was more inspired by Alvin And The Chipmunks style wise.
The 2022 movie had so much potential to succeed. It was basically Roger Rabbit brought to the 2020's, with memes like Ugly Sonic, and a whole lot of other references and easter eggs that might have worked. If only they had picked another character as the villain than a washed- up Peter Pan, or just created a new villain, like Roger Rabbit did.
My theory on how toons age is similar to how it was treated by Animaniacs. Public attention and favor provides them with eternal youth and longevity. Slappy Squirrel was supposed to the same age as her Looney Tunes peers, but as she became less marketable, she aged more noticeably than the rest. The Warners themselves are a bit of an exception as they were purposefully hidden from the public eye and remained in a childlike stasis. It doesn't fit every inconsistency, but it works for me.
Oh, also before I forget. Anybody else remember that episode, were Gadget had to choose between a literal cult or her friends. Heavy stuff for the time.😨
In my opinion I feel like the Chip N Dale Rescue Rangers movie could be improved by Julius The Cat from the Alice Comedies being the villain. He's already sadistic in the shorts [especially in Alice's Orphan and Alice Gets Stung], and it would make so much sense for him to want revenge on the other Disney toons. Ironically, Julius' design is a ripoff of Felix The Cat, so a bootleg toon being the bootlegger would be hilarious. He can even use his rubberhose powers to try to capture the Chipmunks. If Peter Pan and Taran [I've seen people wanting Taran to be the villain, which I personally disagree with] really needed to be in the movie as bad guys, have them be bootlegged by Julius, only for it to go wrong, hence Peter becoming Sweet Pete, and Taran getting a 90s cheap/creepy CGI look. They are forced to work with Julius or else everyone they care about will be bootlegged, and they feel awful for even doing this. Chip and Dale would help them redeem themselves and escape from Julius. Perhaps in the ending, in parallel to Gurgi's sacrifice, Taran would jump in front of the chipmunks to stop a Bullet Bill from hitting them. He'd survive, as he was still wearing a Black Cauldron pin. Peter got Jim Hawkins and the robots from Treasure Planet to arrest Julius The Cat. While Peter and Taran still have to do community service, they are relived that they are finally free from Julius, complete with being turned back to normal. Chip and Dale even invite them to guest star on an episode of the Rescue Rangers reboot [after said community service is done].
37:34 I know that that bootleg poster isn’t referencing a real movie, but the Great Lakes DID have a famous pirate; "Roaring" Dan Seavy, who would snuff out nautical lights, causing ships to run aground. From there, he would gather the loot, and sell the goods on the black market. He was eventually arrested, and somehow became a U.S. Marshal later in life. Quite an odd turn of events, for sure.
Prof. Nimnul's design is fascinating to me. He looks so goofy and unintimidating, and his design lacks pretty much any typical villainous design tropes (colors like black, red, and purple, along with pointy or angular shapes, etc.) I think most cartoons would have used his design for a friendly scientist character. But not this guy. This guy causes large-scale disasters. Also, his voice is deeper than I would have expected from looking at him.
@Tadicuslegion78 Actually, it was the opposite. They'd make 5 separate episodes and then edit them down to pasted them together to fit a 2 hour time slot.
The thing that bugs me about the reboot film is that C&D themselves meet when they were kids - in the 1980s. Does that mean that their adventures with Pluto and Donald Duck (meaning the older shorts in the 1940s and 1950s) never happened or are we to assume the chipmunks from the older cartoons could have been a different pair of chipmunks that just happen to be portraying characters that could have also been named Chip and Dale in this universe?
Y'know, I really wouldn't mind if the Rescue Rangers got a Ducktales-style reboot. Seems like there's plenty of material to go off of, and tons of room to make a more story-driven, show with the characters.
10:20 I really appreciate the small detail where the Meeps fall down the hole with Fatcat and also get beaten up by the moles, while Snout manages to escape.
My favorite joke in the remake movie is actually in the credits. They make sure to thank their legal team in it. My jaw hit the floor when I saw how they did the Sweet Pete story, I already knew the Bobby Driscoll story and I sure hope that was an accident.
