Petchaburi Soi 5 (เพชรบุรี ซอย 5) has long been one of my go-to street food streets in Bangkok. Starting in the evening at around 4 pm, the entire road starts to fill with street food carts selling all sorts of Thai dishes. You’ll find everything from rice and curry to soup noodles, snacks, and fresh fruits and vegetables. It had been a few years since I had explore Petchaburi Soi 5 (เพชรบุรี ซอย 5), so in this Thai street food tour I’m taking you with me to some of my old favorites, and some new spots. Enjoy!
Yam mama (ยำมาม่า) - 50 THB ($1.52) - This is the first dish I tried. MAMA are Thai instant noodles and this is a completely different way to eat them - in mixed salad form.
Khanom krok (ขนมครก) - 30 THB ($0.92) - Coconut griddle cakes are one of my favorites, they are crunchy on the outside and gooey in the center. Don’t miss this Thai street food snack.
Cha yen (ชาเย็น) - 25 THB ($0.76) per cup - Thai tea
Pad thai (ผัดไทย), Hoy tod (หอยทอด) - This was formerly a street food cart that now has their own permanent shophouse location. They make pretty decent Pad Thai and they hoy tod, which in this case in a mussels omelet, is pretty good as well.
Total price - 125 THB ($3.81)
Nam prik pla too (น้ำพริกปลาทู) - For something a little healthier, I’m a huge fan of nam pirk pla too, a pounded chili mackerel sauce that’s eaten with vegetables.
Total price - 70 THB ($2.14) for everything
Chao guay (เฉาก๋วย) - 25 THB ($0.76) - For dessert, I had grass jelly with ice. The owner was so friendly and happy.
Haircut - 100 THB ($3.05)
Pad kra prao moo krob kai dao (ผัดกระเพราหมูกรอบไข่ดาว) - Final meal of this Bangkok street food tour, I headed across the street to Petchaburi Soi 10 to seek out one of my old time favorites. The stall was still there, and they make a pretty good plate of Thai crispy pork belly fried with basil.

Thai ministry of tourism should give you some award since you did a very good job at promoting Thailand. No idea how much money you have generate to Thai economy but it should be a lot. Anyway, thanks for your great video.

I haven’t watched your video in a long time. My dad was a big fan of your channel and would constantly watch your videos. Today marks 2 months since his passing and I decided to finally come back to your channel. Thank you for always making good quality content on RUclips. I’m sure my dad is in heaven watching your videos as he would have if he was still here. I miss watching your videos with him and it won’t be the same. But I want to thank you for helping my dad forget about his illness when he was fighting it. Your videos especially in Thailand made him feel like he was there, it made him forget that he was going through chemo. Thank you Mark, you may not realize it but your videos touch the lives of others in many ways.

What I love about Thai food in addition to the obvious freshness is the mix of cooked and raw, sweet and salty, hot and cool, mild and intense, making it so very satisfying. It hits every part of your taste buds.
My beautiful sister in law is from Thailand. She has made Thai food for me since I was about 14 years old so 40+ years of fried rice, kowphat, beef ball soup, ginger beef, homade spring roll. So many others but those are my favorites. Sadly my brother passed away and she is here without him now and misses him so. Her beautiful hair is now shorn from her head to mourn him. I wish I could take her home to Thailand one more time. He got exposed to a chemical in the military and was never able to take her back, but she never said a word as she was so caring of him. I really wish she could see Bangkok like this, and enjoy once more the life she gave up to be such a loving wife to my brother. We are all so fortunate to have her as part of our family. Thanks for the videos as I have always wondered what it was like for her over there. Pretty awesome.

Absolutely LOVE how the lady at 23:00 ran into 7-Eleven to reup the milk in order to ensure her product was served exactly how she intended. Very sweet and honest vendor.

Tonight, I ordered from a Thai food restaurant for the very first time in life. I got PAD THAI with shrimp and chicken and something called SIAM WINGS, (Huge boneless chicken wing stuffed with ground pork, bean thread, green onions, black mushrooms, served with Mark's favorite, chili sauce!! - When the order arrived, I rushed to my Mac to pull up a video of Mark eating Pad Thai and this was the video.. When I tell you that food was soooooo good.... and watching Mark just enhanced the flavor of everything!!

I've been to Japan and Thailand. I love both countries, BUT, Thailand by far has the tasty and more creative dishes. Also, Thailand has beautiful lands and sites to feast your eyes on.

The instant noodle stall is spectacular... because the vendor could easily make her own stock and buy fresh noodles. She puts a lot of effort into the stall already. Yet she chooses the packets. It’s the ultimate instant noodle lover’s dream. I think the noodle companies should sponsor her or have her contribute recipes.
