    Really like a "Google maps" for jazz beginner. I had watched a lot of jazz piano tutorials on youtube, and from now on i just realized i did blind practice. So after watching your video, i know where i want to go to reach "soulfull" jazz point. And also i know each steps i must take, learn and practice about jazz piano. Thankyou. Appreciate it

    Great explanation at how there is no single "jazz piano." I'm coming at this as a classical composer and rock guitarist who wants to get more fluent at piano improv, and this video is really helpful foreshadowing the process of each sub-style instead of me jumping around youtube going from one "how to" vid to another.

    Wow!!! I love jazz and want to play it but, I did not know where to start. You really break it down in a way that makes sooooo much sense and it is so basic! I love it!!!

    Thank you so much. Finally someone has a teaching method that makes sense and WORKS!! As a school teacher I know the importance STRUCTURE and SEQUENCE of INSTRUCTION in the learning process. In education we refer to it as establishing behavioral objectives; i.e. you must know this in order to accomplish that. It really is that simple. As you said "no secrets". Best of all, I like the attitude of "tough love". Sorry, young man or young lady, you need to do your homework, and that' s it.

    I highly recommend Brendan's course. Until I started going through his system I didn't know how much I didn't know. I've still got a loooong way to go but with his systematic approach I've made more progress in a few months than in years of snippet-stealing and unstructured practice

    I think it's also important to note that swing in jazz is primary in triplet feel.

    Having fun is more than half the battle, if you don't enjoy it you might as well stop. I like the way playing makes my fingers feel.

      JazzPianoSchool.com - Learning Freedom (Online Jazz Piano Courses) recommendations for fingerings of chords left/right hand?

    Wouldn't you recommend mastering all closed voicings, or most of them, before spreading them?

    • @jazzpianoschool
      @jazzpianoschool  Год назад +1

      Thanks for the question - everybody learns differently, some can spread them first, some process it better by learning them closed first. Whatever works for you!

    This is a great video I really needed, but a lot of it was kind of repetitive and some of it was unneeded, just my opinion though. If you could make a summary at the end of your videos it’d make it more clear I believe. Thanks for this video though I’m in that exact situation where I’ve been learning sheet music but not really learning anything about the fundamentals.

    I saw that you do some crazy reaches when you are playing! how important is having long fingers in regards to voicings?

    • @jazzpianoschool
      @jazzpianoschool  6 лет назад +2

      @Nathaniel: great question! It's definitely helpful, especially when playing fuller voicings where you play a 10th in the left hand; but it's doable without!