If the video games and comics are any indication, he either paid Nimnul off to get a machine of his own and a place in the scheme, or the rather large cat rolled the rather small human to jack the machine and dumpster the dogs.
35:42 Charlie Brown: They think they can just push me around good Ol Charlie Brown, the neighborhood resident punching bag? Well, screw that I have enough! The rabbit has the bootleg machine now... and it's time... time for... REVENGE!!!
i don't mind switching between big and small screen in future videos cause many of my favorite media or character(good and evil) of disney were on small screen
That and let’s be honest with ourselves, the early 2000’s and 2020s gave us some flawed or forgettable film villains. But of course there’s some diamonds in the rough like Yzma and Gantu.
@@KaizokuGaeru makes sense many 2000s disney movie movie were small fry in evil or were more antagonist than villain(there is difference) or were evil but their movie just fell through cracks which is shame
I really wish they hadn't used Bobby's backstory for their villain in this movie because it was easily one of Disney's darkest sins from the past. Like, I'm 100% cool with them using Peter Pan as the villain, but change the story so that's it's tasteful enough.
my opinion of sweet pete before learning about fate of peter pan original voice actor left me disturb especially since he only toon to age which made no sense since all other toons both in the movie and in other meida stayed the same age since their last apperance. which made headcanon for me that sweet pete is bootleg disney peter pan that went wrong all sense of the word instead of being real one. i'm also glad they didn't do evil charlie brown cause that kid suffered enough as it in his own media.
Thanks! I think when people fall back on buzzwords (which happens to us all occasionally if there's no better way to put it), it makes it easier to discard the criticism as being in bad faith. If there's something I like about the remakes, or if there's a change that I feel made sense, I try to acknowledge that, as well.
@@ColinLooksBack ain't that the god's honest truth I feel a lot of online criticism has been taken over by grifters who only care about banking off the rage of people who fear change with you I feel more like you're looking at them as movies which is how it should be.
@@justint8851that doesn't mean all the remakes are bad or at least try something different. I heard Mulan was made to be more closer in tone to the original tale.
The animation quality in the series is MUCH better than I remember. Also, these cross-dressing chipmunks awake in me some stuff I want to keep burried deep down.
The animation quality in these series was totally all over the board. There are some episodes of "Bonkers" that look quite shoddy, but there are others that have some wonderful, practically hidden treasures of character work. It really depended on which studios were covering which episodes, and even then it could vary from shot to shot. A 90's Disney cartoon truly was like a box of chocolates.
If I had a theory on who Pooj the Honey Bear is a mishmash of, I think Pooh might have been spliced with Gloria the hippo from Dreamworks' Madagascar and Chien-Po from Mulan. And for Tigger, he might have been mixed with Alex the Lion from Madagascar and Vitaly from Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted (with maybe even a hint of the Chester the Cheetah from the Cheetos commercials if you count the spots I saw on his arms).
I do recall that the official trailer for the 2022 film on RUclips had once titled Sweet Pete as "Mean Dean" in the closed captions, so the 4chan post might have some merit (unless that 4chan post was made AFTER the trailer's release of course)
Sweet Pete is what happens when you take all of Bobby Driscol's Disney roles including Peter Pan and mix them all together with Carl from Aqua Teen Hunger Force.
First of all, I found this video after work today, so thanks once again. Your content is always enjoyable. Secondly, while I can agree that Fat Cat should have been the main antagonist, I've thought of two alternative ideas that would be a good not so obvious pick than Sweet Pete, Pluto and Charlie Brown. Sarousch: The main villain of villain of The Hunchback of Notre Dame 2. Years of being seen as a living joke among Disney villains and neglect from the company would cause him to finally snap and prove that he is a top tier villain, going a lot farther than most would have comfortable with. His circus would also be a good front to hide his activities. Allen Gregory with\without Richard: Having lost everything after the cancellation of his show, his father being kicked out of his position, and Jeremy and Julie leaving them, the spiteful bratty Stewie Griffin wannabe now runs a bootlegging company that he plans to dominate across every animation company across the world.. While I'm sure no one wants to remember these two, admit it. It would be so cathartic seeing these two have karma hit them hard after all the crappy they pulled on their show. I can't guarantee if they would be great twists in execution, especially considering this films other problems, I feel they would be better than what we got.
