Yeah and when they mention the “engineer”, it showed footage on one ad for me yesterday a different girl than in the clip I just saw in an ad that played before a vid I watched.
Its obvious that they were referring to the “obsolescence code” being what has likely already infected your phone. Sure, the ad and product are scams that likely dont actually run a thethered jailbreak (what would be required to do what it claims), but this video is also scammy by lying and exaggerating as if the ad wasn’t legitimately scammy enough, that they had to lie to make it even worse

My Android phone from 2 and a half years ago still keeps charge fine. And it isn't too slow, but running apps for a while does cause a noticeable slowdown. Plus the battery in this isn't too difficult to replace, I only had to do it once when a broken charging block shorted the battery.
yeah, It gets old seeing people put factually substantiated and entirely reasonable claims on the same shelf as "moon landing fake tho" simply because they don't personally think it happened or it goes against mainstream narrative. Yeah, Ken is a bit of an Apple fanboy, and it's easy to tell when he just brushes planned obsolescence under the rug like it doesn't even exist. There's a reason people say "they don't make em like they used to" -- and this goes for most if not all manufacturers, not just Apple. Mobile phones are one of the worst for it, these companies make money selling you new phones every year, not selling you one phone for you to use for the next 10 years.
That lawsuit joke was pretty good. I will say though, Apple definitely had that one coming due to them not being transparent about throttling the processors to stop iPhones from shutting down unexpectedly. The Apple “Battery Gate” fallacy @7:00 highlights how a big company can get away manipulative tactics without addressing how some of the products reviewed in this series attempt to do similar things.
My favorite part of the ad is when they seemingly quote the apple engineer by showing a video of the apple engineer talking and then voicing over what she apparently said. Because they couldn't get that video interview footage from the stock photo model they used. Also iPhones do not support Qualcomm Quick Charge yet the ad showed footage of it plugged into an iPhone.

I should start making ads stating a roll of generic toilet paper can prevent colon cancer, heart disease, and aging in general while keeping your pets water bowls clean.
You could make your own gravity fed charcoal water filter that uses no electricity at all. The only real limitation is having to replace the charcoal every so often when it gets 'full' of the impurities.
Who is the woman in the new BoltzPro ad? I never saw the old ad, but the new ad really looks legit. The only reason I didn't trust it is because I knew the technology is literally impossible.
I'm one for loving debunking and such, and these videos are cool nuggets. However Apple is such a bad actor when it comes to repairability that I cringe a little when someone tries to position planned obsolescence as a conspiracy theory / tinfoil hat.
I would just never want an Apple phone or computer. I can only imagine the struggle it would be to get my files back from those if they ever break. It is not like it is a hard drive or SD card you can plug into another computer. I could honestly imagine someone mentioning SD card to someone at Apple and getting a completely confused look back like what the hell is an SD card.
Yeah this was the video that showed this guy's true colors of being an Apple cult member. There were hints of it in some of his previous videos, but this one he let it all hang out.
@@therealmistermemer He mentioned that they did get sued over one shady thing... pretty dismissively, to be honest. He also treats batteries dying as pretty clearly a situation of 'oh well, better buy a new phone' being the only reasonable solution, when if it wasn't for phone manufacturers actively fighting against right to repair and adding features that have at times been proven to quite literally destroy your phone rather than allow you to fix something as simple as a dead battery it would be exactly what it was previously: "Welp, battery's getting old, time to buy a new one!" to be clear, for what the channel ACTUALLY IS, a teardown of scam products, it's really good. Just kinda a shame that when something like this that is legitimately a problem in the space comes up that it's treated like this.
My phone supports QuickCharge 3.0, and I think it takes like an hour to charge to 100% from empty (using an Anker QC 3.0 charger). I usually charge it up when I get up in the morning, and when I'm ready to go, the phone lasts all day on its charge :)
Been using anker for a good 5 years now. I have my first charger block still works. And it handles the voltage differences between my phones well enough. Under an hour too charge my A70. Under three hours too charge the A70 and a Samsung s10. I believe it's a 10 anyway, haven't checked not actually mine
@Ghastly Toast Quickcharge is a feature some chargers have and some phones support. This is just a relevant topic to the video. How is that an ad bruh. It's not even promoting a specific brand.
