  • I finally got a replacement for my faulty iMac Pro from the Genius Bar. I'm still mad.
    Uncut conversation with the Apple Store managers - • Full Apple Store VESA ...
    The Apple Store Genius Bar destroyed my iMac Pro. After I made a huge fuss about it, they finally replaced it. But it sure wasn't easy to get it done and I'm still mad at Apple for their lack of "pro" customer support.

      Legally, the computer was repaired and was unusable after the repair. Replacing it and spending $5k was actually cheaper for Apple than to face charges and be forced to replace stands and screws for the entire product line.
      Edit: consider that Apple was already aware of the first video at this point.

I admitted that I knew some of the drives I had piled up may be out of warranty and that if they can't do it because of that then it was totally okay, and while they made it clear it was a one-time courtesy, they STILL swapped all the drives including the ones that were out of warranty! They didn't have to do that at all, but they did. I was made whole by Asian companies that had no obligation at all to do so with a "smile" in the wording of the messages.

      Apple doesn't care about their Macintosh line of products. They want everyone using iOS because it's the real money maker for them. That's why they haven't added touch to MacOS. That's also why all the decent QC employees work on the iOS devices, and why the quality of the Macs have tanked in the last few years

      Benjamin Haube But even iOS's QC has been pretty terrible for the past 3-4 years. Apple has a relatively small number of device variances to support - it should not be difficult for them to squash bugs. Yet they continually prove that to not be the case.

    I had an macbook pro repaired at Apple store,
    And when I returned for another problem few months later, I've been told that whoever opened the laptop previously
    (they did) caused damage (screws were not in place, and they used electrical tape to "secure parts", tape came undone, causing problems).
    and that the logic board replacement would be $900.
    Manager then told me that I either opened the laptop myself or that I took it to a third party repair place (false and false),
    and that he can't help me.

    Apple continues to stumble and fumble their way in all areas - design, qa, not updating products, poor software planning, lifestyle pricing. Sooner or later, people will walk. How do I know? I'm one of 'em, and between slow processors, poor qa with keyboards, downright silly pricing and poor migration support for us Aperture users, it's clear that Apple prioritizes how to squeeze $1.10 out of a dollar instead of creating quality products.

    • @Donald_Turnip

      Maybe we should just all agree that Apple and their products are shit let alone their ability to service them. Building a computer and soldering half the components on to the motherboard when something could need upgrading or repair is criminally stupid although I've met alot of Apple users and a whole bunch of them weren't exactly kicking the door marked "SMART" down.
      Apple is IN YOUR FACE producing products that have a best before date on them and stupid Apple users suck them up like a female porn star on her first day who wasn't told you don't have to swallow all ten guy's cum because that would be cruel and indecent.
      You use them until they get slow and you throw them out. Or they fail and you throw them out. Upgrades? Right, if you want to pay 4x market price and void warranties if you even EYE a screwdriver next to a Macintrash.
      Sorry, started apple, converted to PC and my life visibly became no only easier but I ended up with a whole lot more money in my pocket for more performance.

    • @zorax15

      I don't think the screws are the problem. These tiny little screws alone are supposed to withstand the shear that is caused by the heavy case and are therefore heavily stressed. A proper design would prevent the screws from being exposed to this stress. That means that the mount has to be either extremely formfitting so that less stress is directed to the screws or you better design the mount in a way that no stress is directed to the screws at all in regards to shear. The design Apple chose is plain garbage.

    Fantastic summation, Quinn. Good on you for attacking the process that led to this, rather than forgetting about it due to getting a replacement.
    As for Apple replacing the machines of the average Joe, I’ve witnessed it time and time again, from iPhones to MacBooks. For me personally I’ve had 3 iPhones, one MacBook 12”, 5 MacBook Pros, 1 iMac, and 1 iMac Pro completely replaced after the return period. For the Macs, the 12” MacBook and one of the MacBook Pros was even replaced with a brand new next-gen model.

    • @snazzy
      @snazzy  6 лет назад +15

      Thanks for watching, Andru! I’d agree that on the whole, Apple support is pretty good. This whole iMac Pro thing though is bizarre. It’s almost like a curse word where everyone gets nervous when you mention it. I think it’s because Apple hasn’t adequately trained anyone. It’s weird.