While these idea's are interesting there are some problem with it. 1. Using a villain who's whole schtick is that no one takes him seriously risks making a flat or uninteresting villain. 2. I could be wrong about this but I don't think Allen Gregory was a Disney show? If so they wouldn't be able to use him.
@@rafithomas Allen Gregory is owned by Fox, so I think they can use him if they want to. It’s not like they have plans to bring the show back. And like I said, there are probably other better ideas out there. I’ve seen a few people saying Julius the Cat from the Alice Comedies would’ve made for sense, and there are pretty good reasons for that, so he’s a better idea than mine.
I gotta hand it to you Colin you did a great job doing a history on the villans from chip and dale rescue rangers and I hope that you do your disney villains retrospective on ursula from the little mermaid
I didn’t absolutely hate the Chip 'n Dale movie, but I can see where people are coming from, and I also don’t believe the whole thing with Peter Pan was really intentional.
I think they should've made Pluto an evil talking character (named Mean Dean) and the main antagonist of the movie, since it makes a lot more sense than Peter Pan being an evil old man (plus, I find Peter Pan being evil very upsetting since he's very popular even to this day, and if he's evil, who's gonna defeat Captain Hook? Not to mention that this portrayal of Peter Pan as the main antagonist is similar to the tragedy that occurred with Peter Pan's original child actor, which is really sad), as Pluto was an arch nemesis of Chip and Dale countless times. Oh, such a wasted opportunity.
If they still wanted Sweet Pete to be in the movie, I think Sweet Pete should not have been actually Peter Pan, but his bootleg counterpart who got corrupted and aged, thus becoming unpopular unlike Peter Pan and became a criminal boss.
@@Dylan-Hootonit would be interesting of a sequel for bound being a Clone without realizing it. Also it seemed they weren't aware about the actor situation.
I never saw the reboot movie. I couldn't bring myself to after seeing some clips. Everything felt mean spirited and like it was putting down the og series, which is sad because I have fond memories of it. Even had some vhs tapes with episodes my dad recorded for me. And the theme song is dang catchy.
I do wonder for later entries what will count as tv animation. Like obviously stuff like phineas and Ferb and Kim Possible are Disney staples with plenty of villains to talk about ok just Kim possible has a lot of villains maybe not Phineas and Ferb. But other shows that aired on Jetix which was a Disney thing like Yin Yang Yo! Might be different. I like hearing about the Disney movie villains sure but the TV animation has some really good villains especially lately with ones like Andrias or Belos
Wonder if Phineas and Ferb , Milo Murphy Law and Hamster and Greatal will be in serpent videos or the same as there from the same creators and universe thanks to Dr Doof appearing in all 3
I always felt that it could've been more interesting to make Sweet Pete into a parody/bootleg character who thinks he's the real Peter Pan and that the whole "puberty backstory" was just a scene from a parody he was in once.
That would be an interesting twist for a sequel.
Originally it was going to be Charlie Brown as the villain.
@chasformer3091Because of the concept of a wash up child star actor
Though to be honest I think they should have had an adult Caillou as the villain of the movie.
@chasformer3091
Would you be fine with meta if it was anti-woke? (As in the main villain would be 2023 Ariel, and Mr. Birchum shows up as a supporting character portrayed in a postitive light)
As a kid I always had a headcanon that Rescuers, Rescue Rangers and The Great Mouse Detective all took place in the same universe. It was fun to imagine these little critters having a long legacy of helping people
Dude, I could TOTALLY see that!! That would work so well!! Somebody should write a crossover fanfic.
some people think that Cinderella's mice might be the ancestors of the Rescue Aid Society and maybe Gadet and JM in the Rescue Rangers
I could totally picture the Rescue Rangers coming to the aid of Bernard and Bianca!
@motxmod I remember that. Too bad it fell through...I was looking forward to it at the time.