Quick Charge 3 is actually robust enough that always charging on a QC3 charger has no appreciable affect on battery lifespan in real world applications. Realistically speaking, if you avoid over-discharging, and if you aren't a overly-heavy user your phone will likely have another component fail purely due to age before the battery shows any appreciable wear. Over discharging is what kills modern phone batteries, not over-charging
I got scammed out of 75$ once for a fake "go pro" like camera that ended up being a 15$ POS, and they used almost identical sales tactics. Great points mentionned in this clip, fake web presence in the form of articles coupled with clearly ficticious product reviews are the biggest tells I found. Great clip 🙌

"The updates are part of the planned obsolescence, causing your device to act up". This part is absolute truth. EDIT: To clarify, software updates will break your device's functionality when a company wants you to upgrade. This was started by Microsoft, and is now in place with many companies. Windows Millennium worked perfectly fine as long as it was never updates. Same with Vista. Android phones will remain fast as long as updates are disabled. Is your phone slow? Do a factory reset and do not allow internet access until you have shut down updates. It will be fast for years.
@@Bobspineable the hardware doesnt (except battery life) its just the software that gets worse with each update (not just system updates but also app update can effect the entire system)
Awesome content. Some disagree with your message regarding the planned obsolescence conspiracy. This video has made me start thinking about it from a new perspective. Subscribed.
Ken, you need to do a new year's episode where you take all the scam tech you have reviewed over the last year, give a three-minute recap on it, then destroy it all with a hammer.
You’re a national treasure. First rate video and detective work. I bought this thing and they sent me two of them, for $40. I was hoping it would change faster. It does not. And it gets hot. I’m going to try to file a claim with BBB or something to get money back, product is total crap. Thanks for your great review.
A legit claim that would actually improve battery life would be that the charger is super slowly charging your phone overnight at like 2% per 10minutes ( 6*2 = 12% per hour, 8h of sleep *12% per hour = 96%). The last few percentages are being charged at normal speed the last half hour before you set your wake up alarm (or when you start using your phone before that alarm). Something like this would be a lot better and actually work.
The 1Plus phone does that: plug it in at night, and it gives a message explaining that it is charging very slowly to maximize battery life and planned to finish charging by 6AM. I think it automatically adapts based on usage habits, but links to a configuration option.
I'm not sure how many generations back this feature goes, but iPhones from at least the 11 onward have a feature where they'll learn when you normally unplug them from the charger. They'll stop charging at 80%, and then resume charging in time to finish right before you'd normally unplug it. I think it's absurd that you can't set that time manually, but it's a nice feature nonetheless.
I would like to see a video on the new freedom phone, it claims to be a privacy phone made in the USA but as far as we can see, it’s a rebranded Chinese phone. All the software on it can be used on any android phone
I just saw the ad for this product 10 seconds ago and had to look up what people are saying. I was laughing through the whole ad. It was a bold faced lie from start to finish. Who is that guy in the ad? How is he not getting sued?
I thank you for this video. I watched it in detail and also did some investigating of my own. Do you have any recommendation to fight against "Planned Obsolescence"?
i saw the ad for this product before a different video. immediately i backed out and searched this to see what kinda scam it is🤣 i’m so glad i found this channel. Subbed instantly!!!
The first time I saw an ad on this product, I thought “huh, neat” and moved on. Second time I caught that “mobile company legal teams trying to stop this,” I thought if they were, they’re basically admitting that the planned obsolescence IS real, effectively shooting themselves in the foot. So I did some searching and found this video.
I think they updated the ad recently because they no longer show the charger at the start of the video, and they also added a section that claims that the charger contains "advanced AI" that "reprograms your operating system to peak efficiency" or some such similar nonsense.
Thank you for making this video!! I immediately suspected this company, as I do most EVERY PRODUCT RUclips advertises as REVOLUTIONARY, especially when they use the same scheme of "Engineer Leaves Successful Company" or "High School Dropout Engineer's Revolutionary Money-Saving Device". I all but knew this had to be another scam, and what do you know, your video was the very first thing I found after a solid-second of research.... Cheers, Mate!
Ken, the one thing I didn't like about this video was your dismissiveness towards the class action lawsuit against Apple Yes $25 is practically meaningless, but it's about sending a message to Apple and any other tech giant, telling them that they can't get away with non-transparent bs.
It had other advantages beyond that as well in that it forced Apple into actually replacing the faulty batteries for free instead of charging and refunding those unfortunate enough to have paid when their phone was still under warranty. This wasn’t just a normal degradation issue, it was a fault that often occurred well within one year of ownership. I was lucky in that I know batteries and told the store manager that if he would put it in writing that the battery wasn’t bad after he saw the phone immediately power off, then I would pay and promptly sue. Unfortunately many people paid them the full price before this change not knowing better. If Apple didn’t make these changes you can bet the payout would of been a LOT more then $25.