    • @Andru
      @Andru 6 лет назад +5

      Completely weird. I had an issue with my iMac Pro that was something that any of us would consider to be minor. Enough to complain about due to the price of the machine, but minor enough that it should have been fixable same day (a regular iMac certainly would have been.) They literally did the same thing and swapped it out for a brand new model.
      Surprisingly, I have a 10-core, 2TB, 128GB, with the 16GB graphics card. They don't sell these in the stores, and yet had one there to swap out for me. Very odd to make and sell machines but not have the parts to fix them. Usually that applies that things that are selling so quickly that you are backlogged on deliveries and therefore all parts are going into the production of new machines - but I think it's safe to say that iMac Pros aren't flying off shelves.

    • @Pepperoniman776

      Andru you've now had ELEVEN apple products returned and replaced, yet you still buy their products when so many of their products need replacing? I'm assuming that the iMac Pro is bought for professional workloads, I'm at a loss why you would trust a company with such a bad track record for replacements with what is probably critical tasks.

    • @Andru
      @Andru 6 лет назад +7

      Poopatron Poopatron I had products fail from every company that you can name. Out of the roughly 40 iPhones I’ve purchased, 3 needed to be replaced - and that’s the thing - Apple REPLACED them outside of the warranty period when there was no more coverage. They didn’t charge me for a replacement or a repair. Just took the old and gave me a new.
      No other company - not one of the many that I buy from and deal with - has ever made that so easy. Zero. Hell, I had an issue with a Dell computer recently that is not only in the warranty period, but also within the RETURN period and I can barely get them to respond. Apple? I go to the store, show them what’s wrong, and I’m taken care of each and every time.
      I’ve been buying their products since 2001, and I’ve bought everything they’ve released in that time period - many of them multiple times. I don’t expect perfection from any company - Apple or otherwise. The companies that get my repeat business are the ones that go above and beyond to take care of me when imperfection with their products comes up.

    I'm a trained IT analyst (operations, not dev) and work for a fortune 500. You NEVER want something as cheap as screws to be the fault on a product that no expense has been spared in so many other areas. I'm over the whole Apple/PC debate, I just take each product for what it is good or bad. As a matter of fact, living in a windows android world I actually use a mid 2014 macbook pro. I use it because in my opinion it's the last "good" one they designed. Poor engineering is poor engineering, and for a company that holds vanity in such high regard you'd think they would go through insane testing on any product that's going to have their name on it. It sounds like this didn't happen, and believe me slip up happens for a company that's operating at that scale. However, where Apple fails is humility (see my point about their own vanity). They fail to be humble when they falter, and fail their end users because of their own self placed pedestal. It's unfortunate, and I hope they come back to reality at some point, because they've designed some of the best computing hardware in the world (for end users) in the past and I truly wish, and hope they get back to that soon. Sincerely - An IT guy who's in the biz

Personal attacks on me isn't going to deter me from speaking the truth. The reality is this could have been a perfect storm of events but how they handled it and how they specifically asked him not to post this video....come on. @ImaITman 5 лет назад

      @Ironclaw XII also specifically to your point about my employment. A few years ago I bought a top of the line MacBook Pro to use with architecture software.
    Once I installed everything and started to use it I had a massive runaway RAM issue, where all Ram would be used within 10 mins and then essentially freeze the laptop.
    Took it into Apple store and within a couple of hours they provided me with a brand new replacement Mac. This was because no one could explain the issue of the runaway RAM and it was put down to an internal RAM error.
    Found out a couple of months later via a software update that it was an, at the time, unknown program error that caused that piece of software to consume all RAM.
    Having seen this I realised that Apple had in fact given me a brand new Mac for no reason as the original one was completely fine!
    After finding this out I felt so bad that I went into the Apple store and explained the situation to the same manager that had helped me out with the replacement. He said don’t worry at all, and that the reason you buy with Apple is exactly that reason. They will always help. I have been a Mac owner for over a decade now and have nothing but good words for both the product and the service they provide!

    It’s a good thing you took it back immediately for the the cosmetic damage, if something were to happen later they would pin the damage on you. How do I know, I got my MacBook Pro back from a 2nd keyboard replacement, I have no idea how they caused a hairline crack to the part where it says MacBook Pro, but I didn’t report it, and the keyboard broke again, on the 3rd replacement they took my MacBook Pro for repairs, broke the entire display and then they called be it happened due to the hairline crack, I then had to spend hours and 4 days of going back and forth on the phone on the phone explaining that the display was working perfectly before I dropped off and the hairline crack was caused by them and I didn’t report it because to me personally it’s not worth dropping off my MacBook for a dumb cosmetic issue. Anyway they ended repairing it without charging me.

