I usually just cut the top off in way that I can put I back on but this is cool!! Thanks!
Tbh you could do an entire mini segment on roasting the pumpkin seeds. My mom will use diffrent seasoning. imo it's better then sunflower seeds because there's more surface area for flavoring
👏👏👏👏 Absolutely brilliant!!!!
Absolutely brilliant. I don't think I've ever seen a life hack video where I keep every hack.

@@brendan6747 very well said 🥰🎃
We carve pumpkins every year and can say if the hole is on the bottom the pumpkin will sink and rot A LOT faster, as its weight is sitting on the opening. For some designs it looks better though, because you can carve the top.🤷♀️
Another helpful tip is to spray some kind of clear varnish on the finished piece to protect the raw flesh from rotting too fast.
I always save the top as a lid, thought everyone did that o-o
@@DonChillum yes sure, if you cut the top you‘d keep it as a lid but for some designs it’s more useful to cut the bottom and keep it as a ‚tray‘
@@DonChillum most people do
@@DonChillum by lid do you mean cut it off, scrape it out then out the top back on?
If so, only physcopaths don’t do that
In my town, we NEED to cut the bottom instead of the tops. People go around pooping in the Jack-o-Lanterns.
just finished carving my pumpkin last night and i didn’t know about this video!! damn cool though
Also you can PLANT the pumpkin seeds to make more pumpkins next year
This is literally the most wholesome yet helpful thing I've seen in my life ❤️

Another great tip is to baste the inside with vinegar or a thin layer of salt & cinnamon if you don't mind the discoloration. It will keep mold from taking over your pumpkin for quite longer and both options are animal safe if you live near wildlife that might attempt to eat it.
Hairspray and petroleum Jelly work as well.
Ty!
@@pickleeater3102Those will not be animal safe and are bad for the environment.
@Noahdaz lol, it's all the better if it keeps animals away from my jack-o-lanterns, and millions of people wear products in their hair every day. Thanks for playing.
@@pickleeater3102 Animals aren't attempting to eat those peoples' hair to survive and your jack-o'-lantern isn't more valuable than your local animal life/the environment.

This man is so wholesome
I've never seen you before, but between the pumpkin hack, the intriguing channel name and your passing resemblance to Jordan Peele, this was an instant subscription.
This guy is my favorite npc, drops real life tutorials in time of need.
😂😂😂
Damn I just thought he lived at home with mom a little too long but you straight calling him an npc that's cold man! 🤙
This guy is amazing.
My husband brought out power tools our first Halloween together. I was stunned but I was impressed with his artistry with the clunky tools. He was so happy because his ex refused to let him use the power tools- he forgot I was raised by a mechanical engineer who literally pulled out a chainsaw to cut our thanksgiving turkey when our turkey carving saw broke
We always cut around the stem and then put it back as the lid, minus a small triangle for airflow so the candle would stay lit. The trick is to cut at an angle so the bottom of the hole is narrower than the top, or the top of the lid is wider than the bottom. That's what keeps it from just falling into the pumpkin
You can also keep the stem intact and cut in the top, just make sure you make the cut around the stem at a slant so the little lid you've made has a ledge to sit on. It's also helpful to have a little notch to act as a key. So the lid always goes on the same way and lines up with the rest of the pumpkin.
We would often cut sort of a zig zag shape around the whole way to get the sort of key effect, and the pattern fits with the angular jack o lantern face
Its simple. You just put the top back on. 🗿
I mean that's what we always do... hell the stem is the handle used to lift the top off and on again to light the candle.
@@thomasbailey921 you can still use the stem to lift the pumpkin up to light the candle underneath
@@Daily_Meat_Dealer well... yeah. But the way he said it made it sound like in order to cut a hole out of the top you can't have the stem back on. Which is just wrong.
Well, the stem intact will actually prevent rotting for longer as well, so while it is also simple to cut off the stem, this way has longer lasting benefits.
@@izzys_cringey well honestly it wouldn't matter for me cuz the squirrels would eat it either way stem disconnected or connected
Me and my mom tried carving pumpkins from the bottom for the first time today and we HATED that the stem was in the way so thanks for giving us the bowl idea! Though now that I think about it it’s kind of just common sense. We did actually use my pottery tools though, so at least we have 9 braincells 1 to drive to get the pumpkins, 1 to get the money to buy/grow the pumpkins, 1 to drive back with the pumpkins, 1 to get the right tools, 1 to trace instead of winging it, 1 to use knife’s without cutting ourselves, 1 to light a candle without catching on fire, 1 to put it on the porch with nothing flammable around, under, or on it, and 1 to figure out how many brain cells we actually have (9). YOU GET THE POINT.😭🎃💀💖
Oh how much I would have needed this video for guidance before our little pumpkin carving contest we had in my mom's lil Halloween party on the weekend- :']