The sister Ursula was always mentioning...they were really close.
Foxglove proved to be very popular.

@@ColinLooksBack So what do you think about the fact Judge Doom was at last year's and this Halloween's Oggie Boogie Bash Treat Trail?
Keep in mind. Roger Rabbit is partially owned by Spielberg who also co-founded Dreamworks aka the studio famous for mocking Disney.
@@ColinLooksBack no mention of female villains in Rescue Rangers.
earlier this year Fatcat reappeared at Disneyland during the Disney Channel night event. and you're right. another Disney tv series villain showed up at Disney's California Adventure for the Oogie Boogie Bash event, namely Phineas and Ferb's resident mad scientist Dr.
Fat Cat had an especially fiendish plot in one Rescue Rangers comic for Disney Adventures magazine that I recall:
In it, the Rangers are investigating the fact that all the squirrels and mice in the park have disappeared.
Vanessa: "Why do you want to destroy the city?"
Heinz: "Because nobody really takes a mad scientist seriously, until he leveled a city or two."
I always had that certain vibe that Fat Cat bared some likeness to Prof. Ratigan, them both being villainous animal crime bosses.

Regarding Peter Pan... whole movie oozes with cynicism. More than likely they knew damn well what they were doing. And bear in mind that they could've used ANY Disney kid character. Could've even made up one from scratch.
It did sound line they were on a deadline. Who knows what was going on behind the scenes.

Chicken Little would have made an AWESOME villain.
We live in a world where a French chef is considered more of a villain than Monstro. Let that sink in.
Probably better than Francois from Dead Rising 2.
The more we complain the more likely we'll get a standalone Monstro video.
Monstro was more like a force of nature.
"Let that SINK in". Was that pun intended? Hahahaha.

All terrifying and even a tad tragic, of course.
And then there's the Sonic version of the character, Zomom, who even has the yellow color.
I remember a villain from Dragon Ball Super who was based on Pooh.

The video did say that the situation about the movie behind the scenes is quite confusing.
The original pitch from 2014 was going to be a more dark, noir story set in the universe proper instead of the spiritual successor to Roger Rabbit we got that. The current version came about due to a director change in 2019 which explains the sloppy use of Peter Pan assuming Anon was correct.
I dunno. I’m glad they went with the Roger Rabbit route since I don’t think anyone really wanted a “live-action” adaptation of the TV series.

26:55 Doofenshmirtz: "Hold my Inator!"

A new Colin LooksBack video on my birthday! And about one of my favorite shows as a kid! 🎉
Here, not only is the inventor the Emperor's sister, but also a villain who tried to overthrow him by using her mechanism and illusions to drive him insane so she could turn his empire into a shady resort.
that happened on Chip n´ Dale series not on The Little Mermaid and it was SO CLEVER at it!!
Yes, in this series we have a villain who has actually murdered hundreds if not thousands of innocent birds for her pies.
wait she was called mrs. sweeney and made pies ? Does that mean she was based on mrs. lovett from sweeney todd ?

42:54 I look forward to talking more about villains that were in Kingdom Hearts.
I wonder if it was a way to address it considering the Charlie Brown stuff beforehand.
The main gimmick, apart from the whole genre hybrid thing, is that all the leaders are “Parodies” of pre-established fictional characters, usually ones that are more obscure and/or neglected. There is one thing you missed. Before the movie Frank Angones came up with his own idea for a reboot that would've also had ties to The Rescuers and The Great Mouse Detective. Characters from both would've even shown up.
I wish they could have had Fat Cat be an actual villain in the reboot instead of just a cameo, just wasted potential.
The movie feels like it has so little real connective tissue to the show, it would have been nice if they at least utilised its main villain. The fact that they seemingly never even considered using him as the big bad says it all.
I kind of liked how they branched out a bit more, instead of just relying on old familiar faces.
But they did put him in the episode 257 flashback in the movie
I wish the movie had actual writers
I wished my favourites past Disney animated series like The Gummie Bears, Darkwing Duck, Mighty Ducks,Wuzzles, The Little Mermaid, Aladdin, Hercules, House of Mouse, Kim Possible and American Dragon Jake Long are onto a complete Blu- Ray (with the entire episodes)at last just like they did for Chip and Dale Rescue Rangers and Tangled the animated series because they deserved to be released onto Blu-Ray at last more than the Disney films.

My idea was to have Chicken Little as the villain.
I love the Julius idea, and Taran getting some love is great too
@0:35 I wish that Katydid/Mantis guy on the far right made it onto the final show somehow he looks cool
Heavy stuff for the time.😨
And now the cult is real!
I feel much more validated on my opinions of the Rescue Rangers movie.
All those shadowy groups remind me a lot of F.O.W.L.