As a flip, could you review top of the line official chargers and products as a one off vid? We bought a new iPad and the charger that came with it seems amazing, so would love to see a cost comparison :D
If you like the performance of that charger I would recommend you buy more of them for your phones and or other devices that are compatible with that charging speed apart from your ipad.
At 2:12 Planned obsolescence conference.... There WAS such a conference!! In the 19 teens....about light bulbs. Group lightbulb manufacturers got together and chose to cooperate in manufacturing their light bulbs more cheaply so that they did not last as long. I should start making ads stating a roll of generic toilet paper can prevent colon cancer, heart disease, and aging in general while keeping your pets water bowls clean.
Oh but TP can do that - only if you buy it from ME for $37.95 which is half off it’s regular price
I’m literally watching this ad right now LOL
You could make your own gravity fed charcoal water filter that uses no electricity at all. The only real limitation is having to replace the charcoal every so often when it gets 'full' of the impurities.
Who is the woman in the new BoltzPro ad? I never saw the old ad, but the new ad really looks legit. The only reason I didn't trust it is because I knew the technology is literally impossible.
I love seeing an ad and going
" oh he's gonna have a field with this"
Crazy Ken, thank you for the work that you do in uncovering all these scams out there.
Didn't they get successfully sued for it a while ago
Edit: just finished the video and this was mentioned lmao spoke too soon
Yeah this was the video that showed this guy's true colors of being an Apple cult member. There were hints of it in some of his previous videos, but this one he let it all hang out.
@@AJSHOPE he did mention it though?
@@therealmistermemer He mentioned that they did get sued over one shady thing... pretty dismissively, to be honest. He also treats batteries dying as pretty clearly a situation of 'oh well, better buy a new phone' being the only reasonable solution, when if it wasn't for phone manufacturers actively fighting against right to repair and adding features that have at times been proven to quite literally destroy your phone rather than allow you to fix something as simple as a dead battery it would be exactly what it was previously: "Welp, battery's getting old, time to buy a new one!"
to be clear, for what the channel ACTUALLY IS, a teardown of scam products, it's really good. Just kinda a shame that when something like this that is legitimately a problem in the space comes up that it's treated like this.
just got this ad again and started doing research. glad i found your channel, i hope more people find these videos
My phone supports QuickCharge 3.0, and I think it takes like an hour to charge to 100% from empty (using an Anker QC 3.0 charger). I usually charge it up when I get up in the morning, and when I'm ready to go, the phone lasts all day on its charge :)
Anker is the way to go
Been using anker for a good 5 years now. I have my first charger block still works.
And it handles the voltage differences between my phones well enough.
Under an hour too charge my A70.
Under three hours too charge the A70 and a Samsung s10.
I believe it's a 10 anyway, haven't checked not actually mine
I recommend using a normal speed charger when you can. Charging the battery faster wears it down faster. 👍
I’ve been getting this ad forever, and I’m glad he is finally addressing this.
_Aha_ Ken, you missed it with the "Epic court battle" - The narrative is trying to say the court battle was epic, not that it was _against_ Epic.
"This is my life now."
I was drinking when that came up. Just recovered from a 2 minute coughing fit from laugh-inhaling my drink.
Thanks, Ken.
No, seriously, thanks for this series - I've shared links to the various scam buster videos of yours to many less-than-savvy family members.
Yes to a point but old hardware is always eventually gonna fall way behind and modern websites are made like shit
@@Bobspineable the hardware doesnt (except battery life) its just the software that gets worse with each update (not just system updates but also app update can effect the entire system)
I literally had an ad for this before this video
@@JohnDlugosz Wouldn't be suprised if 99.99% of people turn that off, and then complain about low battery life.
@@nikkiofthevalley I always turn it off :D I do not charge my phone while sleeping
"Hight-tech technology"
Ah yes
High technology technology
I would like to see a video on the new freedom phone, it claims to be a privacy phone made in the USA but as far as we can see, it’s a rebranded Chinese phone. All the software on it can be used on any android phone
I just saw the ad for this product 10 seconds ago and had to look up what people are saying. I was laughing through the whole ad. It was a bold faced lie from start to finish. Who is that guy in the ad? How is he not getting sued?
That's not even B-Roll. That's Z-Roll. (D-Roll didn't want a hand in that.)
more like S roll, aka S is for shit
Literally got an ad for an identical product on this video
Woah, JARVIS JOHNSON? And SILVER THE HEDGEHOG? This video has everything!