I've always done my lanterns with a real candle. No hole in the cop = burnt pumpkin. On top of that, a base that's been compromised = a flat rotten pumpkin much quicker than if you just stopped trying to find cute ways of altering what just works to begin with. There's no reason to not cut the top because when you cut the top, the top fits back on top and looks just fine stem and all.
That's how us old school folks do it. Always worked for me.
What about a mini chimney to allow fresh ventillation from the top?
...or you could cut the top with a taper so it doesn't fall in? If you use a real candle 🕯... your method is crap
My family literally makes me use my bare hands to grab the guts out and I got used to it so my brother never comes over but when he comes over for Halloween he’s going to hate it lol
This carving method is the best! It has saved me a lot of time and stress. Now that I have a grandson, who will be 17 months old, I’m excited to drag out the old pumpkin carving tools!
Still debatable, yet interesting, is worming animals (such as hogs) with pumpkin seeds.
I’ve seen farmers buy up leftover pumpkins, after Halloween, just for the purpose of feeding hogs. A bonus for doing this might be antihelmithic properties. I know scientists have debated this one, but I think the seeds were pulverized, or made into a tincture. Some things work best, without alteration.
Regardless, pumpkins and pumpkin guts still provide a tasty snack for the piggies.
Oh yeah, my dogs always loved pumpkin guts too. I know they are safe, and pumpkin is often found in commercial dog chow, and even recommended as a snack (guts, seeds, or flesh)!
“Yo you a bottom or a top?”
“Dude what the hell!”
“What? I was talking about pumpkins!”
“Oh.”
“Oh.”
This dude absolutely won my heart he’s too cute 🥹💓✨
Big pumpkins will yeild a pumpkin-y but not as floral or sweet taste. SMALL pumpkins give you INCREDIBLE pumpkin bread :) big works too!
I mix em. 2 cups little, 1/2 jack o lantern leftovers, and 1 cup Chinese pumpkin squash.
Lotsa pumpkin spice, roast and hull the seeds and use those instead of walnuts. Family goes nuts for it every year.
Also- bought a grain mill to save money on making weird flour- turns out, you can set the stones to where it takes all the pumpkin and sunflower seeds out of their shells instantly. Life changing!
This dude is so wholesome I really like his vids.
This feels like carving pumpkins with extra steps
And yet it's somehow easier his way
Butter knife, sharpie and a dessert spoon is all I need
Pumpkin Pie, Oven Roasted Pumpkin Seeds, and a Jack O Lantern.

Yes!!! My Mom started doing this in the early 80's....😊
Wow! What an outstanding presentation. I learned a lot and thank you for all that. By the way, a potato peeler when pushed in like a knife can make a really good set of small holes that look like warts in pumpkin light. It’s also great for smoothing out cut out areas. Keep up the good work! Seriously, this is one of the few vids I’ve truly enjoyed lately. Thanks again.

If you cut a small notch while cutting the circle out then you can more easily lineup the pumpkin with the detached bottom/lid part