I know that that bootleg poster isn’t referencing a real movie, but the Great Lakes DID have a famous pirate; "Roaring" Dan Seavy, who would snuff out nautical lights, causing ships to run aground. From there, he would gather the loot, and sell the goods on the black market.
He was eventually arrested, and somehow became a U.S. Marshal later in life. Quite an odd turn of events, for sure.
Nice to see you cover books in detail for the first time.
He reminds me a bit of a Crash Bandicoot scientist
Since the show has such a cute tone, it feels like they wanted to make 100% sure that he wouldn't look scary to little kids.
Great vid!!! I am SO excited for the little mermaid because Ariel is my fav Disney princess :)
Man, what a time it was when these Disney shows more or less made a movie/an epic and chopped it up into like 2-6 episodes as the pilot arc
@Tadicuslegion78 Actually, it was the opposite. They'd make 5 separate episodes and then edit them down to pasted them together to fit a 2 hour time slot.
@@michaelrusso906 That was pretty much what Aladdin 2, Cinderella 2, Belle’s magical world, and Atlantis 2 were.
Sadly it was cancelled, but I would really like DTVA to revisit it one day.
I'd rather it not be like the Ducktales reboot quite frankly. I disliked the rather cynical approach to the writing.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who noticed hat Mole has an uncanny resemblance to Winnie the Pooh.
Imagine if Fat Cat was one of the Cats captured by Nimnuls robot dogs and used to power his Doomsday machine? That would've been some nice karma
If the video games and comics are any indication, he either paid Nimnul off to get a machine of his own and a place in the scheme, or the rather large cat rolled the rather small human to jack the machine and dumpster the dogs.
Imagine if Sweet Pete was an imposter and the real Peter Pan came in exposong him as a fraud like the ending of Camp Lazlo
Good idea for a sequel. Would be interesting to somehow contact the directors about.
Oh boy are you gonna have some fun when you get to Gargoyles lol
Prof. Nimnul was truly just proto Dr. Doofensmurtz
Plus we might get a video game episode like the theme park one.
29:21 For those of you who were naive and innocent until Colin mentioned that cult… you learn something new every day.
I really wish they hadn't used Bobby's backstory for their villain in this movie because it was easily one of Disney's darkest sins from the past. Like, I'm 100% cool with them using Peter Pan as the villain, but change the story so that's it's tasteful enough.
I've never seen this cartoon at all but watching this makes me want to see it
Can’t wait for him to cover Bill Cipher
Still got a while to go before that.
The one I'm most excited for is Oogie Boogie.
Wonder if he'll do a collab with RoundTable For Bill ?
I can.
my opinion of sweet pete before learning about fate of peter pan original voice actor left me disturb especially since he only toon to age which made no sense since all other toons both in the movie and in other meida stayed the same age since their last apperance. which made headcanon for me that sweet pete is bootleg disney peter pan that went wrong all sense of the word instead of being real one. i'm also glad they didn't do evil charlie brown cause that kid suffered enough as it in his own media.
That would be interesting to see in a sequel.
I miss the Disney Afternoon😢
Can I just say I love that you're able to point out the flaws in these remakes without saying a bunch of Buzzwords

Fun fact: the Hungarian dub translated Fat Cat as Pukkandúr a punny portmanteau of "pukkan" meaning "to burst" and "kandúr" meaning "tomcat".
Can't wait to hear you talk about Ursula. She's my favorite Disney Animation Villain.
When he reaches the villains from Bonkers, I hope he covers Chick and Stu among the one-shot villains 😁
I do recall that the official trailer for the 2022 film on RUclips had once titled Sweet Pete as "Mean Dean" in the closed captions, so the 4chan post might have some merit (unless that 4chan post was made AFTER the trailer's release of course)
"One pinch of salt ... you didn’t."
"Of course not. Manx pinched it."
In Spanish (American Spanish), Fat Cat is Called: Bad Face
I didn’t absolutely hate the Chip 'n Dale movie, but I can see where people are coming from, and I also don’t believe the whole thing with Peter Pan was really intentional.
yea it was really misguided and comes across as someone talking about a topic they aren't familiar with.
Nimnull is just Robotnik without the funding from the casinos
No one tell him about how shitty Peter Pan was in the original story.
Glitch is clearly a Tsundere.