    Apple is digging their own grave. Between repeated media exposure of their shady planned obsolescence, poor design choices, and draconian control over consumer software options (Apple Store), Apple users are starting to "think different" about what their next computer/phone should be. For the premium Apple products charge for current generation performance, consumers really expect something special in return. Simply getting an Apple logo on your pretty new device isn't cutting it anymore. Apple is falling behind in innovation, their products do not stand out like they once did anymore.

    • @Hot.sausee
      @Hot.sausee 6 лет назад +5

      Paul Sim There were burns around the edges of the LCD. Watched it get worse from barley noticeable to very obvious at times. No damage to chassis. Never opened. Never dropped. The worst part is that my “Senior Apple Care Specialist” told me I had to drive to my Apple store (2 hours away) to have them repair it. I told them on the phone that I repair Apple devices and know that they don’t solder the boards in stores and that they would have to send it out anyway. The specialist told me that it was my only option other than sending it in for 2-3 weeks while they diagnose and ‘attempt’ to repair it. I couldn’t give it up for potentially a month so I drove it in. The first thing they tell me when I get to the store was that I had to call to talk to Apple Care because they couldn’t repair it in the store. 2 hours away from home I almost had an aneurism. Thankfully one of the employees came over and verified that it was manufacture defective. They told me they would order a new one with my engraving and have it shipped to my house with a box to return my defective unit. 3 weeks later I call to see where the new unit is... no notes about my trip to the store, even though I had scheduled an appointment. Now, months after I first noticed the issue and called, I am back at square one. Send it in and in 2-3 weeks they will let me know if they can repair or replace. Absolutely horrible experience with Apple Care. This cost me about 10-15 calls to Apple ranging 45min- 3 hours EACH. 2 trips to the Apple store, 8 hours total and 6 hours of wandering around the mall killing time until they would see me. It’s like the stores and the call center have no communication whatsoever. Neither one knows the policy of the other. Love their products. Hate the customer support.

    • @paulsim7589
      @paulsim7589 6 лет назад

      Ahh you have a custom engraving?, Normaly they have replacment's instore (or in my local stores case, due in stock in two weeks). Offering to send it for repair 2-3 weeks is not the same as refusing the repair, and especialy for a 'custom' case I feel this is reasnoble. My Local store ammusingly has no warrenty replacement iPad Pro's of some specifications for two weeks!! - ha! stock.
      The rest of your customer service support was shit. What did they hope the Apple Store could do diffrently? Where I live (UK), no apple agents replace iPad screens. They are all swapped out. So in the case of an engraved one, they would RTB it and order a replacement. If the unit was to 'bashed' to get replaced, your repair would be refused. And a paid for repair via an apple agent would be the cost of a replacement unit (with a slight discount).
      So yes I can see why your pissed off, it should of been make clear, like it or lump it, you would of known you need to send it for repair (2-3 weeks). All the extra hassle you endured, and 'undocumented' visits all came from that.

    Not sure why anyone chooses to use MacOS now a days. Apple clearly don’t give a fuck about their computer line anymore. I moved away from Apple in 2016 and I’m loving it. State of the art kit in a PC box for a fraction of the price. As web dev I’ve got the exact same workflow I had before. I never thought I’d say it but Windows 10 is actually solid now. Once it’s set up properly with decent apps. What keeps you using it? Final Cut?
    When I look back to when I was using Mac, I was just a snob about it. I would compare inferior sub £1k pcs with my £3k iMac and say they were awful. Truth be told with both OS’ set up properly there’s very little difference when you are actually working, both have pros and cons. Some of Mac OS’ failings I just made excuses for or didn’t fully appreciate that I’d just learnt to work my way around them. Like the Finder being utter bollocks for example. Going back to building my own PC’s to my own perfect spec is totally empowering and very satisfying. Far more so than buying my computers from a company that can’t engineer a VESA mount.

      Sam Wen Jun Dude it's called Adobe Premier or Avid Composer. Hollywood dumped Final Cut years ago when Apple eliminated Final Cut Server and removed the ability to have more than one editor in one project at a time.
      Avid is what the industry uses now and people with stricter budgets use premier or Magix (formally Sony) Vegas

      Apple's whole gimmick is how compatible their products are with their other products, if you have one apple product like the phone and no other apple product then you'll see how annoying their tech is but people who buy all of apple's products love how easily they synchronize with one another. As an Iphone user with a pc I have no intention of getting another Iphone when I'm done with this one but maybe I'd be thinking differently if I had a mac, apple watch, and an apple tv (Products that I currently don't have a need for).