I thank you for this video. I watched it in detail and also did some investigating of my own. Do you have any recommendation to fight against "Planned Obsolescence"?
I remember geting this ad a few days ago when I was watching RUclips.
done watching rerez's duke nukem flopever review and got this
i saw the ad for this product before a different video. immediately i backed out and searched this to see what kinda scam it is🤣 i’m so glad i found this channel. Subbed instantly!!!
Congrats on the 300K Subs Ken!! Another great video!
Thank you : D
Lol. am here because RUclips threw the ad at me and I searched for it hoping to find a video just like this. Great job.
Just for a change of pace Ken. I want to see you review actually WORKING tech products that deserve more love.
What fun would that be? 😆
This ad just popped up as an advertisement...thanks for providing the real truth on the matter. Thumbs up from me!
Love these types of videos, keep them coming.
I love your reviews & sense of humor! THANK YOU for a good laugh & also valuable info !!!
And the woman is different now.
I did not expect Jarvis Johnson to show up in this video!! I love his videos
RUclips quick to censor "fake news" but never censors false advertising.
6:19 yeah umm there’s also a Patreon shirt
“Then they pull this BS back story out of their butt!” I love how he wanted to be zen, but this was just too much for him. 🤣🤣
Ken, the one thing I didn't like about this video was your dismissiveness towards the class action lawsuit against Apple
Yes $25 is practically meaningless, but it's about sending a message to Apple and any other tech giant, telling them that they can't get away with non-transparent bs.
9:02 you should’ve added that little loading sign that comes up for a second when your phone dies
Well it seems like the flaw makes it suddenly shut off instantly like you pulled the plug on a computer or yanked the battery on a PSP.
The monocular thing nearly had me dying, bc i couldn't stop laughing.
You are such a great detective! Thank you for your public service
At 2:12
Planned obsolescence conference....
There WAS such a conference!! In the 19 teens....about light bulbs.
Group lightbulb manufacturers got together and chose to cooperate in manufacturing their light bulbs more cheaply so that they did not last as long. There was charged has brought, and convictions dealt out....but the damage was already done.
If that joker was there at the conference, he's a really old man by now!!!!
I was going to say thank you for helping the boomers avoid these scams, but so much of your content is well beyond boomer protection, I LOVE scam busting, and checking out dodgy products. So thank you, and well done. (Subscribed).
Scammers still selling “Magic Beans!”💁♂️
Good video though you'll never get me to take off my tin foil hat! Nice try, I'm onto you...
Oh my god I remember seeing this ad before.
My only real thought was “I really don’t think this is a necessary product” and. That was it lol.
Can’t believe my intuition was right for the first time in my life. What a plot twist.
2:22 didn’t know Jarvis worked for apple, he really did do his best
That what I'm sayin!
8:52 that actually happened with my old iPhone 6 from years ago, but the battery in it was so cooked i needed to carry a charging battery with me at all times.
When I see the clip of the "apple engineer" and it is of Mayuko's I was like... "Waaaaiiit a sec, Mayuko is Jarvis's Friend cause I know her from him"
And lo and behold. My Mans there 😂
Absolutely hilarious that the scammers used her video
Yeah, it was a fun time digging into this one. 😆
Just saw an ad for this device. It so sad that people actually put that much effort into making scams. Also sad that people fall for them.
I'm calling it now. With how deep he dives into scams, in 5 years we'll see Ken actually wearing a tinfoil hat and when he says "Let's just take our tinfoil hats off." he'll still do the gesture and continue wearing it the entire video. Haha.
A Asia woman advertising Boltz Pro in a RUclips ad brought me here I feel something was fishy about that product
What I want to know is how RUclips gets away with profiting off of these scams...
Thanks for what you do man!!!! I saw the boltz pro ad all full of red flags, starting with "blah blah ex (enter well known company here) blah blah trying to make it illegal" they fos. Im happy someone like you is here to destroy all the BS your doing good work, keep it up pls
I was getting ready to buy one as soon as I saw the commercial .. Then I was blessed with your video
Great episode. Thank you! Just wish you had taken the extra step to disassemble the device and show there are no parts inside other than those related to charging.
Thank me for making this video! I know nothing about this stuff so I’m happy to have saved some money!
I just got a version of the ad that claimed “former apple employees” had banded together to defeat the “planned obsolescence” of our phones.
They specifically said not to update your phone.
Also, they kept showing the same 5 seconds of some Veritasium video.
